WELCOME, AKRON-CANTON, DAYTON, AND DES MOINES…AND LOTS MORE SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR THE SUMMER AND FALL!

So…if we announced all of this yesterday, you’d think it was an April Fool’s joke.  BUT IT’S NOT!  We’ve just unveiled lots of service adjustments in the Summer/Fall 2012 schedules.

Headline News:  Southwest is adding THREE new cities!  Effective August 12, Southwest will begin daily service at Akron-Canton (CAK) and Dayton, Ohio (DAY).   At Akron-Canton, we’ll begin with two daily roundtrips to Chicago Midway and a daily roundtrip to Denver alongside AirTran’s 10 daily flights to five markets.  At Dayton, we’ll begin with one daily roundtrip to Denver alongside FL’s eight daily flights to four markets.  Then, on September 30, we’ll begin service to Iowa’s Capital—Des Moines (DSM)—with two roundtrips to Chicago Midway, effectively converting that airport to the Southwest brand.  The new Southwest service will offer Customers in Ohio and Iowa fantastic access to the rest of the Southwest network.

We also unveiled a number of other schedule changes.  On June 3, we’ll shift the one remaining AirTran flight between Milwaukee and Denver to Southwest, giving us three daily Milwaukee-Denver roundtrips!  We’ll also add two AirTran roundtrips daily in the Atlanta-Houston and Atlanta-Chicago Midway markets, and one AirTran roundtrip between Atlanta and Baltimore/Washington, Denver, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.  Southwest also will add one new seasonal nonstop flight between St. Louis and Panama City Beach, FL (where “Everyone Can Party!”) and between Austin and Portland, Ore., as well as an additional nonstop between St. Louis and Boston and between Dallas and Austin.

Starting August 12, in addition to our new service to Akron-Canton and Dayton, we’ll be shifting one roundtrip daily from Southwest to AirTran between Atlanta and Los Angeles, Chicago Midway, and Phoenix, as well as adding AirTran frequency between Atlanta and Boston, Baltimore/Washington, and Houston Hobby.  We’ll also shift one roundtrip from AirTran to Southwest between Milwaukee and both Las Vegas and Phoenix.  We’re also implementing similar service swaps in numerous markets effective September 30, in addition to our new service at Des Moines.

These schedule changes mark the first time that we’ve shifted existing, out-for-sale service between the Southwest and AirTran networks, which will go a long way toward aligning both networks to provide even better Customer access (note:  if you have reservations on service that’s affected, we’ll contact you very soon!).  Of course, we’re also incredibly hard at work to make the ultimate in network alignment possible— allowing Customers to fly across the Southwest and AirTran networks!  We’re making progress, but it’s a very large job, since neither Southwest nor AirTran’s reservation system had the capability to connect the networks prior to the acquisition.  Hopefully we’ll have the capability ready to roll out to our Customers in 2013.  Until then, again—welcome to Southwest, Akron-Canton, Dayton, and Des Moines.  Have a great day, everyone!

I really like Southwest and try to take it whenever possible but it is very difficult to get from South Florida to Western North Carolina or East TN. There is a large contingency of South Floridians that frequent this area year round. Please consider a direct flight from Asheville, Knoxville, Tri-Cities and Hickory. Come on folks cheer them on. Thanks

Sure wish you could add Cincinnati - CVG to your market! We need your great service. Driving to Louisville for it now. Please give it some thought.

What about SWA service to Portland, Maine? I thought this would start sometime in 2012...yet no mention of it. ???

This is good news! I can get closer to Cincinnati. Currently fly to Columbus, Indianapolis or Louisville - all 2 hours away. Dayton airport is only 45 minutes from a frequent destination!

Hooray for the nonstop AUS-PDX - it will make it much easier for us to visit family there and vice versa. What about Lehigh Valley (ABE) being able to connect through MCO to/from AUS using AirTran and SW? Have family up there also and flying into PHL is no fun. There are lots of folks in the northern PHL burbs who would much prefer ABE over PHL with real planes instead of RJs.

Sure would like to see some SWA service to Toledo [TOL]

Great they're adding more cities, just wished they would add SPI to their list. It's a shame that the capital of Illinois doesn't get the pleasure of having SWA fly in there. As of now have to land in STL, do not like going to Chicago's airports.

Best stuff as ever from Southwest; I don't expect anything less. I've been hearing rumors of direct flights from California to Hawaii! Please them be true.

