That guidance not only violates Southwest's legal and contractual rights but would also reduce competition, costing consumers millions of dollars in higher airfares.
Delta's temporary license to use gate space at Dallas Love Field expires at midnight on July 6, 2015. Beginning August 9, Southwest will fully utilize its 18 Love Field gates by operating 180 flights a day to 50 nonstop destinations resulting in an industry-leading gate utilization of ten flights a day per gate. Southwest will therefore be unable to accommodate any other airline, including Delta, on its gates after that date. Tickets on these Southwest flights have been for sale to our Customers since February or earlier.
The lawsuit filed by the City of Dallas allows the City and Southwest to ask the court to properly interpret applicable law as well as the contractual agreements entered into by the City and Southwest relating to Love Field, which clearly give Southwest the right to expand upon and maximize the usage of its leased gates in the best interest of the citizens of Dallas. Every other air carrier serving North Texas, including Delta, can grow without restriction at DFW Intl. Airport, which Delta currently serves. Southwest is restricted from growing beyond its 18 Love Field gates, which is a small fraction of the total 185 gates in the Dallas Ft. Worth market.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) announced today that the Company flew 10.2 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in May 2015, an 8.5 percent increase from the 9.4 billion RPMs flown in May 2014. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 7.6 percent to 12.1 billion in May 2015, compared with the May 2014 level of 11.2 billion. The May 2015 load factor was a record 84.4 percent, compared with 83.7 percent in May 2014. For May 2015, passenger revenue per ASM (PRASM) is estimated to have decreased approximately 6.0 percent, compared with May 2014.
Gary C. Kelly, Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "Solid traffic and revenue trends continued in May, and we remain on track to produce record second quarter profits, excluding special items. We continue to be pleased with the performance of our markets under development, which represents approximately twenty percent of our network. Dallas Love Field, in particular, continues to exceed our expectations, including the additional markets added in April 2015. Considering recent weakness in close-in revenue passenger yields, an estimated two to three point impact from our year-over-year growth in stage length and seat gauge, and difficult comparisons to last year's strong second quarter performance, we currently estimate our second quarter 2015 PRASM will decline in the four to five percent range, compared with second quarter 2014. We have taken steps this week to begin pulling down our second half 2015 ASMs to manage our 2015 capacity growth, year-over-year, to approximately seven percent. With weaker than expected economic growth, we continue to evaluate our 2016 capacity plans with a current intent to cap our ASM growth to approximately six percent, year-over-year."
For the first five months of 2015, the Company flew 46.0 billion RPMs, compared with 42.7 billion RPMs flown for the same period in 2014, an increase of 7.7 percent. Year-to-date ASMs increased 6.5 percent to a level of 56.3 billion, compared with the 52.9 billion for the same period in 2014. The year-to-date load factor was 81.6 percent, compared with 80.7 percent for the same period in 2014.

Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) announced today that its Meteorologists, represented by the Transport Workers Union (TWU 550), have approved their first-ever collective bargaining agreement following certification by the National Mediation Board late last year. The Company praised the efforts of the negotiating teams at a signing ceremony on Monday (June 1) and said that the inaugural agreement will provide adjusted wage-scale step increases and opportunities for individual and Company performance-based bonuses.
"I am very pleased the negotiation committees worked together to complete an agreement in such a timely manner," said Vice President Network Operations Control Matt Hafner. "This initial contract, with its benefits and protections, demonstrates the value this Team brings to Southwest and supports a Company priority to provide our Employees a stable work environment."
TWU 550 President Mike Connor said the agreement enhances collaboration between flight planning groups. "Our Meteorologists will be able to directly and proactively interact with Dispatchers. We see this opening communication channels that will benefit our Customers, our Company, and our operations, especially as we expand our International service."
Similar to agreements the Company recently reached with its Customer Service Agents and Customer Representatives, Flight Simulator Technicians, and Dispatchers, the new Meteorologist agreement aligns with the Company's mission of providing its Employees a rewarding and stable work environment, while supporting the airline's Vision of being the World's Most Loved, Most Flown, and Most Profitable Airline.
The new, four-year contract becomes amendable on June 1, 2019.

