But I do appreciate that he posted about his experience as I've experienced the same bad customer service from SW. It's good info for the community so we're better equipped to weigh our options when choosing an airline.

I'm not for assigned seats but I think SWA needs to have a clearer seating policy. If it's open seating, then how many seats can a passenger save?

I actually had a flight attendant named Barbara tell us onboard flight #3902 to LA that SWA has an official seat saving policy. I should totally have asked to see it but didn't think fast enough. Pretty crazy to learn how inconsistent SWA's seating policies are. What's the point of boarding groups of people can just cheat the system? Next time I'll save rows of seats for my friends then-- if that's the official policy.

Well I actually had a flight attendant named Barbara on flight #3902 confirm to the entire plane that southwest has an official seating saving policy. She declared that passengers can save seats. I'm sure she's wrong but it's employees like her that's making the problem even worst by providing misinformation. Now everyone aboard this flight will go save tons of seats the next time they fly.

Lindsay, but does pre-boarding policies excuse the fact that people are saving seats for others in later boarding groups? I agree that southwest needs to work on a clear policy that's consistent across flight crews. Seems to be a huge issue judging by how many people have raised the same issues. I guess SWA doesn't really care about their customers.

I'd like for SWA to clarify their policy or at least make sure all employees are on the same page. I had a flight attendant named Barbara on flight #3902 from Austin to LA tell us that SWA's official policy allows for saving as many seats as you'd like.

Btw, I'm only concerned because my companion and I were boarding a completely booked flight and tried to grab the last two seats available. Someone was saving the seat for their friend who was boarding way behind us. He freaked out and refused to give up his seat so I asked Barbara, flight attendant, for help as I understood that it was open seating and I have a right to any available seat. Barbara was extremely rude and declared that it was SWA's official policy to save seats. If true, this would be ironic because we had friends on this flight in the A group who didn't save us seats at the front because they were polite and tried to be fair to everyone else on the plane. Barbara was very unfair to my companion and I. She took away our rights to available seats by misquoting official policy.

Can someone please clarify SWA's seating and boarding Policy? I was told on flight #3902 by flight attendant Barbara that the official SWA policy is that passengers can save as many seats as they'd like. However, upon thoroughly researching southwest.com, I came across just the following policy: "We have an open seating policy, so feel free to sit in any available seat when you get onboard." Based on the sentence above, one can safely assume that as long as no one is sitting in a seat, then one can claim it as their seat. So if the policy on the website is correct, then that would mean that Barbara doesn't know the company's policy and is giving misinformation to a plane of passengers. So what is the policy?
