More than 100 hospitals and medical organizations to benefit in 2015 This release contains: 1 Related Document
Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) announced today that 75 nonprofit hospitals and medical organizations from across the nation will benefit from the Southwest Airlines 2015 Medical Transportation Grant Program, with the total impact reaching 101 facilities. Through the program, participating nonprofit hospitals and medical programs provide complimentary, roundtrip airline tickets to families who need to travel for specialized medical care. Receiving world class medical attention is more attainable when the cost of travel is not an issue. In 2015, Southwest will provide more than $3.2 million in free transportation to caregivers and patients seeking medical treatment, a 14 percent increase from the 2014 program. For a full list of 2015 participants, please visit www.southwest.com/medicalgrant.
"We care about the communities we serve and are honored to partner with like-minded hospitals and medical transportation organizations," said Linda Rutherford, Southwest Airlines' Vice President of Communication and Outreach. "We are proud to help fill the gap between where patients live and where the doctors they need practice so patients can receive the treatment that best supports them."
Since the Southwest Airlines Medical Transportation Grant Program's inception eight years ago, more than $16.4 million in free transportation has been distributed to organizations in 26 states, making a positive impact on the lives of more than 41,000 individuals. Andy Furmann and his family are just one example of those impacted by the program. In 2013, Andy was in a life-changing ski accident that left him partially paralyzed from a spinal cord injury. Andy traveled from his home in Massachusetts to Atlanta so he could receive treatment at Shepherd Center, a hospital, research facility, and rehabilitation center specifically for people with spinal cord or brain injuries. Through the Southwest Airlines Medical Transportation Grant Program, Andy's father was able to balance work at home while also visiting Andy in Atlanta. According to Andy, his father's presence during his treatment was just as important as his physical therapy and medical treatment. Visit the NUTS About Southwest blog to read Andy's story and learn more about the positive impact of the Medical Transportation Grant Program.
"As one can imagine, when you have a catastrophic injury, finances become tight," said Anna Elmers, M.D., a staff physiatrist at Shepherd Center in Atlanta. "Southwest Airlines' Medical Transportation Grant Program has been a wonderful way of allowing family members to see their loved ones who are undergoing rehabilitation at Shepherd Center. Having loved ones near provides the patient with important emotional support during their recovery. We are so thankful for our partnership with Southwest!"
To learn about qualifications for travel assistance through the designated organizations, please contact the Social Work, Travel/Concierge Service, or Patient Assistance Department directly at each location, as each has unique guidelines for the administration of tickets.

Southwest Airlines® (NYSE: LUV) today announced it will share $355 million through its ProfitSharing Plan with its Employees for 2014—equaling approximately 9.6 percent of each eligible Employee's eligible compensation, or the equivalent of five weeks' pay. This $355 million contribution—nearly $1 million a day—is the largest total dollar amount Southwest has ever allocated to ProfitSharing. Not only is this amount $127 million more than the previous record, set with last year's contribution of $228 million, but it's also more than the last two years of ProfitSharing combined—an increase of 56 percent compared with 2013. Since its inception, Southwest Airlines has shared more than $2.8 billion with its Employees through ProfitSharing—and almost $1 billion in the past six years alone.
"Last year was chock-full of historic milestones and monumental accomplishments, and I'm immensely proud and grateful for our People who worked so hard to make it happen. It was truly a heroic effort," said Gary Kelly, Chairman, President, and CEO of Southwest Airlines. "Our Employees take ownership in our success, and when the Company does well, our People do well. Because of them, we can realistically aspire to fulfill our Vision of becoming the World's Most Loved, Most Flown, and Most Profitable Airline."
When this ProfitSharing contribution is added to the Company's $289 million in Company match and other amounts contributed to the Southwest and AirTran 401(k) retirement plans, Southwest will have rewarded Employees with a 2014 total retirement benefit of approximately $644 million. In addition to retirement contributions, Southwest Airlines also invested approximately $618 million in its Employees' other benefits during 2014, including healthcare coverage, and other welfare and wellness programs. In total, that's nearly $1.3 billion dedicated to the wealth and wellbeing of Southwest Employees in 2014 alone, on top of base salaries.
Southwest was the first in the industry to offer a ProfitSharing Plan. Through the ProfitSharing Plan, Southwest Employees currently own more than four percent of the Company's outstanding shares.

Beginning in April, Southwest will offer daily nonstop flights to nine new cities from Dallas, including Memphis, Milwaukee, and Seattle, and will increase the number of nonstop flights to recently introduced destinations added after the October 2014 expiration of the Wright Amendment restrictions on long-haul flying at Love Field.
"Customer demand for our new, convenient long-haul nonstop service from Love Field has been even stronger than we anticipated, and we are excited now to have the opportunity to offer more flights to more cities from Dallas," said Bob Jordan, Southwest's Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.
Details on numbers of flights as well as the full list of the cities and fares will be announced soon. Terms of the deal are confidential. The transaction was reviewed and cleared without conditions by the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division. The City of Dallas, the owner and operator of Love Field, also has approved the sublease.

