Hi Leah - sorry it has taken me forever to respond (and via the SWA blog nonetheless!) I am in the pool waiting for a CSA position to open up. I am willing to wait as long as it takes. I'll be in touch when I hear some news. Good luck with all the college choices!

Sorry - no comment on the post, just want to know if that's Leah, SWA's favorite future employee?? I haven't seen you on the blog for awhile (but that could just be me). How are things going? I have to tell you, I actually have one foot in the door now. After three years of trying, I got offered a position.....I'm waiting in that hopeful pool of future employees now. I don't care how long it takes, I'll wait patiently. Are you still in Tulsa? That's where my husband is from, so we visit the in-laws once in awhile. Take care!

Two weeks ago I was offered a CSA position with Southwest. I have since passed all the background checks and fingerprinting and am currently waiting in the "pool." I was thrilled to learn that I had been chosen for the position and have been so excited ever since. I do understand that when people are angry, they will tell 10 times as many people about it versus just a few if they are pleased with a situation (hence many of the negative comments on this topic). I take a lot of these comments with a grain of salt, but I do want to clarify one thing. John, you wrote that the new hires are "living off the senior agents' blood, sweat, and tears" and that "the senior agents give you everything you have today." Is this anger/resentment toward new hires really so prevelant at many of the airports? I have no problem being the new hire, given a starting pay and the less desirable shifts, but if it's widely known that the more "senior employees" feel so negatively toward the new hires, I may have to rethink taking this position.

Brian - I just checked out your profile and discovered that you were born in Clovis, NM. I wasn't born there but spent a lot of time there with my boyfriend at the time who was stationed at Cannon AFB. I have to say that it wasn't my favorite place he was stationed, but I do recall one memorable event in which we were driving on the highway toward Lubbock (at night) and had a near run in with a cow in the middle of this fairly busy road. Being from the north, the only thing I was used to dodging on the road at night was an occasional deer - good times! 🙂

Looks like I'll be one of the few people on my upcoming flights with SWA - more peanuts for me!! I don't understand the hostility of some posters. Yes, it's disheartening to hear that a flight you took with family and/or friends could have had a potential problem. What if you get a recall notice on your vehicle today for a faulty part? Are you going to NEVER drive your vehicle one more mile again? I doubt it.

Thanks for the information, Joe (via John). I appreciate it! 🙂

I know this comment doesn't pertain to this particular story, so I apologize, but when will we find out the winners of the DING contest that ended on 3/7/08? Did I miss it somewhere?

Thanks Bert! I intend on "hanging in there" until I'm your co-worker. 🙂

Hi Bert - it's great that all the customer service agents in Nashville love their jobs and all (as there rarely seem to be openings for that position at BNA), but do you have any inside scoop as to when you might be hiring again? I'm waiting as patiently as I can.
My husband and I flew from BNA to LAS the day after the new boarding process was implemented. The SWA employees in Nashville were very helpful and had everything under control. Vegas was a bit more hectic, but the funny part there was that someone had stuck two enormously long pieces of masking tape with numbers on them to the ground so that everyone knew just right where to stand. It kind of felt like being at a grade-school carnival and participating in the cake walk - too funny!

Hi Leah - you crack me up with your "facts/thoughts of the day" and "jokes." I have been reading the blog entries as thoroughly as ever, just haven't had a chance to respond recently. I'm still holding out for a position with SWA, are you still doing the same? Somebody would have to be NUTS to not hire either one of us very soon! My one-year waiting period for a CSA position at BNA is coming to an end soon, and I'm so excited to be able to apply for that position once again. I've already applied for RA, OA, and PA too. Take care!

Leah - thanks for your kind words. It's nice to hear from someone who knows "what it feels like" to get that stinkin' letter! I've applied for a couple of different positions at the local airport, and hopefully I'll have a better outcome the next time. I'll still be reading these boards as often as I can, so I can keep up with your current status along with Nicole's status. ****I do have to say that it was a sad day, but things happen for a reason, and I'm so fortunate that I'm leaving next weekend on my "belated" honeymoon - to Alaska, so that should help take my mind off things. I'll be looking for you and Nicole on future posts - 🙂

Hi Leah and Nicole....I'm not sure where to post messages for you two, but since I've gotten responses from both of you on this post in the past, I'll do so again. Sadly, I got the "dreaded" letter in the mail yesterday. Now I have to decide if I am willing to wait an entire year to apply for this same position again. I have already applied for three other positions at my airport, but I do have a question. I know I can't apply for the same position at my local airport again for a year (CSA), but can I apply for that same position at another airport before that year is up? Thanks for your help!! 🙂

Sadly, I have no grounds for "smack" talk being a Michigan fan. Refusing to back that other Big 10 school in state, my husband and I are going to cheer for the Badgers this season.....what's up with the red pants this year?? I'm also cheering for whatever team is playing Tennessee on any given week. 🙂

Mr. Fritz,
I'm truly not trying to pick on you personally, just wanted to make a comment regarding something you wrote. On the Fly 2, Get 1 Free promotion, there are four steps to booking this deal. Step one states "Go to southwest.com and purchase two long-distance* roundtrip flights for yourself." That's not hidden in small print in any way. The asterisk regards the definition of a "long-distance flight."

Nicole and Leah......thank you both for your thoughts. I will keep you posted on a possible one-on-one interview. The tough part will be waiting an entire year to apply once again if it's a no-go, but I understand their policy in that regard. Good luck to both of you...hopefully we'll all be employed by our favorite airline in the near future!!

Ughhhh....too bad certain posters have to carry their "shame on Southwest" views over to this thread. My suggestion is going as one of the "cavemen" from the new TV show and commercials. Then you could ride the people mover throughout the airport just like the guy in the commercials. *****Leah, how is your job search with SWA going? I try to keep up with your latest news on the blogs. I had my first group session last week for a CSA position. No word yet on a possible interview, but my fingers are crossed. Good luck to you!

USS BLOG BOY.....finally, a familiar face on this blog!! I read the SWA blog daily, and typically it's all in good fun. Where did all these people come from? Ironically, I interviewed for a CSA job with SWA earlier this week. I feel that this whole situation has been blown WAY out of proportion, especially seeing that it happened over two months ago and is only now gaining national attention. Now more than ever, I'm hoping to be offered a position with this company as it obviously supports its employees even in difficult times. If I'm not lucky enough to become an employee, I'll still continue to fly this airline as they are simply the best in the business.

Hi Elaine....hands down, I would go with Southwest. That's not necessarily a knock on NWA, they seem to be turning the corner (at least financially). Flight attendants on Southwest seem to have a lot of fun and have a more "friendly" disposition. I think this is a result of Southwest appreciating its employees, etc. By the way, consider yourself lucky for the job offers. Southwest never seems to be hiring customer service personnel in Nashville, and that is my dream job. I guess I'll just keep watching for an opening and keep applying. 🙂
