Thank you both! It’s rather annoying that SW didn’t offer this option after (twice and recently) I expressed to them our hesitancy to book a new trip with the expiring funds. I had to rebook then come right out and ask them (third call) when the new funds would expire IF I need to cancel.

Yep in my case. I booked a flight for March 2020 in Sept 2019. We cancelled Feb 2020. Funds still expire Sept 2020. Booked a new trip and funds would still expire Sept 2020 if we cancel. It says this on my new confirmation.

That is incorrect. All travel on the new trip confirmation# must be completed by the original expiration of the travel funds used.
