The first time I met Herb was on the elevator after I had been at SWA for just over 4 months. I was so excited. I was trying to think of what to say - and only had one floor - so finally I just stuck out my hand, introduced myself and told him I was a new employee. He thanked me for coming to work for Southwest and gave me a kiss. I'm pretty sure I floated out of the elevator and didn't touch the ground all day. Since then I've found he always has time to say hi and I've gotten a few more kisses since then!
My favorite story though is when my husband Larry saw Herb at the grocery store one day. There was a little distance between them and Larry asked him rather loudly "Are you still kissing on my wife?" Several people froze and watched to see what would happen next. Herb just yes, "Why yes I am!". Larry responded "good - she loves that."
Robin is right - he's a rock star here and it always makes my day to see him.

I'm with you Angela. I get choked up everytime I read the "good letters". I love reading them though because they fill me with so much pride that I work for a company of caring People.
And Mary - we have awesome Res Agents!

I love that Jeff! Any chance you can tell us where she got it? Wish we'd thought of it first.

Hi Ivan,
Our plan for serving a new city are closely guarded until we're ready to announce it. I work in Marketing, yet my husband is usually the one who hears about our new cities first on the news! We just announced service to Dulles airport that will begin in the fall.

Speaking of our culture, just yesterday several people in a tour group were taking a picture of my cube. At the company I worked at before SWA there were strict rules about what could and couldn't be in your cube. My walls now are covered with thank-you cards from co-workers, memorabilia from SWA events, tons of photos, etc. My desk is covered with nic nacs that are special to me. The top of my overhead bin is literally crammed with things both work-related and personal that have special meaning to me. I feel very forturnate that the space I "live" in here can reflect who am. Apparently our visitors found that fascinating.

Melissa, you don't have to be in the airline business to have a career at SWA. I was in the insurance industry for - well let's say many years; now I'm at SWA on the Marketing Team. It's a different, wonderful, place.
And Jena, I thought that was very original to come as a parrot. We LUV our "goofy" Jena!

I'm attending the Kentucky Derby for the first this year and I am very excited. I'm having to fly in and out of IND though, so I'm disappointed that I won't experience the festivities at SDF.
And chaussee, if Sweetnorthernsaint doesn't win - you'll hear from me when I get back! ; )

Lowered the standards of the entire industry? What about the awesome flight attendants? I hear horror stories about FAs on other airlines, but great things about SWA flight attendants. What about the fabulous res agents? I hear about people getting stuck in telephone hell with other airlines, but you can get a pleasant, helpful, real person when you call Southwest. What about the gate agents and ticket agents at the airports? I hear about the snotty arrogant attitudes of those of other airlines, but that's not the norm at Southwest. I think Southwest employees raise the bar for other airlines - not lower the standards. (Also, I think of Southwest more as the Target of airlines and I LUV Target - inexpensive FUN stuff!)

Wow Richard, judging by the comments, it looks like we aren't REALLY thought of as just a leisure carrier. I like Laura's spin on it - that we're fun, so people associate that with leisure. Before that lucky day that I was hired here, I was a Southwest business Customer. My company was located in Cityplace so Love Field and the low fares were better for us. We even traveled on Southwest when the corporation directed us to use another carrier exclusively. WE thought of Southwest as a great airline for business travel.
