I booked a ticket for myself, my mom, and added my girlfriend as my companion with the companion pass. My girlfriend and mom have early bird check-in for our flight, but I do not. Will I be moved up to their boarding position or will my girlfriend be moved down to mine, making her early bird check-in useless?

The system ties the companion and the companion pass holder together. So you will receive consecutive boarding positons based the the best the companion or pass holder have - makes no difference which one it is.

Thanks for the reply! Just making sure I understand-so my mom, girlfriend, and I should all have consecutive boarding positions even though I (companion pass holder) do not have early bird check-in but the other two people do?

Reposting as a reply because I don't think I did it correctly the first time.

I JUST got off the phone with Southwest and the agent told me that this is absolutely not correct.
Only if you have A-List will your companion be assigned a sequential boarding number.
This applies to both Early Bird and regular check-in.
There are a number of posts containing contradicting information. I recommend calling SWA directly.

Have to check with the OP if it worked or not - the description of sequential boarding is that it would work with any of the methods.

Hi - I have a companion tied to my account. Booked us round trip flights, just checked to make sure I was good for early bird checkin - its been hours since checkin has started for my flight tomorrow. I am A23 and went to check in my partner who is listed as my companion pass person and he was already checkin/reserved under A24.
I only paid for EB checkin for me. This has happened a few times now actually. So, hopefully this helps.

The boarding position is not guaranteed next to yours. I've been waiting on this for the last 36 hours with my latest companion pass. I had early bird check-in and the SW terms per the representative said I didn't have to buy the early bird check-in for my companion that it would automatically apply to my companion and it didn't. So since my companion is my 11 year old daughter, I have wasted my $25 for my early bird check-in and will have to board later with her in the boarding group SW assigned to her. I bought her the early bird check-in for the return flight now that I know.
