This is super news! Gary, Brian, and all responsible, thank you!! I have an extended family who's foundation is based in Minneapolis (McKnight) so I will be promoting SW as much as I can for several reasons! The first is because it may allow me to nanny for my grandchildren when the kids have board meetings, secondly because we all know how much FUN SW is and last but not least, I am working hard at landing a flight attendant job with you! I have had day dreams for a few years now picturing myself with the P.A. in my hand telling my grandson's favoirtie "knock knock" joke while he is on the plane and I am serving the wonderful guests of Southwest! Soon, my little ones, soon! Gramma will be there on the plane with you seeing to your safety! I hope you are reading this Shawn D. in recruiting at Oakland, I'm coming after that job! You'll remember me, just look at my name and add lich to it, you'll get it! LUV, the young grandmother's association president..."nanna #1"

Funny, in all the news, on the t.v., over in Britain, even here on the blogs, people are talking about the most depressing, black, blue or bleak day of the year! It was, according to the news, January 22nd, but in Britain, January 24th! Did this just come about or have I missed it somehow with my happy-go-lucky self? I'm just tooo naive I guess.
I had a wonderful January, I moved into a new home, started child care for my wonderful grandchildren and ripped my bathroom apart to update and modernize it. (Was really hoping for the EXTRME team, but my extreme team is myself usually.) That's ok, because another thing I remembered to do besides date my check '07 is to UPDATE my RESUME to SOUTHWEST! And again, it was a near miss.
I just recently called to confirm that SW had received my on-line update and the receptionist jumped to the conclusion that I was calling to re-schedule my flight for an interview in Alameda. I was a little confused but my heart was pounding in my chest when she said, "Oh, hi Serena, I bet you are calling to change your pass, I hear you all have had some bad weather up there!" I slowly answered yes we have, but...she went on to say, "I just talked to .... and she asked to wait until the end of January, would you like to do that also?" I slowly said yes, but...and even though I was praying and hoping I was about to get a pass confirmation and code, I knew I had to find out for sure if it was really ME they were inviting for an interview. So I reluctantly said, "Before you go on, I think we better see if we are on the same page here......, Again my name is Serena W. and I'm calling to see if my updated resume had arrived because I had no on-line communication to let me know." She then said, "Well let me see,...pause...."OH!, I'm so sorry, I thought you said you were SABRINA, not SERENA!" My little ole' heart just sank into the 4 foot drift of snow. I said, gosh, wish I were SABRINA but I'm not so is there an address I can write to so I can confirm my latest bio in my resume?" and she gave me a name and number. We said our good bye's and so sorry's again and I blankly hung up the phone. I sat and thought about the near miss, so close, yet so far.
I guess it's better than an outright no hire but my happy-go-lucky attitude strayed for the moment. It's been awhile now and the snow has melted to the ground leaving an ugly dirty mess on my car and I can't find my flower bed but I'll survive. I'm a survivor from way back...ask anyone and they will tell you, I'm a 5 foot and 3/4" tough grandma and I'm not throwing in the towel just yet.
Oh yeah, as far as my opening comment on the lousiest day(s) of the year, they can be there if YOU want them to be or not! I feel safe and sound just in between like today, January 23rd, my 9th anniversary to my wonderful husband who I have to thank for bringing me back from a black hole when my happy-go-lucky got lost temporarily.
Happy anniversary Glenn!
Lots of Luv, if I can do it, anyone can do it!
Serena
