CP earned with 125k points in 2023 only valid until 12/31/2023

I've earned 125k in points in 2023 from new card bonus when spending threshold was hit on jan 2, 2023 (card statement date jan 12, 2023) and other sw hotel stays that were both booked and completed after jan 6, 2023.  Have been waiting for the cardmember bonus of 10k said to to hit by Feb 1, to achieve the required 135k for a companion pass valid until 12/31/2024. Today I logged into my account to see that I have earned the companion pass with 125k points only through 12/31/2023, yet it also shows I've almost earned my NEXT companion pass. Kinda confused. I really had planned on most of my use in 2024 but wanted to have it in 2023 for a couple small trips. Hesitant to accept and set up the companion pass now and miss out on 2024. To be clear, this is my first ever companion pass. Any insight would be welcome.

No harm in adding the companion and using it now, then once you get the 10k you are expecting by Feb 1 it should finalize and be valid until 12/31/24.  There's not really an "accept" option so I don't see any reason to be hesitant.  In Southwest's eyes it's awarded, that's the end of the story.  Why it's valid now is not clear and without looking at other details such as point activity it would be hard to even guess why it's there.

Thanks so much for the input.

Perhaps SW has given extra time in 2023 for those trying to qualify with 125k points during 2022. And since I got all 125k in January 2023 I was awarded the 2023 CP, while still able to qualify for the next year with the finalized 10k.

Mystery solved.

SW DID extend the time that people could qualify for 2022 CP.  It was extended to 1/31/23.

So what apparently happened is you qualified for 2022 CP which would be good in 2022 and 2023 -- but not 2024.

Since you got the points in 2023 you also are up for 2023 CP - which would be good in 2023 and 2024.

Same thing just happened for me. It showed I earned the Companion Pass yesterday (Jan 24, 2023) but shows that it expires Dec 31, 2023. I'm about 3k points short of the newly required 135k needed for Companion Pass. I emailed Southwest about all of this and am waiting on a response from them. Looks like it will be the exact same thing you just posted about them extending the 125k required to the end of this month (Jan 31, 2023). Once I get the bonus 10k boost for my two open Rapid Reward Credit Cards I'll have the 135k required points. Thanks for posting your update!
