Today I saw that points were "on sale", discounted 40%. So I bought points for $342, added my 3,000 points that I already had, and booked a flight. An hour later I checked the price of booking the same flight with money instead. Huh! Would've been $16 cheaper and not used my previous 3,000 points. Customer service can't help me with this. What can I do?

Patricia were you able to get help to return your points purchase? Or did they make it up to you? Thanks.

Points purchases are non refundable.
It's buyer beware when it comes to them. Purchased points almost always result in a flight that costs more than a regular flight.
The ONLY time it might make sense to buy a FEW points is if you are a few points short of what you need to buy a ticket.
If you want to give the gift of flight to someone, give them a SW gift card.
