I would like to congratulate a few of my fellow Mechanics on their awesome accomplishment:  They won Gold at the 2007 PAMA Aviation Maintenance Olympics. This was the third year that Southwest Airlines had participated, and the Team won Bronze the two previous years. whole-team.jpg The Team Members were Kyle Acuna, Scott McNabb, and Nick Ostalecki, and the coaches were Dennis Pelletier and Tom Zollars. This year, in the final round of competion, they came up against the defending champs of the past three years, MidCoast Aviation, an FBO (Fixed Base Operator) out of St. Louis, and the Southwest Mechanics beat them by 49 seconds. The competition involves seven categories:  Data Research, Systems Troubleshooting, Hardware Identification, Safety Wiring, Hydraulic Tube Fabrication, Flight Control Rigging, and Building an Operational Avionics Circuit Board. The Southwest Airlines PAMA Olympic team will look forward to defending the Gold next year at the Aviation Expo in Dallas, Texas. Congratulations again guys...  4-w_trophy_7099.jpg

Congratulations! Although I have to say that I'm not entirely surprised! If you're despatching your aircraft on time day after day, committing yourself to troubleshooting problems there and then to keep your customers flying, you are exercising the correct skills! And Southwest has mechanics who care and are passionate about what they do! A good job well done, and some public recognition well earned :o)

The gold medal is even more impressive when you click the link and learn that PAMA = Professional Aviation Maintenance Association. I guess it's no surprise that Sothwest mechanics are the best in the industry, it follows right along with every SWA division or department being the best they can be - which makes them the de-facto best in the industry. Congratulations to a group the traveling public rarely, if ever, meets.

WOW!! Just think how fast these guys could change four tires, fill 'er full of fuel, add a round of wedge, and make a trackbar adjustment.... :-) Seriously though, GREAT work gentlemen! Just another reason SWA is the best in the business!
