T. McDaniels :
You've got something wrong that needs to be corrected. You said "On the other hand, Southwest is self-congratulatory because they refund the price of the second seat if the airplane is fully booked and that second seat wasn't available."
A refund is given for 1 seat ONLY if the plane is NOT fully booked. The passenger of size will still have 2 seats, but will ultimately ONLY pay for ONE. IMHO...that's a great deal and is hardly a revenue generator. SW could just keep the money for the extra seat now that might make some extra revenue.

SW seats are NOT smaller than other airlines. IMHO, if you have to wiggle back and forth to get yourself into a seat you need to use 2 seats. I watched a guy do this on an isle seat. The whole time that seat was crying for relief. It was making all kinds of noise. I'd be curious to find out what the MAX weight limit is for a seat row (ABC).
It is VERY uncomfortable to have to sit next to someone that you don't know when their body is resting on you. If it goes past the arm rest YOU are into MY seat and I find that offensive in itself.
He knows he's too big. He WANTED to get on an earlier flight which made him standby. Why in the world would he not tell an employee that he needed 2 seats. He could have had them double check to see that there were in fact 2 seats left for him without him going into the cabin of the plane.
I don't feel sorry for people like this. He obviously knew the policy. He was just being impatient and rude. HE has showed NO class at all. Give me a break here. Wake up and smell the coffee. He is using all of this to get his name out there or to try to cash in on the opportunity to sue.
The United States is the most overweight country in the world and the soaring levels of obesity have been attributed to a poor diet of junk food and fizzy drinks as well as lack of exercise.
Maybe he should take some time out of his busy schedule as a "producer" and go on "The Biggest Loser". Or maybe that should have been the title of this blog.
GO SOUTHWEST AIRLINES!
