Cancelling a flight I booked for someone else with RR points

If I cancel a flight I understand the points will returned to my account but are they now associated only with that person?  Or can I use them for myself or a different person?

I eventually found this while searching:  When a flight bought with points is canceled, the points go back to the account that yielded the points to purchase the flight.
