Southwest Airlines Co.(NYSE: LUV) applauds the milestone of 30,000 RNP approaches flown into Denver International Airport (DEN). Southwest®, a nationally recognized advocate in RNP implementation, is working alongside the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), airport administrators, and industry stakeholders to develop and implement fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly RNP procedures for wide scale usage at airports across the nation.
RNP procedures are high-performance, GPS-based, continuous-descent approaches that enhance safety, provide greater fuel efficiency, and reduce track miles with lower carbon emission and noise generation, compared to conventional procedures. RNP approaches can reduce flying by 3-5 miles during visual approaches and by up to 20 miles during instrument approaches at DEN. These flights follow highly predictable paths to allow descents at idle power from high altitude cruise, producing the quietest and most fuel-efficient arrival.
"Southwest remains committed in supporting the FAA's efforts to develop RNP procedures, which benefit the industry as a whole, as well as the communities we serve," said Alan Kasher, Vice President Flight Operations at Southwest Airlines. "The success of this program could not have been possible without coordinated support and the leadership of Denver Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON), the Denver Air Route Traffic Control Center, and DenverInternational Airport."
This remarkable milestone makes Denverthe most prolific promoter of RNP in the national airspace system. Denverstands out among 152 runways at 46 airports where Southwest Airlines has collaborated with the industry and the FAA, and progress at DEN represents a good case study of how the FAA, airlines, and local stakeholders can work together to move Next Generation Airspace (NextGen) forward. In the past ten years in DEN, Southwest has grown from 13 flights a day serving three cities nonstop to 186 flights a day to 57 cities nonstop and now carries more local passengers to/from Coloradothan any other airline.
"When Denver International Airport opened in 1995, it was the first airport to achieve a triple-simultaneous landing in bad weather, representing the height of airport design and technology at the time," said airport CEO Kim Day. "Today, we once again find ourselves helping to transform the national airspace through innovative new technology that is catching up to the capabilities DEN was designed for. These new arrival procedures truly represent the leading edge of aviation technology, and Denveris positioned to be a model for airports around the country and the world."
"Cooperation between carriers and the FAA is vital for the success of NextGen across the system," Kasher said. "Southwest looks forward to continued partnerships with the FAA, its industry partners, and airport administrators as we work together toward a modernized air traffic control system."

Tennessee One took ten days to paint with a crew of 12-15 people working over three different shifts, which is an extra two days than our normal Heart livery.
There are a total of eight colors being used to paint the aircraft with the most predominant color being red.
Over two thirds of the amount of paint used was red (almost 30 gallons).
The smallest star on the aircraft is just over six feet long while the largest is almost 10 feet long.
The circle in the Tennessee crest is just under 20 feet which is the same size as most outdoor swimming pools.
Tennessee One is a 737-700 aircraft emblazoned with an artist’s rendition of the Tennessee State flag. Tennessee One joins ten other 737s in the Southwest fleet that carry unique, state-themed paint schemes: Arizona One, California One, Colorado One, Florida One, Illinois One, Lone Star One (Texas), Maryland One, Missouri One, Nevada One, and New Mexico One.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) today announced that its Ramp, Operations, Provisioning, and Cargo Agents have narrowly approved the tentative agreement that was reached with Union negotiators in late December. The Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 555 reports that 50.4 percent of those who cast ballots voted in favor of the five-year contract agreement. The new contract provides wage increases and work rule improvements, while at the same time enhances Southwest's competitive standing within the industry. Company Leaders have long credited Southwest's unparalleled success to its Employees, who consistently deliver a great product, and to the Company's low-fare business model. "We've looked forward to being able to properly recognize the efforts of our Ramp, Operations, Provisioning, and Cargo Agents," said Southwest Airlines Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Van de Ven. "This agreement gives us that opportunity—it allows us to reward them and demonstrates the support we offer our People." Negotiators for Southwest and TWU 555, which represents more than 12,000 Southwest Ground Operations, Provisioning, and Cargo Agents, began contract discussions in mid-2011. The newly ratified contract becomes amendable in 2021. ABOUT SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CO. 42nd consecutive profitsharing contribution shatters previous record This release contains: 1 Related Document Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) today announced it will share $620 million through its ProfitSharing Plan with its Employees for 2015—equaling approximately 15.6 percent of each eligible Employee's eligible compensation, or the equivalent of eight weeks' pay. This $620 million contribution—nearly $1.7 million a day—is the largest total dollar amount Southwest has ever allocated to ProfitSharing. This amount, which will be funded April 29, is more than the cumulative contributions to the Plan over the first 25 years ($559 million from 1974-1998). Over four decades, Southwest profitsharing contributions will have totaled over $3.4 billion—and more than $1.4 billion for the past five years alone (2011-2015).
"Behind every milestone Southwest Airlines has celebrated—and there have been many—our Employees are the driving force. I'm incredibly proud of the Teamwork and Heart behind every accomplishment," said Gary Kelly, Chairman, President, and CEO of Southwest Airlines. "Our People have built one of the world's most admired companies, and they share in Southwest's success with this third consecutive record-breaking profitsharing contribution."

