On a couple of occassions, I have picked up a bag in an empty seat and moved it to the bin and sat down, or asked, "Is this your jacket?" as I pick it up and sit down. Seat saving may not be against the policy but the policy IS open seating. No person = open seat. If adults can't sit apart for a couple hours, they should buy Early Bird together.

chris535355 - Why not just buy your family the cheap $15 early bird check in? I buy it every time I fly Southwest (and for everyone in our party) and expect that I can sit in any open seat. I don't owe you anything, including a saved seat for your family.

"to save a seat if you've paid for it" But you haven't paid for the benefit of "saving that seat." People who paid $15 for Early Bird PAID for the benefit of choosing any open seat, not unsaved seats. If people can't sit apart from their spouses, friends and children, they should pay the fee to ensure they will be in similar boarding group.
