I was at home in Portland, Oregon. This was before I worked for SWA. I was sitting in my mom's backyard/patio area. We were talking about the day's events, how unbelieveable they were. I looked up in the sky...
"Mom, look up. There are no jets in the air. No contrails...its eerie."
"It might be a while before there are again."
"Could be months", I said. Nobody knew.
Thankfully, it was much sooner than that. I've seen the footage and pictures of SWA's return to the sky, and although I was not part of the company then it fills me with such pride to see that plane lift up in the sky.
A warrior's heart, indeed.

It seems the public thinks flight attendants are generally not very intelligent. That's so funny to me. I've met former doctors, nurses, teachers, makeup artists, military (me included), lawyers, housing/real estate, bankers...the list goes on.
Personally, I think we've just figured out that the 9-5 grind isn't for us. We have CHOSEN to break free of that dreariness and most of us LUV our jobs! It just amazes me that there is so much diversity among not only our flight attendants, but our entire company!

As one of the lucky few new hires in 2005, I was excited to attend the Love at First Bite luncheon in Baltimore. At what other company would you get to sit next to the VP of Inflight, Daryl Krause (a great guy and a class act if I've ever seen one) and hug the President of the company Colleen Barrett?
As for company events, I'm a new hire and I work 6 days a week to earn money. I suppose I'll get to go to the other (LAST!) Annual Chili Cookoffs and Spirit Parties down the road . Mmm..chilli!

Passing peanuts and Coke isn't hard in itself but what gets difficult is when you're on your last drink on a tray and somebody is handing you trash and then another person is asking for a blanket and a pillow and then yet another person in the part of your section that has already been served is already asking for another drink and extra snacks and a pillow. So, you quickly grab the blankets/pillows, take the trash in your clean hands, throw those out, quickly wash your hands, bring another drink and snacks for that bone dry thirsty/famished passenger..then realize you have NO IDEA where you left off on your section...*sigh*... 😄

Colleen-
I can't being to say THANK YOU enough for everything you do for us at SWA. I know for a fact that I wouldn't be doing what I LUV without the hard work you, Herb, Rollin, and all the original FAs did in the early days. It was a real pleasure meeting you at the BWI New Hire Luncheon earlier this year and I know I'll see you again! :-)

Being a SWA FA also I do have to say that it is very helpful to pass out the snack for us on the short flights. It makes our cabin service that much easier and also makes us feel LUVd!

StakesAlive325 & Darlene: Some advice on training: GET SLEEP, caffiene is your friend, be humble and remember that you're not hired until you get your wings. We started with 132 applicants and graduated with 111. Several of those lost were for inappropirate behavior in the hotel as well as attitudes with the training staff. When you walk into Headquarters every morning to start training all of the instructors are standing there smiling. They're looking at you head to toe, to see how you look, to see if you're smiling, and making eye contact. They can form an opinion quickly about who isn't going to work out so make sure to smile. We call it "Barbie Boot Camp" and its true. Your face will hurt from smiling but its totally worth it. All the stress, the hard hours of studying, the tests, the anxious feeling before the test results come out...all totally worth it when they call your name at graduation! 🙂
Oh, and make sure you know your PAs from the study book they send you...we lost people the first day that hadn't even bothered to study...and they had a 2-week head start and they had no clue when they got there. :)
Good luck, keep your chin up, and you'll be at 37,000 soon enough ;)
LUV,
Matt

I was just talking with another flight attendant (f/a) on a flight the other day about this. We're receiving a LOT of new 7H4s (737-700s) this year. We use 2, 4, & 7 tail numbers to denote the -700s. What are we going to use when we reach above N299xx? We've used 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 #s so far...maybe 8 then?

From what I was told by a very reputable source higher up in the company is Crown Royal feels that their brand is "big enough" and doesn't need the promotion via mini-bottles that cost them quite a bit to produce so they are doing away with them and we will be receiving Maker's Mark onboard instead. I don't drink the stuff myself but I have heard that Maker's Mark is a better blended whiskey anyways. Even better...cheap fares, premium liquor!!!

I'm a Baltimore-based flight attendant and my favorite overnights are as follows (and yes, I bid based on these places):
San Diego: GREAT hotel (though, we're leaving it), absolutely amazing buffet breakfast. Great to have your crew join you and chew the (hehe) bacon.
LA: Again, amazing hotel, very swank, and great breakfast too! The rooms are cush and soooo comfortable.
Spokane: Amazingly beautiful area. Great to walk around in the downtown area, albeit summer only...too cold for me in the winter!
Louisville: Wow...what an amazing city. SOOO much to do there! The hotel we stay at is supposed to be haunted, so that's fun too. One of the best overnights I've ever had.
and one more though I could go on and on...ok two more...
Tampa: One of our hotels sits right on the water...we have a view of the bay/ocean and from the even numbered rooms you can see that view...absolutely tranquil. Sitting at the pool, sipping a margarita (not less than 8 hours before we fly though...gotta be responsible)!
Kansas City: One word... BARBEQUE!
