Here at Southwest Airlines, our dedicated Employees bring passion and Heart to their jobs every single day. That might look like a Social Care Employee helping a Customer rebook when travel plans change … all via Twitter. It’s the Mechanic working overnight to keep our fleet in tip-top shape. It’s the dancing Ramp Agent. It’s a Flight Attendant who provides extra care for a young Customer who is traveling alone for the first time.
Thanks to these dedicated Employees, we’ve again been named one of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work! As the only organization to make the list every year since its inception—this being the ninth consecutive year for Southwest—we are honored and excited to receive this accolade yet again.
Interested in becoming a Southwest Employee? Visit our Southwest Careers Discussion Forum to learn more about joining our Team.
Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list is compiled using feedback based on anonymous Employee surveys, so it means a lot because it’s our own folks who share their feedback about working at Southwest. To see the 2018 comprehensive list, check out Glassdoor.com/BestPlacesToWork.
Our continued recognition is without a doubt due to our Employees’ hard work and passion, and I am so honored to work alongside the more than 50,000 Employees who consider their work more than a career—it’s a calling.

“Where do you work?”
Many of our Employees have shared with us that they love answering this question, because their response is typically met with something along the lines of, “Oh, really? I love Southwest!” That’s why honors like being named to Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list for the eighth consecutive year mean so much. It’s a recognition that’s truly a testament to the pride our Employees take in their careers and this Company.
You may have heard some of the awesome and quirky things about working at Southwest. Here are a few of our favorites:
Work 12 months, get paid for 14. In addition to a 401(k) match, the company has given Employees a ProfitSharing payment for 42 consecutive years. In 2015, the $620M contribution was the equivalent of 15.6% of each eligible employee’s eligible salary.
Tickets for Time. Have a nonprofit organization you love? Give them double the help by volunteering your time AND earning tickets for them while you’re at it! For every 40 hours of volunteerism, the benefitting nonprofit 501(C)3 receives one complimentary, roundtrip ticket on Southwest.
“We need to talk about your flair.” In our “Office Space,” Employees are encouraged to wear flair as a fun way to celebrate during holidays. 37 pieces not required.
Free hugs! The Southwest Culture is known for embracing Employees … both literally and figuratively.
Get rewarded for coming to work. Southwest Airlines Gratitude (SWAG) Points are awarded monthly for perfect attendance and in other fun ways, and can be used to purchase merchandise or services, from $100 Visa gift cards to iPads.
Get Pushy! Our Rampers push back 120 to 130,000 lb. planes nearly 4,000 times a day.
New friends and long-lost relatives. They'll come out of the woodwork to get their hands on your Buddy Passes. #MarryMeFlyForFree
All the peanuts and pretzels you can eat. No need to hoard our Onboard snacks—you’ll have easy access to pretzels and peanuts. Mmmmmm ... lightly salted.
Celebrity spotting at the airport.
Free Beer Mondays. You read that right. The company hosts parties every Monday night to welcome new Employees after orientation at headquarters. Themes and snacks vary, but free beer is constant.
Dress up like your favorite superhero. The Company LUVs to celebrate Halloween—costumes encouraged!
Get paid to spend the night in Aruba. Southwest began international service in 2014, and Pilots and Flight attendants get paid to spend the night in awesome locations like Aruba, Mexico City, and Costa Rica!
Go Virtual. As part of recurrent Pilot training, our Flight Ops Employees fly a $12–13 million virtual reality simulator through the toughest conditions.
Eat dinner with the CEO. Company Executives host dinners with frontline Employees, just to hear what’s on their mind.
Fly for Free. Employees, their parents, and their dependents have the privilege to fly standby for free. If there is a seat, it’s yours!
Keep learning. We already think this is a great place to work, but we continue to add new benefits for our Employees, like tuition reimbursement.
Speak up. We’re not known for shyness, but Southwest Airlines University, or SWA U, offers professional development opportunities like PowerSpeak to help Employees overcome one of the most common fears—public speaking!

