I received a start date of May 2nd. I know I have plans in June that I cannot miss. Do I let a trainer know when I go in on my first day?

I would email your recruiter or onboarding contact. I feel like time off while on OJT would be a tough thing to come by. Good luck to you and update us on any options they may give you. This question comes up often enough.

Could you request a later start date?

You should be able to request a later start date. I did that when they called me and they pushed my start back

I had requested a later start date as my family had planned a surprise trip for my graduation. My recruiter was very accommodating.

I requested a later start date and it was denied. 😭 Hopefully they will work with you.
