The first new international airport in the United States in more than decade is set to open in May near Panama City, Fla., a community of 37,000 people on the state’s panhandle. That is no small feat given the environmental, regulatory and financial hurdles involved in building runways and terminals, as well as community opposition to planes flying overhead.

Can hardly wait for Panama City. For years we've been flying Southwest into New Orleans (and occasionally Tampa) and driving six hours to visit family in the Florida Panhandle. While we really love New Orleans and always made sure we stayed a few days there before flying back home, with Panama City opening,Southwest just cut our drive time to an hour and a half. Thanks, Southwest.

This is, in some ways reminiscent of the Houston Cruise Ship terminal, also a boondoggle, but it only cost $81 million.

When is Southwest going to fly into the Greater Cincinnati/Northern KY airport. We've been waiting for you for a long time ?
