Length: 16:03 This episode is about the fall 2008 LUV Classic on Friday, October 10. I interview Barbara McDermott, executive director of the Dallas Ronald McDonald House and Lori Skinner an event specialist currently working on the LUV classic golf tournament. Over the years, Southwest Airlines, through the LUV Classic, has donated more than $9.5 million to multiple Ronald McDonald Houses and this year we expect to top the $10 million mark!

I was fortunate enough to attend this year's venue where a few of my colleague handed out golf gifts for women during the rounds of play. Great charity and lively event.

Great Post! I just recently got my foot "in the door" and my first day will be spent in Baltimore on October 17th!!! I think the key to getting hired here is being yourself. I think everyone tries to be someone they are not when they go for job interviews. If your a goofy and fun loving person, don't change it, especially for this company. I told them at my interview I'm known for dancing Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" at my current employer's Christmas party and I think that was one of the reasons I believe I was called back. I honestly can't wait to see whats in store working for Southwest, because I know Southwest will give me the freedom to have fun and be productive at the same time.

Congratulations Hannah! Hearing the stories of Heide's Space Camp scholarship winners is a delight and joy to our family. It is a little like hearing Heide's laughter again. Heide used to say "I work for the best airline on earth!" We LUV our extended Southwest family! Keep chasing dreams. The sky is no limit! 😉

Hi, re willy-willys,
Came across this site accidentally but I can clear up a common misconception that Europeans or Americans have about the above. A willy-willy in Australia is simply a dust devil, ie a small dusty whirlwind created in hot desert climates. Hurricanes are called cyclones in Australia and typhoons around Asia.
Hope this helps, Regards

That's to say: the history of Southwest, via podcasting, not the history of podcasting. This episode of Red Belly Radio is about the history of this great company—I talk about a few of my favorite events that happened during late August through September since we first started service. Learn about our fleet of electric ground equipment, the automated “Quickie Ticket” machine (pictured right), and that important fourth aircraft. Go behind the scenes to discover the trick a director had to use to keep Herb from catching pneumonia and when we became a true coast-to-coast carrier. How many aircraft did we have in 1976? Yep, it’s in there. How many Shamus does SeaWorld have? No idea, but this podcast will tell you how many Shamu aircraft Southwest Airlines has in our fleet. This and much more. The Red Belly Radio link can be found at the bottom right of the home page or from the drop-down menu, choose Media Center. Better yet, subscribe in iTunes and never worry about getting a new episode again! Right: Schedule from February 11, 1975. Prices range from $15 - $40 across our four cities. It was the size of a business card. (both sides are shown)

Hi!
Hello to all WN folks. Congrats on running a great airline! I have one question and would very much appreciate some info.
As a WN employee what kind of discounts are made available to travel to S. America, Mexico, and Europe?
Can one expect ZED/ID90'S/ID75's or what type of discounts?
I am hoping to get hired maybe this year, but I am curious how expensive it would get if I plan on traveling every now and then to say Mexico City, Bogota, etc.?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and take care.
Alex

Yea! Southwest. Always my favorite....now more so. Just received a great voucher for my last trip to Tulsa. A disruptive passenger with bizarre behaviour annoyed some passengers (not me) so all of us got the vouchers. What other airline would do that? Thanks again, Southwest.

Is there a way of getting to a list of tail numbers that have winglets (I following
the addition of winglets to the 300s) and the completion of the Canyon Blue
repainting project (which tail numbers are still carrying the Classic color?), I
saw a couple N77*SW's come in to SMF in the older paint color today. Thanks.

There is an old joke around Southwest that goes something like: How many Southwest Employees does it take to change a light bulb? Three. One to change the bulb and two to design the T-shirt commemorating the event. OK it’s not a great joke, but we do like our T-shirts at Southwest, and there does seem to be a new one for every major event. This episode of Red Belly Radio was recorded at an event to celebrate the career of Colleen Barrett—where a bunch of us all got T-shirts. I encourage you to listen to this recap of the event to celebrate Colleen Barrett's 37 years of service. Don't forget to read the blog post “For Whom the Cowbells Toll” not only because my boss wrote it, but because it tells the full story of how this event came about. In a nutshell, as a tribute to CCB (as she is known in memo-land) we are all ringing bells. Not pretty angelic bells—cowbells! (pictured on left) I also share why I love Colleen and my personal observation of American pop culture and fashion trends. You’ll love how I tie together airline industry history with Reeboks. The history part is our five-consecutive-year Triple Crown award. (pictured right)
