A week later, I received this "no-reply" email. Herb would not stand for such corporate gobbledygook. What is "Vickie" trying to say? Did SWA stop non-stop flights for the uncertainty of COVID or demand? Why are corporate flacks afraid to answer a simple and reasonable question with the same? SWA, you're acting like the other legacy carriers. Please don't forget your culture. It's what built your success. In the meantime, we've booked our upcoming flights on Delta for the first time in 25 years, sad to say. This should mean something to SWA, considering that we earned companion passes 7 years in a row. Dear Bob, Thanks for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to respond. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are facing an unprecedented and uncharted situation, and we understand that many of our Customers are concerned about traveling at this time. We're working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and government officials and agencies to stay apprised of the latest prevention and containment protocols. That said, due to the uncertainty surrounding this situation, we have made the difficult decision to revise our flight schedule by removing select flights throughout our operation. Ultimately, our goal is to enable our Customers to fly when and where they want. In order to do so, we must be strategic in our scheduling by pruning unproductive flights, making adjustments, and trimming frequencies to best match supply with demand. While the routes available may not be quite as convenient, we offer connecting flights year-round for most—if not all—of our markets. I’m truly sorry that, in the short term, you might be inconvenienced. We have tracked your feedback for our Senior Leaders via our monthly summary. In the meantime, we are constantly reevaluating our performance and our flight schedules, so check out the next time we release a new schedule. All of us are committed to providing the best possible travel experience to our Customers, and we hope you will give us the chance to welcome you onboard in the near future. Sincerely, Vickie Southwest Airlines

What do you have to do to get a straight answer on this forum? You'd think that I dropped the proverbial t**d in the cheerleader squad's punch bowl. I only asked to understand the status of this route. Nicole, if I am accurately translating corporate-speak, SWA has indeed cut non-stop service between SLC-LAX, and not temporarily due to COVID or MAX issues. I think you meant that these non-stop SLC-LAX routes are currently not profitable enough for SWA to sustain. Fair enough. My hunch is that will change. I am disappointed because this move to preserve profits "(and low fares!)", means the N/S flights I've taken for decades are now hours-long connecting flights at fares roughly double what I paid for your direct flights. And I'm really disappointed that I will now have fly surly Delta, because their fares are half of SWA's on non-stop flights. Let the market decide. Hope to fly with you again.

I tried. But I did not have "93 minutes approx. wait time" to wait for a rep to answer the phone. Delta, United and SWA have all serviced this "major route" with multiple, daily non-stops for decades. My suspicion is that it is COVID related and hoping that someone the forum can confirm that. Thanks, again, Jessica. It's okay not to know the answer.

SWA has operated multiple, daily non-stop flights between LAX and SLC since they acquired Morris Air in the '90's. It has always been a busy route. A rep should know what's up with a major route, including whether it is COVID related and temporary or not. Thanks for your reply, but I'm looking for information, not speculation.

Our first booking attempt since before COVID. After 28 years, there are next to no non-stop flights between Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, a major route. The fares for connecting flights are astonishingly expensive. I tried to call SW twice and was offered 93 minutes and 87 minutes wait time respectively to speak with a representative. Is this a temporary, COVID or 737-MAX related situation and will non-stops return, or has SW given up on the route? And what's with the lack of phone assistance? Do we have to fly Delta, now? Thx ahead for any enlightenment on this.
