This reminds me of my childhood... run with me here....
When I was a kid, my dad would take my sister, brother and I out of school for a day sometime before the holiday. That day would be dedicated to going to Toys-R-Us with dad and is ever-present notepad. Then we'd go up and down each aisle, telling dad all the things each of us wanted on our lists for the holiday.
Thanks for bringing back the cool memory. 🙂

I too have tears in my eyes. Your mother reminds me of my maternal grandmother. We really expected her to give up after grandpa passed away, but we should have known she was tougher than that. She got to meet each of my sister's children, and half of my brother's children before she went to meet her husband.
Thank you for sharing, and I'll say a prayer for you and your family.

I checked, but there's nothing planned for the Wash/DC area. I'll have to keep the page bookmarked and watch for something in this area.
Thanks for the info about this group!

Leah, I just have to say that as I read through your last comment I got my tongue twised from the alphabet soup!
I'd like to take a crack at your question, and suggest that they're called that because they come two peanuts to a pod. Much like peas come many peas to a pod. They obviously don't look too similar, but you can see at least some.
Oh yeah... Congrats to the new Vegas Crew Base folks!

This reminds me: I can't count the number of times that someone will ask me where to find something while I'm shopping in retail stores. It seems that people are so starved for help, that they will decide that you're an employee and ask you questions if they think you're knowledgable.
Thanks for sharing the stories, Carole.

Leah,
May we both be lucky enough to earn our place in southwest.... meanwhile, I probably shouldn't tell you I'm an English teacher, hunh? 😉

While I desperately hope to be a member of the team some day, I currently teach public school.
I've learned that the classes go smoother if I meet every student at the door with a smile and a welcoming greeting.

I didn't cause the prank, but I helped straighten it out.
My mother and her second husband got a couple of monetary gifts from friends as wedding presents. If I recall correctly the first was a card that contained 5 checks for $20 each. Each check was cut up into peices, and they were all in the same envelope.
The second gift they got was a HUGE metal cylinder of coins (think of a 10 gallon bucket). It had also included sugar, and the metal ends were welded on. We spent HOURS rinsing the change out of the sugar, and I spent hours stacking and rolling the coins after that.
It was a nice chunk of change (he, he, he), but a LOT of work!

Great party Leah!!!!
But you forgot the T-shirt. It can't be a SW blow-out without a T-shirt.
Brian, what's the shirt look like for this one? Can you post a picture?

I can't think of the last time I watched the clouds. Though it is a restful occupation. These days I tend to look for rainbows though. One time I saw a full circle rainbow around the sun! It's about the coolest rainbow I've ever seen.
Your story reminds me of a brief vacation on the east coast skiing. Out east they get most of their snow from snow machines, so the areas under the lifts are not really very snowy most of the time. One vacation my brother and I were picking out shapes in the melting snow each time we went up the lift.

Hi Bill,
So it looks like a lot of the work of these SWARM folks is prepared in retrospect, and then applied to future situations? I mean, you find out about those GOTCHAs after they happen, and then try to find if they are going to happen again?
Also, you said that local SWA-folks also give information... is this sort of a situation where when they hear of local stuff going on they let HQ-SWARM know?
Thanks for the info.. it's really very interesting.

Hey Ray,
My bro-in-law was out flying in the weather yesterday and my sister and I were talking about what it must be like. It's nice to read about it in first-hand perspective.

Francisco,
Thank you for sharing your experience. I could use a good dose of humility each day, and that certainly did it!

I think I'm missing something. I've flown Southwest a few times and sat in a variety of seats. The only vast difference between seats that I've found is the ones in the very front, by the bulkhead. Other than that, they all seem the same to me. Am I missing something?
It seems to me that an extra 30-90 seconds taken to get off the plane probably isn't going to make me late if I wasn't already late, if I'm sitting in the middle or back of the plane.
Where are these special seats that everyone wants?? I'm just clueless I guess.

This is a perfectly written example of the reasons that I hope to attain my own freedom, by joining the Southwest family.

I did a couple of months in Chicago. It was over the winter, and I had to be there for some trainings. The BEST part of being there was the food. My fav is Bubba Gumps shrimp bucket thingy. I went there at least once a week.
Sadly, Howl at the Moon, a dueling-piano bar, is no longer doing pianos.
Thanks for the reminder of Chi-town.

Thank you for posting about this topic. I guess I've been around planes in some way or another my whole life. However, my husband's first flight was just before we got married about 2 years ago. He tolerates flying because we like to travel and see people, but I know it's not comfortable for him.
I'm going to forward your blog to him and encourage him to read more about this. Maybe knowing more about how flight works would help him too. Anything that makes it easier for him would be *great*!
Thanks!
