Great post Brian! What an amazing trip that must have been. My wife has always wanted to visit that part of the country, and now I have even more of a reason than before!
The rail visits would be too cool. And "hands-on" air museums just can't be beat. I was fortunate enough to visit the Tillamook Air Museum near Portland a couple years ago. It was awesome walking in and around all the a/c there, and it's a pretty small museum (though it's housed in a blimp hangar!). I even have picture at my desk of my kids leaning against the wheel of the F-14 on display there.
Plus, that museum is really close to the Tillamook Cheese Factory, which is another wonderful place to visit. Be sure to try the "squeaky" cheese and then head over to the ice cream counter for a couple fresh scoops of Marionberry Pie ice cream (or Oregon Strawberry, or Mountain Huckleberry, or Wild Mountain Blackberry...sorry, no Candy Corn ice cream....)

Well said USSBB, well said....
Mr. Zhao, you might want to do some research on flyertalk.com in relation to assigned seating. You will find multiple examples of folks purchasing tickets weeks and months in advance, and yet not securing seats together. And I surmise you won't find many folks in an assigned seat who would move to allow parents and children to sit together. After all, that seat is "their" seat....

Thanks for the play-by-play Jedi! Wow, what a whirlwind trip....
What I want to know is, how hard did you crash after that swing shift you worked back in PRC?
And Eric, yep, Adopt-a-Pilot is pretty cool! If you haven't already found it, we have some good info on southwest.com - click here for details.
And, check out the Adopt-a-Pilot blog link over in the Link Luv area.

Kim and Matt, you're right on of course. I'll have to see if I can find something more challenging for you aviation buffs...
I do have to say one thing in BB's defense though, it was only an "alleged" package of candy corn that caused the delay.......

Great post Mary!
Back pre-SWA I worked in a physical therapy clinic, and learned not only lots of great jargon (medial/lateral, dorsal/ventral, distal/proximal, etc), but some great shorthand that I still use--R in a circle for right, L circled for left, c for with, s for without, p for post, fx for fracture, and so on. It's no wonder my wife can't read my writing.
Of course, SWA has its own special shorthand. You just gotta love reading a sentence like "Org A/C N123 mx dly fwd lav, etr 1320, xcl F211, swap" and knowing exactly what it means....

Leah,
I'm sorry to read about your teachers' struggles with cancer. I can certainly see your motivation to be as involved as you are with so many wonderful causes. God bless you for the work you do. It must be incredibly difficult, and I can imagine often heartbreaking. I don't think that is something I could ever do...
Boy, this blog has a hero overseas in Francisco, and one right in our backyard in Leah.

Boy, DB, that is quite a Ding! offer you have going there, but I can't really determine the expiration date...can you clarify for us? I'm so used to the "1,2,3, DING! for free" type of simple, straightforward offers....
Or am I just confusing DING! with the Wall Street report on candy corn futures?

Kim,
The other riders didn't complain too much when we were in the crosswinds! Arrgh! My neck is still a bit sore from that....(but no whiplash, I rollout nice and smooth, just like Captain Stark!)
And, since V1 for the inflatables is about 10mph, and rotation is like 18mph, I do throttle back a little. I like living on the edge, but not that close.....
Micah,
That run sounds great! There is just not much better than a cool, crisp fall morning.
Don, as far as I know, Terry and Rosie have only worked in HDQ. I may have to check into that though.....
Cap'n James - you're the man. Thank you for your Leadership of the Team! Without you at the helm, we'd surely be floundering around each May....and nice "plane swap" at TMS, by the way... :-)
And I have to echo James' sentiment. Join us next year! The more riders and volunteers we have, the more FUN we have and, more importantly, the more funds we raise!

I assume that you are referring to a usb video game, rather than an actual defensive device for your cube.
Because, as we all know, a Jedi can use the force to defend himself.....

I eagerly look forward to seeing smiling SWA faces this Saturday during the Sam's Club MS150 bike ride fundraiser. SWA is hosting a rest stop during Day One of the two-day, 150-mile "party on wheels" that raises money for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. And, this all-important rest stop falls at the 65-mile mark , 13 miles before the Day One finish at Texas Motor Speedway. We riders will sure be glad to see you (and your coolers full of water!!)! It's sure to be HOT and HUMID this weekend! UGH!

Seriously though, GREAT work gentlemen! Just another reason SWA is the best in the business!

Great story John! Thank you for sharing it with us.
You hit the nail right on the head. Southwest is truly a collection of individuals who have come together for a common purpose and to achieve a common goal--to be the BEST Customer Service Company in the country. Oh yeah, and we'll fly a few planes around too, allowing America the Freedom to "Move About the Country."
Thank you for recognizing our commitment our Customers and to each other. We truly are a Family, of which each and every Customer is a part. After all, we're always glad to see you again!
And thank you for being a Stockholder! I'm guessing you've realized a little return on that investment.....

Amen Francisco.
Our Heroes are the men and women on the ground, in the air, and on the sea who willingly put themselves in harm's way every day. One of my Coworkers' Reserve group was called to active duty, and he is in the middle of his tour in Iraq right now. We pray for him, and for all military personnel, to come home safe and come home soon.
