Matt, for ABQ: how about bringing back a dedicated kiosk for departing passengers needing a printed boarding pass who have NO baggage? (Place it away from all the other kiosks, perhaps near the windows fronting the curb, as ABQ used to have.) In SoCal, all airports have these (and they are very convenient). During peak times, it is very hard to squeeze in front of the long line just to (re)print a boarding pass, and the baggage-laden passengers squawk about your 'cutting' in front of them.
