Does Southwest try to send bags checked less than 45 minutes before scheduled departure on the very next available flight? Thanks.
SJC to SNA, A bag was checked-in this morning with 45 mins from departure. On instruction from staff, it was left at the late baggage area.

Southwest tries to get the bag on your original flight, but warns you that might not happen due to that late bag check.
If it misses that flight, SW tries to get it on the next flight.

It depends on the current load at the airport but the luggage would often still make it, but with a pretty pink tag on it saying "Late Check" but you can imagine the larger and busier an airport is the less likely it would be to make it the closer you get.
At Midway 45 minutes is still pretty good to make it for instance.
