Here's something positive for the Oregon Ducks........War Eagle. π

You folks do realize that folks bring their own food on the aircraft. Who knows what types of products they are, shellfish, strawberries, nuts (tons of granola mixes out there). To say that SW is doing a dis-service by serving peanuts is just absurd.
Peanuts are NOT new to Southwest, they've been on their planes for 40 years. Just the flavors rotate from the honeyroasted to the lightly salted.
Not sure how you folks work around flying on the other airlines where the passengers have their own food items as well, any of which could contain something someone is allergic to.

I'm curious who has flown since this new service was announced and were adversly affected by it? Real hard facts, not speculation on "what if's". Anyone?
SW stil has no hidden fees and to infer that this rivals the fees other carriers have put in place for things that used to be free (and still are on SWA), is not comparing apples to apples.
This is a new service, if you choose to use this service there is a fee. It is totally optional. Let SWA have a chance to evaluate it. I AM POSITIVE, they will tweak it if necessary and even limit the number of Early Birds available if too many are purchasing it if need be.
Give it a chance, try it if you like, or check in online at 24 hours before your flight and see where your boarding pass is. I'm confident that families who check in online 24 hours before their flight will get a boarding number that allows them to sit together. However, if you don't check in at the 24 hour mark, your chances will go down. I personally enjoy the time alone to read a book. ;)
Parents with children under 5 still board right after the A's. That's still in place. And btw, if a mom with a young child needs a seat together - the FA's are always accommodating. A flight will never go out with a very young child separated from their parent. Our fellow SWA passengers always come through and help accommodate this type of issue if a parent arrives late/last for check-in.
Open minds, give it time - SWA has their customers best interest at heart and that will never change.

Sandy - SW has no policy in place prohibiting saving seats, so there is nothing for a flight attendant to enforce. . Passengers may sit in any available seat.
If a passenger becomes unruly during boarding then that opens another can of worms. There are polite ways to handle a disagreement and we would hope that the traveling public is aware of that if they can't behave for boarding then maybe the bigger question will be can they behave during the flight.
To all - feel free to sit in any open seat and a purse, computer, coat, lunch, etc. does not make a seat unavailable. π

It's not a fee for something you've already had. Still no charge for checking in 24 hours early, or at the airport (for those of you who procrastinate and then expect a B pass). No charge for two check bags, no charge for cola's, juice or coffee, no charge for the great snacks, no charge for an aisle seat (and yes the B group still has a selection of aisle seats), no charge for window seats and many other items that other airlines do charge a fee.
Not sure what "other" fees you guys are referring to that make you think SWA is like the others. SW is brining in new services that weren't around before and that's what you are being charged for, unlike the other airlines that are now charging you for things you used to get free.
Also people, really, it's a short part of your day (or night) in most cases that you spend on the plane. Why act like you are going to be spending days in that seat? Worse things in life to worry about then a seat on a 3 hour flight.

There is a lot of misplaced anger here. SWA is not doing anything TO Frontier; Frontier put themselves in a position to be acquired and that's what's happening. SWA is making a business move and it certainly is not personal. Who knows who else might bid on Frontier, but it certainly does not make SWA the bad guy because they happen to be in a position and have the funds to buy Frontier.
SWA is a great company and their employees enjoy working there. If Frontier employees want to be mad at someone they need to look to their Executive Board and how they mismanaged the airline and ended up in this position with their jobs in jeopardy.
If SWA does end up the highest bidder they will do what makes good business sense and again it won't be personal, just business.

Again the question must be asked -
What carrier will you choose now that ALL carriers allow animals? Really, if animals are the true reason - I'd like to know which non-animal carrier you will find to serve your domestic flight needs.
To those who have flown on other carrier who've allowed pets for years - how many pets and or problems have you seen?

The carrier has to fit under the seat in front of the pasenger -
How big will that carrier be?
*The size of a large purse, maybe a computer case? A hat box (no that's probably too big),
What size animal fits in a carrier that will fit completely under the seat AND the dog or cat must be able to stand up in the carrier AND turn around while standing?
* a lab? (well maybe a weeks old puppy)
* a rottweiler (again, maybe a weeks old puppy - and it's not too tall)
* a Chihuahau (bingo!)
* a Terrier (only the tiniest)
* a Cat? only the average size
The size of the animal is limited, the space for the carrier is unforgiving (remember the life vests are taking up some of this space) - the animals WILL NOT be large.
5 animals per flight, yep only 5........
And btw - fresh air is circulated every 2 minutes.
Folks take the time to really read the information that SW has put out on the subject, new things always seem scary. If it doesn't work or problems crop up they'll address it. Customer service will still be #1 in our Servant's Heart.
Susan

Thanks Steph for the insight! I feel the same way you do about this being humbling - after all it's a job I've thought of for many years and I'm just now getting to it!
I do not look back and regret never applying (well actually I did request an app in 1979 but I talked myself out of sending back the application!). Talk about getting in your own way! My life took me down another path - which I've enjoyed, and still am enjoying, but I can feel that this job is the right fit in my life now. I'm very excited and feeling quite honored that they want to see me again!
I was so impressed with the memorabilia on the walls at HO in Dallas. I could have spent the day there just going through the halls and reading everything on the walls. I'm hoping to have time to read some of it when return for the 1 on 1 next week. I left that day knowing I wanted to be a part of this team - truly amazing!
Thank you for wishing me luck and I'll be lurking around to post on the progress. I'm ready to make a splash in that pool too!

Hi all - whew, made it through the blog! The excitment here is wonderful. I attended a GI in August in Dallas after sending in my online resume about 5 months ago. Turns out some of the other people there had recommendations from friends who were current FA's with SWA and their invitation to the GI came after only a couple of weeks.
They did not do any one-on-ones that day, but said it would be 2-3 weeks and we'd be notified by mail. It didn't take that long! I was asked back for a one-on-one coming up very soon.
Like Steph I didn't really prepare for the GI, although I did a lot of online research trying to find out what to "expect". I really believe that all you can do is be yourself, and take a good look inside at your experiences to see what you have to offer and have information to share. I have a lot of life experience, yet to recall it at a moments notice is a little hard - it's always hindsight where I smack my forehead and think "why didn't I mention that!". LOL
So for the 1-1 I am finding info regarding what to "expect" but I won't be "rehearsing" any answers because that wouldn't be me. I'm very excited to have the opportunity and whatever it may bring!