Oh, but I was so hoping that Southwest would be direct from Phoenix to DSM. Or at least through Omaha or Kansas City. It makes it a much longer trip through Chicago. I know that "other" airline in Phoenix flys directly to DSM, but SWA is such a better experience!

Hawaii!! I go back and forth to the islands and *every* flight is full. Airlines that are servicing Hawaii have cut back on schedules so instead of having four flights with 80% full they now have two flights 100% full. I know it makes business sense but flying full means long waits for everything, boarding, deboarding, in-flight service, restroom use, etc. When Is SWA starting service to HI so hopefully I don't have to fly in another cattle car? I fly out of SJC avoiding the congestion at SFO and OAK.

The new non-stop service between St. Louis and Panama City Beach is described as being "seasonal". What will be the dates of this season ? Also, how about direct (or better still non-stop) service between St. Louis and Jackson, MS ? It is hard to fly between these two cities without connecting thru some out-of-the-way airport.

I agree with all of the suggestions about adding Cincinnati (CVG). With 40,000+ college students there, SWA would pick up great traffic. I'm all for SWA to add Cinci to the route schedule!

Glad to have Southwest in Akron. But we need a nonstop from either CLE or CAK to Sacramento. We are in SMF often, and always LUV to be there.

We who are fairly loyal SWA flyers had a shot several years back to codeshare with ATA all the way to the TRUE Southwest. That would be HNL. Since SWA is so hepped up on vacation destinations, and now has a 737-800, it has overwater ability, but perhaps not sufficient seats (182) to justify the long haul there. How about wholly-owned AirTran? Do they have 10-across seating on any of their fleet, if that's what it takes to do at least two a week flights to our 50th state? I'll still spend my money with American or United if need be, but as a RR member, I'd like the points from SOUTHWEST. Happy Easter, y'all!

How about SWA flights from Akron-Canton to Hartford, CT? Right now, I have to either depart from Cleveland, or fly Air Tran from Akron-Canton to Boston. Boston is very inconvenient.

I read sometime ago that Southwest would soon be flying into Canada. Is Winnipeg one of the cities you will be flying to ? If "yes", what U.S. cities will you fly to from Winnipeg ?

Will there be a flight from Dayton, Ohio to Ft. Myers, Florida (RWS) airport and back to Dayton?

Hi Bill!!! It was great to see that you are adding Akron/Canton! BUT-We live in NorthEast Ohio and always have to travel 2 hours and 45 mins to Columbus to get the cheaper flight pricing. It is so much higher to fly out of Cleveland. Hope you make the prices worthwhile. (Or at least close in price) LOVE flying Southwest!!!!!!!

They should add service to Fresno (FAT) to catch all the football crowd now that Fresno State has Joined the Mountain West Conference. In addition to just having the Womens NCAA regionals for the tounament played at Fresno.

Really excited about Dayton! Thanks! Now you should consider Bozeman, MT. It is centrally located between Billings, Helena and Butte (approx. 100 miles from each). In Montana, 100 miles is a "commute" and you would collect travelers from all three. There is limited large jet service from Bozeman east and west but nothing but "bug smashers" CRJs from north to south (Salt Lake, Phoenix, Las Vegas, etc.). And you have to rob a 7/11 to afford a ticket. This would be a great addition to Spokane and Boise routes. Keep up the great work! And "Ding" to you too.

Your new changes are great, but can you PLEASE ADD DIRECT FROM ALLENTOWN, PA TO CHICAGO, ALSO DRIECT TO REGAN OR DULLUS, CINNINATTI, AND PITTSBURGH. IT IS HARD TO GET TO NEWARK, PLEASE PLEASE CONSIDER THESE OPTIONS. I KNOW YOUR PLANES WOULD BE FULL.

Great! Can we add a Akron to ECP??? You would get so much traffic to the suggery white sands of Panama City with a direct route. Can't wait for that to happen.

Please - Please - Please keep Air Tran going into Sarasota/Bradenton - Since Southwest will be there anyway there is no need to cut Akron-Canton to Sarasota. Please consider this as many in our area (Sarasota/Bradenton) are quite upset about the cut coming in late summer. Air Tran (and Southwest) will lose many customers to other carriers.

We love SWA but have had to drive to Columbus or Indianapolis to get a flight. Dayton will be great but would like for you to come to the Greater Cincinnati Airport & show Delta how to really treat customers. I'm sure you would take over & then they would be the one at the short end of the stick. GO SWA!!!

Would really be nice if you could get flights into Wichita, Ks. I always have to fly Frontier to get there, or whoever their partner is. Would much rather be able to fly Southwest because your employees are always nice.
