Can my 17 year old get a gate pass to walk my 14 year old through security?
Thanks.

In theory, yes. Just stop by the check-in counter and request one. My only hesitation is that the accompanying person is also a young traveler, as Southwest defines youth in the 12-17 year old bracket, but I suspect Southwest agents would understand and give out the pass without any problems or questions.

I had no idea that this was even possible? So are you stating that someone could request a gate pass, which gets them through security (TSA) and are able to accompany them to the gate?

Yes, travelers that need assistance getting to the gate can request an escort pass for someone to accompany them to the gate.

Well, it would be rare for me not to eat at one of the restaurants as well while I'm in there. 😂
I've done this several times. The intention is if someone needs help getting to or from the gate you can go through security to help them, elderly parents for example, or young travelers, assist with kiddos while my wife was flying with them separately from me. That last one was probably more of a judgement call and being a regular at ORD might have helped.

Yes, I get a gate pass all the time when my children are traveling alone. I was just unsure if the person accompanying the traveler has to be 18.

Apparently they do this now at PIT and a few other airports. I forget the other one that I saw taking the more liberal stance on passes.

Will Southwest issue a Gate Pass to the parent looking to go through security and pick up their 4 y.o. child at the gate through which the other parent just flew in from?
