BEWARE the credit card offer!!! I should have know it was too good to be true. I signed up for a Chase/Southwest Rapid Rewards Visa and was told once I charged $4000, I would get a companion pass. I charged $4,000 within five weeks. Now Chase is saying they will notify Southwest in 6-8 weeks that I met the requirement. I don't know how long it will take Southwest to approve it. Which means the tickets I have to buy in the next two months or more won't qualify for a companion pass. And this offer ends March 1 which means instead of a year, I will get maybe 8 and a half months to use the companion pass. There is no justifiable reason for a two-month delay.
This timing would have all been described in the terms and conditions when you signed up. Hopefully you can get it as early as possible to catch these earlier trips.
It's still quite a bargain compared to the full version of companion pass, "too good to be true" seems a little extreme here.
Go ahead and buy your tickets now by the way if that's your worry - you can add the companion later, anytime up until the cutoff for sales. (I've added companion tickets at the airport before, although this is stressful I don't recommend waiting that late!)

You mean solve the Boeing problem by adding an Airbus problem? (Not the inventory which would probably be nice, but part of the foundation of Southwest's strategy is flying only 737's to simplify maintenance and staff training.)

So the way to play the game is become friends with somebody in A Group and have them to hold a seat for you. If you give them $20 instead of upgrading to A1- A15 then you way ahead of the game.
I am fairly sure that Saving seats is a SWA policy because the Flight Attendant told me that the seat was saved when we went to sit in the third set of two seats.
I normally don't feel bad about saving a middle seat since any other solo traveler (except for @TheMiddleSeat ?) won't be wanting that spot anyway, but I see your point where you are looking for two seats and if someone is in the window you'd expect to be able to get a middle and an aisle.
I suppose it is an informal policy - all you will find written is "any open seat" but never defining what an open seat is which we'll surely see some comments on this board in the follow ups that it can only mean a person in a seat and others that consider a saved seat next to someone not to be available.
Personally I'm all for someone saving a seat next to themselves for a spouse or child, up to a three-row section. People saving multiple rows, for co-workers, etc. no.
But basically it doesn't affect me that much and I just move on. I'm a happy guy and I'd like to stay that way and not let it bother me if I can help it.

We are flying in 9 days and I'm wondering if our whole family will be eligible to board with family boarding?
We will have 2 adults, 4 kids ages 10, 9, 6 and 3. We will likely have our 3 and 6 year olds in their carseats and I wouldn't be able to carry both seats myself, so I'd need my husband to board with me, but we obviously wouldn't leave our 9 and 10 year olds alone.
Thank you!!
Are you flying as a family very often? I would say it is atypical for a six year old to have a car seat onboard the airplane, but that's up to you as long as it is an FAA approved car seat.
The policy is too vague for this situation to be covered - could it be one adult and one older kid go with one younger kid and then the other adult and older kid go with the other younger kid? Maybe yes. The policy says "adult" but the older kids have adult tickets so do they count as adults in this context?
If that didn't work then have one adult and one older kid go with the two younger kids, and have the other adult and other older kid either come later in their position and save spots for them, or else get priority boarding for those two and have them get spots for all of you following later at family boarding.
It will be easy to save some spots together the further back you go in the plane if necessary.

What's MPC?
That would be enough for an airport like HOU where it's almost all Southwest flights, you'll easily be able to get back to the domestic gates.
I've forgotten if there is a dedicated security screening for re-entry to the airport or if you go back to the main TSA checkpoint.
Global Entry might help as well if you have it.

For a VERY LONG TIME the rule has been that if you no show a flight, you forfeit the value of your ticket. It's the same for every airline.
Points tickets used to be refundable in this instance but I believe that is changed as well.
The only exception is Business Select flights that would be automatically made into travel credits, other fare types will be forfeit - including any remaining legs of your same itinerary so if you no-show the outbound trip your return trip may also be affected.

If for whatever reason this doesn't work or leaves too much on the table I would suggest to write-in with the description of the situation but hopefully using the WGA+ workaround will solve the issue as a self-service action. It might be granted only for the most exceptional situations.

You'll have better results to tag them if they are still active on the board from that long ago. @atkinsont
Summarizing from other posts the points can be restored sometimes if they can be intercepted based on whatever the hackers are doing with them, but many cases the points are spent in a way that Southwest can't verify what has happened. (You are allowed to book someone else a flight with your points for instance, so having only the example of another person booked with your points isn't evidence of fraud all by itself.)
There seems to be a mixture of examples where the points are or aren't able to be restored.

Ok. Maybe people really are already having that conversation at some point and getting the designation. I've just never had to personally have it when I preboard. But, I do always buy an extra seat. If someone is with me, I just say "they're with me" because they don't have it on their boarding pass either.
I just don't ever see that many people at the desk talking to the gate agent, for any reason, so I just assume that they aren't talking to them and thus not even getting the designation. I guess a lot of them just do it with an agent at check-in.
That's good to know.
Most people are getting it at the ticket counter, you can put the request on your ticket when you buy it that you need wheelchair or other assistance, and if the passenger didn't do that then the ticket counter will also add it if you ask for a wheelchair then.
The pushers at the airport are looking for you to have registered your request at the ticket counter although sometimes you can get assistance without requesting it in advance if they aren't super busy, on many days it is a line of people waiting for someone.
The only passengers who might be slipping through en masse would be people using preboard who are ambulatory but have a hidden disability or require a certain seat. These passengers could be requesting preboard at the ticket counter or else at the gate.
Regarding your other comment that you always "buy an extra seat" do you mean Customer of Size? Then that program includes preboarding to ensure that you get access to two seats together, and then your companion would be included so this is normal for the policy, but since you aren't using wheelchair assistance it is fine for you to check in at the Gate rather than the ticket counter.

