Asking of Southwest employees...
HOW is Southwest going to deal with the seat-savers who pay for "early bird" for one or two guests then grab seats for the whole party? Please tell us that Southwest flight attendants are actually going to deal with this.

We paid $40 to add early bird check-in to our flights later this month. I'd strongly prefer an option to pick specific seats at a fee. And the early bird program definitely has issues in that guests aren't even assured of "A" boarding passes. But I'll pay to avoid the check-in frenzy when I do fly Southwest.

I've flown Southwest twice since the new boarding process was implemented. In some ways I think it is an improvement, but ONLY if the gate agents will board by number. If I have #16, I expect to board immediately after the (mostly non-existent) business group. If they allow the A group to board en mass, people will continue to line up (myself included). I'm extremely careful to check-in immediately as my 24 hours becomes available because I do have a seat preference.
If Southwest changes policy to offer exit row seats for an additional charge, I'll be the first person to take that option. We're actually flying AirTran quite a bit this year specifically to avoid the boarding hassles and be assured of our seat preference.

Even MSNBC referred to the view when this "young lady" sat down as "crotch shot". Maybe she just doesn't care. It unfortunate that so many people dress like this in today's lack-of-culture. But I don't think Southwest should have gotten involved in this case. And, unfortunately, we probably haven't heard the of this story.

We are rapid rewards members and fly Southwest often. But we booked AirTran for 11 flights in January / February. My husband and I are swapping off with trips to the northeast to pick-up and return elderly family members for their winter vacations with us in Florida. With AirTran I could get seat assignments. I had to pay $5 per person / per flight extra, but we know we are all seated together close to the front of the plane. I'm over the cattle call...

I fly Southwest frequently, but HATE the mad rush to check-in @ 24 hours prior and the cattle call boarding process. Perhaps the assigned spot in line helps with boarding, but it will only make the advance check-in for that spot even more frantic. Then do the multitude of families traveling with their little darlings still get priority boarding?
I'd gladly pay an additional $10 to reserve my preferred seat in advance.
