I actually work at an airport near SW, so I talked to the station manager for SW about these 2 exact questions, amongst other things, and he said they usually post the opening for around 1 week, and then up to 2 weeks after for SW to get back to the applicants, so you should hear something within 2-3 weeks of applying. As for a number to call, he said it goes through their peoples department, which i assume is HR and they weed out applications before doing 1 on 1 calls, and that there isnt a specific number to call to get an update because by the time the station manager gets the application, it is so that you can do the interview. Trust me, I am doing everything in my power to get my application to the top of the stack also. In fact, I posted this question here also 2 days ago with no response yet that I know of 😕 Its frustrating how businesses do hiring these days, but its all so automated that its mostly luck for the first half of the hiring phase. THough I will say that southwest is the best about it so far as they have no annoying steps compared to the other airlines.

Did somebody tell you that you should see an opening listed? Most of the time there are simply no openings available or it was closed already. Basically, there are very few openings of any kind at any given time. Which may be good since it can mean low turn around. Good luck finding an opening that you like. I am moving to another state to get another job just so I have a chance of getting in sooner rather than later.

I want to get clarity. Does every position require me to live in the state? I just checked all of the available ones and they all say that I must live in the state. But do you know if they follow that rule strictly? I talked to a SW worker here who made it sound like he moved out of state for a job to get into SW then moved back, but I am conflicted now. I don't live in any of the states where jobs are at, but I am willing and able to move, both due to having flight benefits and being financially stable, so I hope that this isnt the case for most positions. I am still looking at job openings, but I saw that and hope somebody knows about this issue.

Hi, I currently work for another airline company as a contractor, for the same position I am applying to at SW and want to work for SW because I see their people are treated so much better, even at my small airport. Of course, the extra benefits and pay are great too. I really want the position, but many companies these days hire 3rd party companies to go through the hiring part, so that I am told its worthless to do a follow up on application status or to show my passion for the job, but I hear that SW doesnt do that? If not, can I follow up on my application by calling the base I am applying to? I mean, in the old days you could show your level of interest by checking with the manager over the job you want, and I want to do anything I can to show my worthiness for the job. To raise myself above the crowd. I would even fly there in person if it helped lol

I personally would have taken the part time job and took a second job until I could transfer to full time internally, just because it can be quite hard to get into the airline due to demand. Especially if you are picky about what base you want to start at. You can apply to a new position within the company after 6 months, though just going from part time to full time at the same location/position may be immediate upon approval. I dont know that yet for SW Airlines. But good luck.

I am going to be honest here and this is a bit long. Your hair does look unkempt. It is possible for long hair to look neat, but usually when it is tied back or the man happens to have straight hair. Where the honesty comes in. 1) When you are working, I am willing to bet that the hair you have now will be acceptable to management, though the barely beard may need to be grown or, kept perfictly trimmed or go completely. It looks like you dont care about your appearance too much right now. I mean to say that while some may complain about not being accepted "as they are", because everybody is different, communities negotiate naturally, an accepted common look that looks healthy and dependable to that culture, and companies that need customer service want to work within that accepted norm with a deviation that is dependent on the companies goals. Now, while on the job looks are a little more flexible, you really need to understand the purpose of the interview. Especially for customer service jobs of companies that have a high standard. The interviewer doesnt want to see how you look or act on an average day. They want to see you at your best, to show that you can step up to the standards they ask of you. You need to show them how much you really want the job compared to everybody else by putting your full effort into it, from speech, to body language, to looks. If you think your average is your best, then you are competing with everybody else at a disadvantage because others will be bringing their best. Interviews are a competition. Once you have the job, you worry about doing your job, but you have to get the job first.
