"As I read through this thread I am more and more convinced that I will fly Southwest whenever I can!
SA enforced a policy protecting us from the self-centered mentality of the obese. No one forced the big mac, fries, shake, pizza etc down your throat. To call obesity a handicap is insulting to those who have no choice. To equate Kevin's treatment to racism is just plain ignorant.
And now all the over privileged obese are planning to boycott! YIPPEE that means I will not have to dread walking to my seat to find half of it taken over by the gynormous person next to me.
KUDOS Southwest Air - you have a new customer for life!"

"The number of posters who clearly HATE overweight people is apalling. I am ashamed of all of you."
my personal feeling about fat people are irrelevant; the point is, being fat is not a handicap it is a lifestyle choice. in the same way that a private company can make judgment calls about what lifestyle choices they will or will not allow (e.g., i cannot smoke on an airplane) they can and should make judgment calls about how the obesity of a few effects the flying experience of the many. they should not accommodate fat people if it isn't in their business interest to do so. if you are as ginormous as smith and don't like the policies of SW, well get together with a bunch of other fat people and form your own airline that caters to the fat.

All things considered, at least SW is allowing diverse viewpoints on their blog here. Kevin Smith's blog (http://www.smodcast.com/smodcast/smodcast106.php) keeps deleting any comments that aren't in support of his position.
And for those of you who say "he isn't that big" take a look at this: http://blogs.usatoday.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2008/10/30/llkevinsmith_3.jpg