In addition to retirement contributions, Southwest Airlines also invested approximately $672 million in its Employees' other benefits during 2015, including healthcare coverage, and other welfare and wellness programs. In total, that's more than $1.6 billion dedicated to the wealth and wellbeing of Southwest Employees in 2015 alone, on top of base salaries.
Southwest was the first in the industry to offer a ProfitSharing Plan. Through the ProfitSharing Plan, Southwest Employees currently own more than four percent of the Company's outstanding shares.

California’s largest carrier of air travelers files slot application to add service at fifth airport in L.A. Basin This release contains: 1 Related Document Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) today confirmed its interest and application to bring more low-fare service to Greater Los Angeles by adding new Southwest® service in 2016 at Long Beach Airport. Working with the City of Long Beach, the carrier this week formally applied for slot authority to offer new service, subject to requisite approvals. Southwest’s operation at Long Beach would be an addition to the carrier’s greater Los Angeles presence at Los Angeles (LAX), Burbank, Orange County/Santa Ana, and Ontario.
“Long Beach would make it five for five in greater L.A. for Southwest and would give us another service point to fulfill our promise to connect our California Customers not only to what’s important, but also to where is important in planning business, vacation, or personal travel plans,” said Gary Kelly, Southwest’s Chairman, President, & CEO, standing before an Employee rally in Las Vegas. “Nobody can match the value you all bring to air travel with our world-famous hospitality, and no one can offer California what we do on a daily basis, especially with the attractive addition of our low-fare service at Long Beach.”
Employees gathered at a satellite viewing location in downtown Los Angeles cheered the rally announcement that would add a tenth California airport to the Southwest route map. The Company continues to plan for 2016 year-over-year available seat mile growth in the 5-6 percent range. Southwest offers more daily departures from California airports than any other airline, 160 of which are intrastate flights landing within the state, connecting 19 unique California city-pair combinations as of summer 2016. Southwest's California airports will offer a combined peak weekday schedule of 678 departures to destinations across the United States, Mexico, and Liberia, Costa Rica (subject to foreign government approval). Southwest not only carries more Californians within the state each day, the airline brings more air travelers to and from California daily than any other carrier, according to the most recent statistics reported by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

This release contains: 20 Photos, 1 Video The Big Game may not be until Sunday, but Southwest Employees were itching for some football and weren't going to let the freezing Denver temperatures stand in the way. So, in the spirit of orange and blue, the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park was lined, painted, and transformed into a football field… on ice.
With the help of CBS4 News Anchor Jim Benemann and former running back Reggie Rivers, the Denver-based Employees hosted a pep rally for the Big Game that excited children and adults alike. The Montbello High School Drumline kicked off the afternoon with a performance accompanied by the Montbello cheerleaders. Attendees played the Southwest Ice Challenge to win fun prizes and one lucky winner snagged a touchdown-celebration worthy prize, a pair of Southwest Airline tickets!
Denver City Councilman Brooks, Denver City Councilwoman Gilmore, Downtown Denver Partnership Board Chair Rob Cohen, and Southwest Airlines Denver Station Assistant Manager Michele Benze also bore the chilly weather to show the Denver Community they are rooting for the hometown team. The blue and orange wasn't limited to the ice; the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park was lit up with the hometown team colors, and the fans sporting their favorite team's colors were given free skate rental.
After the festivities concluded and ice skating resumed, the Mile High Community was eager to cheer on their team this weekend.
In addition to the celebrations on the ground in Denver, on Feb. 5, 2016, Southwest Airlines also added three additional nonstop flights, with a total of six nonstop flights available that day from Denver to San Francisco (SFO) for fans that will be traveling to cheer on their team. Southwest is also making sure fans get home with three additional nonstop flights on Feb. 8, 2016, from San Francisco (SFO) to Denver.