Airline donated travel for special Honor Flight in commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of V.E. Day and participates in the #GoSilent social media campaign in honor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice Southwest Airlines® (NYSE: LUV) proudly sponsors Honor Flight Network and donated more than $20,000 in air travel for nearly 50 Lone Eagle Veterans and their guardians to participate in a special Honor Flight and V.E. Day 70th Anniversary commemoration event in Washington, D.C. The event in early May included a massive flyover of WWII aircraft and a ceremony at the WWII Memorial, during which Southwest provided refreshments and snacks to Veterans in attendance. The Veterans also spent the day visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Air Force Memorial, as well as the Arlington National Cemetery for the Changing of the Guard.
"Memorial Day is a day for us all to take time to remember our fallen soldiers and pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives while protecting our freedom," said Linda Rutherford, Vice President Communication and Outreach for Southwest Airlines. "The 70 th anniversary of V.E. Day celebration was an opportunity for all of us at Southwest Airlines to recognize the selfless service of our WWII Veterans to our country. Through our national partnership with Honor Flight Network, we feel fortunate to provide travel to so many men and women who bravely served our country and connect them with the memorials that honor their fellow soldiers who lost their lives in battle."
Southwest has been a longtime supporter of Honor Flight Network, donating more than $3 million in travel to chapters across the United States since 2009 to support its mission to provide Veterans with honor and closure by organizing trips to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials built to recognize their service to the nation. This special donation helps Lone Eagles, Veterans who do not have a local chapter to assist them in visiting the memorials.
"The Honor Flight Network is humbly appreciative of the partnership that has been forged with Southwest Airlines since 2009. For our nation's Veterans from the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Wars and terminally-ill Veterans alike, the opportunity given by Southwest Airlines is life-changing," said Jim McLaughlin, Chairman of Honor Flight Network.
Southwest also pays tribute this Memorial Day to those who have lost their lives while serving in the armed forces by joining Community Partner, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), in their #GoSilent social media campaign, which asks every American to pledge to stop what they're doing at 12:01pm EDT, and join them for a national moment of silence to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Southwest will participate by pledging a moment of silence on social media and encouraging others to do the same. #GoSilent will coincide with IAVA laying a wreath before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, a ceremony on the USS Intrepid in New York City, and participating Memorial Day events across the country.
Southwest is dedicated to those who have served and are serving in the military and is committed to employing, supporting, and honoring those who have sacrificed to ensure the nation's freedom.

On the heels of the airline's Annual Meeting of Shareholders and announcement of expanded international service, Southwest Airlines® (NYSE: LUV) released its sixth annual, award-winning integrated report, found at southwestonereport.com. Southwest Airlines Chairman, President, and CEO Gary Kelly shared his thoughts on the 2014 One Report and the carrier's successful year on his LinkedIn Influencer page. To view a video of Gary introducing the Report, click here.
Kelly said, "I am immensely proud to say that 2014 will go down as one of the most monumental years in Southwest's history, chock-full of major milestones and historic events—a banner year that we started planning for in 2010 when we laid out our five-year strategic plan. In short, 2014 was epic!
"It marks the end of one era and the dawn of another as the restrictions of the Wright Amendment were lifted*, allowing us to offer additional nonstop service from our home in Dallas. Of equal significance, we spread our wings into international territory and expanded our presence in markets that were once inaccessible to us, like New York City and Washington, D.C.
"We continued our commitment to efficient operations by signing an agreement to purchase low-carbon renewable jet fuel and remained on track with our fleet modernization efforts. I suppose it is only fitting that 2014 culminated with the completion of the AirTran Airways integration, which has been arguably the biggest project in our Company's history.
"In celebration of all these exciting changes, we introduced a bold, new look with a new livery and logo. The new look is centered around a heart, which serves as our foundation and symbolizes our commitment to remain true to our Core Values and low-fare philosophy as we seek to spread our Hospitality and Reliability to the rest of the world, because without a Heart, it's just a machine. We accomplished all of this and more in 2014 while returning significant value to our Shareholders, surpassing our financial target of at least 15 percent pre-tax return on invested capital, excluding special items (ROIC); maintaining a job-secure environment for our People; spreading our Hospitality to our communities; and achieving our 42nd consecutive year of profitability—a record that is unmatched in the U.S. airline industry. Further, our common stock (LUV) was the top performer of the S&P 500. Indeed, 2014 was proof positive of our ongoing commitment to the triple bottom line."
The carrier's triple bottom line approach takes into account Southwest's Performance and productivity, the importance of its People and the communities it serves, and its commitment to efficiency and the Planet. The 2014 One Report also features the major headlines of the year, including the launch of international service, the repeal of the Wright Amendment, the integration of AirTran Airways, the airline's innovative LUVSeat upcycling Program, and the opening of a brand new LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver-certified Training and Operational Support facility in Dallas.

