Southwest strives to help the communities we serve not only through our legendary Customer Service and low fares, but by giving from our hearts. Metrocrest Services is a nonprofit organization in the Dallas Metroplex that assists families, individuals, and senior adults who are coping with crisis situations, need help stabilizing their lives, or who require support to live independently. Chartiable1 Our Internal Customer Care Team, along with Employees from the Executive Office, has volunteered time with Metrocrest Services each quarter for the past several years, and it’s a tradition we look forward to.  After a morning of volunteering at their food bank by sorting, lifting, and organizing donations, we’re tired—but it’s “good tired.” It’s also heartwarming to interact with the clients Metrocrest Services assists by helping them “shop” for groceries and other necessities. Chartiable3 Nicole Newkham, Senior Director of Development and Special Programs at Metrocrest Services, says, “We serve more than 13,000 of our neighbors each year, and support from organizations such as Southwest Airlines is essential to sustaining our programs. Southwest’s continued involvement shows a true dedication and commitment to the community.” Chartiable2 Organizations such as Metrocrest see a spike in volunteer efforts around the holidays, but yearround efforts are essential to helping those in need get back on their feet. Encourage your Team or a group of your Cohearts to get together on a routine basis to help an organization in your community!  Be sure to log your volunteer hours on SWALife, so your participating nonprofit organization can benefit from the Tickets for Time program.  For every 40 hours of volunteer time our Employees (one or a Team of many) contribute to a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or school and register in our database, that organization is eligible to receive one free round trip ticket—up to six tickets per calendar year.  Last year, the Tickets for Time program generated 2,171 round trip tickets (with a value of $868,400) for charitable organizations nationwide thanks to our Employee Volunteers! Chartiable5 Giving from the Heart is a part of our DNA at Southwest Airlines. Your efforts lift others up and also lift your own spirits!
