From coastal dunes to Cascade peaks there are plenty of reasons People love Oregon. This summer Southwest will be giving Customers another reason to LUV the Beaver State: On Aug. 29, 2021, Southwest will launch Eugene, Ore. (EUG) service with daily flights to Las Vegas (LAS) and twice-daily flights to Oakland (OAK). Southwest’s Eugene service will connect Willamette Valley Customers with destinations across the network, while bringing the ‘Southwest Effect’ to Oregon’s second-busiest airport.

Eugene, affectionately known as “Track Town USA,” is the birthplace of Nike and a frequent host of national track & field events like the US Olympic Trials. If you’re planning a trip, don’t forget to check the event schedule at the University of Oregon’s newly renovated Hayward Field, one of America’s most inspiring track & field venues! After a full day of running, Eugene offers plenty of ways to unwind: Relax at one of the Willamette Valley’s 500 wineries or keep the excitement going with a whitewater rafting trip down the McKenzie River.

Southwest’s new Eugene service will also serve as a convenient gateway for Customers visiting destinations across southern Oregon:

  • Around 7,700 years ago the Mount Mazama volcano erupted and collapsed, creating the caldera that would eventually become Crater Lake. If you want to take a dip in America’s deepest lake, grab your hiking boots and head for the Cleetwood Cove Trail which leads down to the shore—careful, the waters cold! Crater Lake National Park is just over two hours from Eugene by car.

  • The Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway starts around 90 minutes from Eugene. During the summer when the road is open (June through October) you can enjoy breathtaking views as you wind between craggy mountain peaks and peaceful alpine lakes. Bring a paddleboard and a picnic or challenge yourself to hike a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail.