When you get your monthly statement, does the statement show that points are going to two RR accounts?
Since Southwest adds points to accounts at Chase's direction, the only way to fix this is to contact Chase.
Just to clarify @dmspen - the credit card points should go into only one of your rapid rewards accounts, and then you each should have separate RR accounts that will show your own points from flights (hotels, etc.)
So for instance your wife may get all the CC points and then see her own flight points, and then you may login and see only your own flight points. (or vice versa)
See if that's the case. You shouldn't both see the CC points from the same credit card on your individual RR accounts.

I've heard the gate agents say that you need to have the PRBD designation on your boarding pass in order to preboard. But from what I've seen, this is never enforced. I think if you make people get that designation either at check-in or at the gate, fewer people will go out of their way to do it. And I'm just talking about the "scammers" not the people who necessarily need it. I'd say the people that absolutely DO need it have already had the conversation and already have the designation. Companions would need to get the designation as well, and if you tell the gate agent that you have five companions then that's going to be a no.
All I'm saying is use what's already in place and just enforce it. If you do not have the PRBD designation on your boarding pass, you do not get to preboard. Period. This shouldn't violate any laws because you're still allowing those who want to preboard to do so, they just have to take an extra step in order to do it.
Counterpoint:
I believe nearly 100% of people that preboard have gotten it marked on their boarding passes, and anytime I've boarded with my mother who uses it we've been checked for having it. One time we didn't have it they still let her on since we were in the wheelchair and it was obvious.
I don't know if that would work for the companions, that may be an area of improvement enforcing only one helper/companion per preboarding passenger. I'm not sure about actually marking the peoples' boarding passed with that designation though since they aren't able to use it without the person who has requested it. If the original preboard passenger didn't fly for some reason or changed flights the helper would still have it on their boarding pass - I'd say no to that, or it would have to be "preboard companion" or some other marking than the same "PRBD" marker.

One idea would be to maximize point usage by booking one-way tickets then you can use points on one leg and cash on the other.
Otherwise your booking has to be all cash equivalents or all points but not both - that feature is supposed to launched soon to allow points plus cash but not available yet.

Finding this thread after experiencing the same frustration. I fly to MCO from Chicago at least once a year and my mother does the opposite also at least once a year. Looking for flights for her for June and there’s barely any non-stop to ORD and MDW costs are ridiculous! Between the 2022 holiday mess, going on 4 weeks now waiting on my refunded priority boarding after they changed our flights out of nowhere and were given C boarding, and now the inability to get a decent flight… really losing faith in Southwest.
Midway is widely known to be the cheaper of the two airports, the fees associated with the landing and facilities are way less hence why Southwest has been using Midway for so long to the exclusion of O'Hare until recently. If the fares are high then it's due to supply and demand.
Some gates opened up during the pandemic due to the international flights being so much less so Southwest was able to claim ~4 gates in Terminal 5 at O'Hare. The strategy seems to be offering direct competition from O'Hare to American and United who fly to their hubs so there is definitely a concentration of flights to DEN, DAL, PHX, and then Southwest's "hubs that aren't hubs" BNA and BWI.
ORD can never equal what MDW has to offer as Southwest has 20+ more gates to use at MDW.

That's very long, Midway can be a longer time frame than some others but usually faster than that for sure.
I suggest to reach out to Southwest either online or Contact Southwest Customer Service and explain your observations and how it affected you - just include the facts. They may be able to offer a voucher, TBD but first step would be to ask.
The other perspective on this would be whether your flight only was delayed or was the whole baggage system backed up? That could signal whether there was a problem in general at the airport or if there was something specific to your flight that got held up.
Who knows about "what someone said" you have to consider for yourself does that person really know or does it make sense? This one doesn't...if the staff had "just walked off" then they were on the way to do something else and it was probably a miscommunication to get the task filled by someone else.

I have transferred points a couple times, and that is when the other person just needs 1000 or 2000 points to be able to use the rest of their to complete a flights and I don't have enough to book it for them. (and in hindsight I probably could have transferred from my Chase card for free)
This is great advice - transfer or buy points only to top off another account where they otherwise wouldn't be used.
Even then consider if the fees are going to be too high and you should just buy the flight, there will be some breakeven point where buying or transferring points will cost more and it would be better just to leave the points for a later opportunity to be used.

It took me a wile to understand their postings; You are getting the points, it is just that they have two lines one for tier qualifying and one for the points that are available for you to use toward a flight. The 8K points are the credit card points you see in your total to use toward new flights, in addition that entire amount also counts toward companion fare. You will also get 1500 for every $5000 CC dollars spent, so it has different row that shows 0 additional points because you do not get these as additional points available for use to fly because that was included in the 8K line: This $0 line is to increase your tier qualifying points only. It is broken out a little different than your flight that shows both in the one line; you will always have some portion of a paid flight go toward Tier status, but you may not have a portion of your credit card; For example if the CC was only 3000 you would not get the tier status allocation because you did not reach the 5K required.
To simplify - the TQP are "theoretical" for your status and in this case they don't equate to having actual rapid reward points to redeem and they do not equate to having more CP qualifying points either.
Most points you earn from flights will show up as TQP, CP, and RR but these 1,500 point bonuses are only contributing to TQP.
