Las Vegas Customer Service Agent Becky Handel has quite the family story with more in common than the obvious: five of her family members work for Southwest!
Our journey with Southwest started when I saw a job application at the ticket counter and immediately thought of my son, Brandon, who’s always loved planes. He grew up playing with the Fisher-Price® airplanes and flying with my dad, who was a private pilot.
Brandon applied and started on the ramp, and eventually left Southwest to pursue his life-long dream of becoming a Pilot. We’re so thankful he’s now a Southwest Pilot. My other son Ryan also started as a Ramp Agent, and he is now a Cargo Supervisor. However, my opportunity to join Southwest came when I visited my niece, Jocelyn, years ago. At the time, she was a Ticket Counter Agent and invited me to “Bring a Friend to Work Day.” I loved it and knew I had to apply for a job. Now, I am a Customer Service Agent in Las Vegas and recently celebrated 20 years with the Company.
What brought us all to Southwest and continued to keep us here is the Fun-LUVing work environment. I get the opportunity to bring joy to people’s lives every day. As a Customer Service Agent, I have an opportunity to play gate games with Customers and spend time with my family. Although Jocelyn has since transitioned to a position in Dallas with Southwest’s Safety and Security Department, we still get together often, mostly during the summer holidays.
Whenever we’re all together, the first thing we talk about is Southwest, and share our stories about our work. It brings us together. We work hard to deliver the legendary Southwest Customer Service we’re known for in the safest, friendliest manner possible.

An Award-winning Southwest Team
I am proud to have my family and myself as part this award-winning Team. In 2019, Southwest Airlines ranked No. 2 of the 500 companies on Forbes' List of America’s Best Large Employers. This is the fifth year of the list’s existence, with Southwest moving up from the No. 13 spot in 2018.
America's Best Employers are chosen by Forbes based on an independent survey from a vast sample of 30,000 American employees working for large or midsize companies. The employees participated anonymously through several online panels so they could openly state an opinion without influence from their employer. The survey has been conducted on companies from all industry sectors employing more than 1,000 employees in the United States. The recommended employers have been grouped into one or more of 25 industry sectors.
