While I do not think that SW's middle seat policy is misleading, I was profoundly disappointed to receive an email this morning, Mar 3, informing me that middle seats may be occupied for my Saturday morning Mar 6 flight. I have flown quite a bit on Southwest, and just the other day was telling a friend about how much I appreciated the company's handling of issues like extending miles, A-1 and Companion status. However, giving me the option to switch from an overcrowded flight (which I imagine is overcrowded because flight schedules are tighter than in the past), without any reasonable alternative that does not completely upend my plans does not seem to me to be a thoughtful process. The airline makes money. Passengers either confront increased risk or have to upend their plans. I don't need to hear about what other airlines are doing. For so long I felt that Southwest was distinct, different, and cared about the passenger experience. This method for handling flights when we are still in a pandemic has put profit before passengers. Again, I am profoundly disappointed.