If you love working outdoors, and are looking for more than just a “job,” Southwest Airlines is looking for you. We’re hiring 500 Ramp Agents to provide our famous Southwest Hospitality by handling cargo and baggage service, directing and servicing aircraft, and performing related activities on the airport ramp.
Full disclosure: the Ramp isn’t the place for the faint of Heart. Ramp Agent positions can be demanding, with nontraditional hours and exposure to a wide variety of weather conditions. If you’re ready to give it your all, we’re hiring across the country, and relocation assistance is available for candidates who move more than 100 miles for a Ramp Agent position in: Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, and Baltimore.
Of course, we think Southwest is the best place to work, but don’t take our word for it:
#7 on FORTUNE’s list of World’s Most Admired Companies
Top 20 (and the top airline employer) on Forbes' list of America's Best Employers
Named One of the Best Places to Work in 2015 by Glassdoor
More than just a paycheck, when you find your calling at Southwest, it comes with perks like these:
Legendary Southwest Culture
Travel privileges for Employees and their eligible dependents
An excellent benefits package, including a dollar-for-dollar match in the 401(k) plan, up to 8.3 percent of eligible salary
Annual ProfitSharing, which, in 2014, equaled five weeks of pay toward Employee retirement accounts.
Interested applicants should apply now at Southwest.com/careers.

At Southwest, we LUV our Employees and the hard work and passion they show. Thanks to their commitment, we’re been named one of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work in 2015! This is the sixth consecutive year for us to receive this recognition. We’re #15 on the list, the only airline to make the list, and the highest-ranked Company in the travel industry to receive this distinction.
Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list recognizes companies that receive the highest cumulative feedback based entirely on reviews from employees between Nov. 13, 2013 and Nov. 2, 2014. The 50 companies with the highest employee satisfaction with the company, CEO, and other workplaces factors are recognized each year. Southwest has placed on the list each year since 2010. A comprehensive list can be found at http://www.glassdoor.com/Best-Places-to-Work.
It’s our Employees’ hard work and passion that make this recognition possible, and I’m honored to work alongside so many folks who consider their work a calling. This honor belongs to them—they make Southwest the BEST place to work.

There’s a lot to take pride in as an Employee at Southwest: our unprecedented 41 consecutive years of profitability, making FORTUNE’s Most Admired Companies list for 20 consecutive years, or ranking #12 on Glassdoor.com’s Top 50 Best Places to Work in 2013. Something I’m particularly proud of as Vice President of People is our hiring process. We’re frequently asked how we can maintain our unique (and awesome) Culture with more than 45,000 Employees and 96 cities, and my answer is simple—we hire for attitude and train for skill. This doesn’t mean we don’t consider skill sets when hiring, so don’t worry about that pilot on your next flight! What it means is we won’t ever hire just to fill a position. We’re looking for the right person to join our Southwest Family. Is that person you?
This is an exciting time in our Company’s history, as we launch service domestically and abroad, and it’s providing unparalleled opportunity for exciting work and career growth for Marketing and IT professionals. If that’s your area of expertise, please click here to register for the Southwest Airlines Connections event on May 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at our new state-of-the-art Training and Operations Support building. Meet with Southwest Leaders and learn more about our exciting opportunities in Marketing and Technology.
Marketing creates quality demand for our brand through strategic, innovative, and creative brand stewardship, product development, digital communication, media integration, marketing analysis and a customer centric point of view. We need a range of expertise, from analysts and business consultants with at least three to five years of Marketing experience, to Senior Leaders with MBAs and six to ten years in Management. Almost all positions require experience leading complex subjects/programs.
Technology is crucial to delivering the wide range of capabilities Southwest must have to fulfill its future vision of becoming the “world’s most loved, most flown, and most profitable airline.” It’s truly the place to be as Southwest invests heavily in Technology to ensure significant business value is delivered. We need to fill additional roles for Solution Architects, Program Managers, Business Analysts, and Leaders.
Southwest Employees value the opportunity to work hard, make a difference, be creative, and have FUN on the job. They enjoy great WorkPerks such as travel privileges for you, your spouse, your parents and your dependent children; a world-famous Company Culture; a casual dress code; opportunities to give from the heart to the communities we serve; ProfitSharing; an incredible 401(k) match; and excellent health benefits, including medical, dental and vision.
We’d love for you to join our Southwest Family. Working for Southwest is more than a career … it’s a cause, and I hope it’s a cause you’ll take pride in as much as we do.
