We want to bring a beach chair that was given to us as a gift, on our next flight. Has anyone wrapped one up a certain way and put it in checked baggage? Just trying to figure out the best way to do it.

I don't believe it has to be in a bag but needs to be taped closed, so it won't open by accident.

I would wrap the folded beach chair in beach towels and then pack it flat in a cardboard box. You can strategically make a cardboard box to custom fit it by using one or two other large cardboard boxes that are cut to size and securely taped together.
Write FRAGILE in red on all sides of the box.
To avoid excess size charges, the finished box will need to be equal to or less than 62 inches in size (outside length plus height plus width).
Also be aware that you will not be entitled to reimbursement or compensation if it is damaged, as this will be a situation where limited release of liability applies.
Safe travels!
