More for Hawaii! Southwest Extends Schedule into the New Year

Today, we release our first schedule of a new decade. Even though we don’t have personal helicopters, colonies on Mars, or a Texas Rangers World Series title yet (all predicted to happen by the year 2020 by various sources), we do have our January 2020 schedule release selling through March 6, 2020.

This schedule release bridges the gap between two very popular schedules; our November holiday schedule and our March Spring Break schedule and we have some exciting new routes for sale.

We’re now offering service to more of our 50th state; Hilo and Lihue, Hawaii.
Hilo service will be to Honolulu, while Lihue service will be to Honolulu, Oakland, and San Jose.

If you’re into hiking, the Na Pali Coastline offers stunning views and scenery only accessible by trail. Waimea Canyon (also known as ‘The Grand Canyon of the Pacific’) is the largest canyon in the Pacific at 10 miles long and 3,500 feet deep. If hitting the beach is more your thing, Kauai certainly doesn’t disappoint with its variety of beaches. From calm waters with great snorkeling to larger waves good for bodyboarding and surfing, there’s something for everyone. Finally, the center of the island is known as one of the wettest spots on earth. Mount Waialeale receives an average of 450 inches a year and keeps the island green year round.

We’re also starting service to Hilo, Hawaii. Hilo is located on the ‘the Big Island’ which is home to the only place in the United States where you could possibly see a live lava flow at the Kalapana Lava Viewing Area. Manua Loa, which is one of the sources of the lava, is the largest volcano in the world. Its sister peak Mauna Kea has been known to get snow, meaning you really can ski and surf on the same day.

We will also be opening a new Hawaiian gateway when we start daily service between Sacramento, CA and Honolulu.

Here’s a list of all our Hawaiian additions (all starting on January 19):

  • Honolulu to Hilo
  • Honolulu to Lihue
  • Honolulu to Sacramento
  • Kona to Oakland
  • Kona to Kahului
  • Kona to San Jose
  • Lihue to Oakland
  • Lihue to San Jose

Not wanting to feel left out, we also have some additions to our contiguous 48 network. We will be starting service between Houston and Little Rock (except Sunday), which we last operated in 2014.

We also will begin seasonal Saturday only service from Cleveland to Fort Lauderdale, Rochester to Fort Lauderdale, Louisville to Fort Lauderdale as well as Cincinnati to both Tampa and Fort Lauderdale.