Declares 155th Consecutive Quarterly Dividend This release contains: 1 Related Document Increases Quarterly Dividend
Authorizes New Share Repurchase Program
Continues Fleet Modernization
Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) (the "Company") announces the Southwest Airlines Board of Directors, at its meeting held today, increased the Company's quarterly dividend by 25 percent and authorized a new $1.5 billion share repurchase program. Under the new $1.5 billion share repurchase authorization, the Company intends to repurchase an initial $300 million of Southwest common stock under an accelerated share repurchase program. The quarterly dividend will increase to $.075 per share from $.06 per share, beginning with the 155th consecutive quarterly dividend declared today to Shareholders of record at the close of business on June 3, 2015 on all shares then issued and outstanding. The dividend will be paid on June 24, 2015. Annualized, this increased dividend amounts to approximately $200 million based on approximately 667 million1 shares of common stock outstanding.
Gary C. Kelly, Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO, stated: "Dedicated to returning value to our Shareholders, we returned substantially all of our free cash flow2 to Shareholders in 2014 through $1.1 billion in share repurchases and dividend payments. In recognition of our strong financial position, performance, and cash flow outlook, the Board's actions today further reinforce our commitment to create value for our Shareholders. The Board increased our quarterly dividend payment by 25 percent and authorized a new $1.5 billion share repurchase program, representing the largest single authorization in our long-standing history of share repurchase programs.
"Our balance sheet and liquidity remain strong with cash and short-term investments of approximately $3.2 billion1, and a fully available unsecured revolving credit line of $1 billion. We remain the only investment grade U.S. airline by all three credit agencies. Our debt levels are modest, and we continue to prudently manage our invested capital.
"Our future is bright at Southwest Airlines, with 50 destinations we could potentially add to our route map over time. Our 2015 fleet and capacity plans remain unchanged with available seat mile (ASM) growth of approximately seven percent, year-over-year, and roughly 700 aircraft projected by year-end. As an extension of our fleet modernization initiatives, we have designated our 31 Boeing firm orders in 2016 as 737-800s rather than 737-700s, which will bring our -800 fleet to 135 by the end of 2016. We are planning to grow our total fleet by two percent in 2016, year-over-year. With a significant number of planned retirements, we expect 2016 net aircraft additions to bring our fleet to roughly 715 aircraft by the end of 2016. We currently estimate year-over-year ASM growth of six to seven percent in 2016. Approximately five percent of this year-over-year growth represents the full year effect of 2015's expansion. We are delighted with the results of our 2015 expansion efforts, and we remain focused on deploying our capital with a balanced and disciplined approach to produce strong returns to our Shareholders."
For 2015, the Company has 19 Boeing 737-800 firm orders, and currently intends to take delivery of 19 pre-owned 737-700 aircraft, including two additional pre-owned 737-700s the Company has recently agreed to purchase. For 2016, the Company has 31 Boeing 737-800 firm orders, and currently intends to take delivery of four pre-owned 737-700 aircraft.
Based on these fleet plans, the Company's firm aircraft capital commitments for 2015 are estimated to be approximately $1.1 billion and in the $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion range for 2016. The Company estimates total capital expenditures in 2015 will be approximately $1.8 billion, excluding assets constructed for others, net of reimbursements, estimated to be in the $50 million to $100 million range.
The Company recently completed its previous total $1 billion share repurchase authorization, including $380 million repurchased this year through $300 million under an accelerated share repurchase program launched in February 2015, and $80 million repurchased on the open market. Under the total $1 billion share repurchase authorization, the Company repurchased approximately 28 million shares. The Company's share repurchases under the new $1.5 billion repurchase program will be made in accordance with applicable securities laws in open market, private, or accelerated repurchase transactions from time to time, depending on market conditions, but may be discontinued at any time.
1 As of May 11, 2015.
2 Free cash flow is a non-GAAP financial measure. The Company believes free cash flow is a meaningful measure because it demonstrates the Company's ability to service its debt, pay dividends and make investments to enhance Shareholder value. Although free cash flow is commonly used as a measure of liquidity, definitions of free cash flow may differ. The Company calculates free cash flow as operating cash flows less capital expenditures less assets constructed for others plus reimbursements for assets constructed for others.

Southwest Airlines and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) 550, representing the carrier's 250 Flight Dispatchers, announce they have come to terms on a new four-year contract extension. News of the tentative agreement comes on the heels of a deal with the Company's Customer Service Agents and Customer Representatives last December and only days after its Flight Simulator Technicians ratified their new four-year contract. The agreement with Dispatchers amends the group's current contract and provides adjusted wage-scale increases, as well as continued opportunities for bonuses that are tied to individual and Company performances.
"I am extremely proud of both negotiation teams and their commitment to find an agreement that adequately rewards our hardworking Employees and supports Southwest's long-term success," said Matt Hafner, Southwest Airlines Vice President Network Operations Control which includes the Company's Dispatchers. "I applaud all parties for the time and effort they dedicated to this important task."
TWU 550 President Mike Connor said, "I am pleased that the Company, once again, has recognized the contribution our Dispatchers make each day. Having this extension done prior to our amendable date allows our Dispatchers to remain focused on the task of ensuring Southwest Airlines passengers and aircraft move safely and efficiently. As Dispatchers and Employees of Southwest, we are invested in and enthusiastic about the future of our Company."
FAA-licensed Dispatchers are directly responsible for the conduct of safe and efficient flight operations and the dispatch, clearance, and movement of all Company aircraft.
