Food shouldn’t be an impossible choice for anyone. In the United States alone, 1 in 8 people face hunger, including an estimated 12 million children. Today, Sept. 17, is Hunger Action Day, a day dedicated to demonstrating that our individual actions add up to make a big impact. Today and every day, you can join Feeding America® in the fight against ending hunger across America.
In hard times, food pantries fill in the gaps
Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief and food recovery organization in the United States. Through a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs, we serve more than 40 million neighbors every year in communities across America. The Feeding America network works daily to provide nourishing food—from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers—to people in need.
We are also there when disaster strikes. The Feeding America network reaches every county in every corner of our nation with support on the ground, food assistance, and emergency supplies when our communities need it most. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment and food insecurity soared. Despite these challenges, our Feeding America network provided 6.6 billion meals to neighbors in need. There is still work to do, especially as communities and families are impacted by the recent crises and disasters.
Food bank volunteers work to serve neighbors facing hungerWe can’t do this work alone, which is why we’re grateful that Southwest Airlines is partnering with Feeding America to help communities in need. Between now and Oct. 4, 2021, Southwest Rapid Rewards Members who donate a minimum of $25 to Feeding America can receive 20 Rapid Rewards® bonus points for every dollar. These donations provide much-needed meals to people in need.