Return on invested capital, before taxes and excluding special items (ROIC) 1 , of 21.2 percent for 2014, as compared with 13.1 percent for 2013.
Gary C. Kelly, Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "We are extremely proud to report record annual 2014 net income, excluding special items, of $1.4 billion, or $2.01 per diluted share. Our 2014 total operating revenues were strong, increasing 5.1 percent to a record $18.6 billion. Our 2014 operating cost performance was also solid, with costs declining, year-over-year. Our ROIC for 2014 was 21.2 percent. This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the hard work, perseverance, and determination of our Southwest People, and I commend them for these exceptional results, which earned them a record $355 million in profitsharing for 2014, up 56 percent from the previous record in 2013. Our strategic plan has come together successfully, and we have realized significant contributions from the AirTran integration, fleet modernization efforts, and the continued growth of our Rapid Rewards program.
"Our balance sheet and liquidity remain strong, with cash and short-term investments of $3.0 billion at the end of 2014. We generated strong free cash flow 1 of $1.1 billion in 2014, allowing us to repurchase $955 million of Southwest common stock, pay $139 million to Shareholders in dividends, and reduce debt and capital lease obligations by $261 million, net, during the year.
"We concluded 2014 with record fourth quarter profits, excluding special items, of $404 million, or $.59 per diluted share. Total operating revenues were a fourth quarter record $4.6 billion. On a year-over-year basis, our fourth quarter 2014 revenue per available seat mile increased 2.0 percent, which is outstanding considering the 2.4 percent increase in available seat miles (ASMs); the 2.6 percent increase in stage length; the 2.4 percent increase in seats per trip 2 (gauge); and the large percentage of our capacity under development. Customer demand remained strong, resulting in a record fourth quarter 2014 load factor of 82.0 percent, up 1.6 points from fourth quarter 2013. We are pleased with our passenger unit revenue and booking trends thus far in January, considering the continuing impact of increasing ASMs, stage length, and gauge, and the large percentage of our capacity under development. Based on these trends, we currently expect our first quarter 2015 passenger revenues to grow in line with the expected six percent increase in first quarter 2015 ASMs, both on a year-over-year basis.
"Our fourth quarter 2014 unit costs, excluding special items, were down 3.8 percent year-over-year, primarily as a result of significantly lower fuel prices. Our first quarter 2015 cost outlook is also favorable. With the collapse in fuel prices since September 2014, fuel prices have declined nearly 50 percent. Based on our existing fuel derivative contracts and market prices as of January 16, 2015, we estimate our first quarter 2015 economic fuel costs to be approximately $1.90 per gallon, which would result in approximately half a billion dollars in year-over-year fuel cost savings for first quarter alone. Excluding fuel and oil expense, special items, and profitsharing, we currently expect first quarter and full year 2015's unit costs to decline in the one to two percent range, compared with the same year-ago periods, driven largely by our capacity growth and ongoing fleet modernization initiatives.
"December 28, 2014, marked the sunset of the AirTran brand. Overall, the AirTran acquisition resulted in net pre-tax synergies (excluding acquisition and integration expenses) of approximately $500 million in 2014, exceeding our $400 million target.
"We launched international service on Southwest Airlines to seven destinations in five countries in 2014, which will grow to seven countries with our plans to begin service to San Jose, Costa Rica; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; and Belize City, Belize, in 2015, pending government approvals. We have been very pleased with the overall performance of our markets under development, most notably Dallas Love Field, New York LaGuardia, and Reagan National.
"Without question, 2014 was a monumental year for Southwest Airlines with many notable achievements. My gratitude goes out to our outstanding Employees for their tremendous efforts and the successful execution of our strategic initiatives, which allowed us to achieve our financial goals and expand our service internationally. As we enter 2015, we are well positioned financially and excited about our growth opportunities ahead. We remain steadfast in our unwavering commitment to preserve our financial strength, provide job security for our Employees, protect our low fare brand, and deliver adequate returns to our Shareholders. We live up to that commitment by offering friendly, reliable, and low cost air travel, and by expanding our network in a sensible manner."

Financial Results and Outlook
The Company's fourth quarter 2014 total operating revenues increased 4.5 percent to $4.6 billion, while operating unit revenues increased 2.0 percent, on a 2.4 percent increase in available seat miles, all as compared with fourth quarter 2013. The growth in operating revenues was largely driven by strong fourth quarter 2014 passenger revenues.
Fourth quarter 2014 passenger revenues were $4.4 billion, which was an increase of 2.6 percent on a unit basis. As a result of continued monitoring of Member redemption activity and behavior under the new Rapid Rewards program launched in March 2011, the Company has increased the amount of spoilage expected for points sold to business partners. This change in estimate, which was recorded on a prospective basis, increased passenger revenues by approximately $55 million, and increased net income by $.04 per share, for fourth quarter 2014 and for the year ended December 31, 2014. The higher spoilage rate is expected to continue in 2015; however, the precise revenue impact will not be determinable until the actual number of point redemptions for the period is known. Based on current trends, the Company expects its first quarter 2015 passenger revenues to grow in line with the increase in its first quarter 2015 available seat mile capacity, both on a year-over-year basis.
Total operating expenses in fourth quarter 2014 decreased 0.9 percent to $4.0 billion, as compared with fourth quarter 2013. Fourth quarter 2014 profitsharing expense was $100 million, compared with $66 million in fourth quarter 2013. The Company incurred costs (before profitsharing and taxes) associated with the acquisition and integration of AirTran, which are special items, of $48 million during fourth quarter 2014, compared with $19 million in fourth quarter 2013. Excluding special items in both periods, total operating expenses were $3.9 billion in fourth quarter 2014, compared with $4.0 billion in fourth quarter 2013.
Fourth quarter 2014 economic fuel costs were $2.62 per gallon, including $.03 per gallon in unfavorable cash settlements from fuel derivative contracts, compared with $3.05 per gallon in fourth quarter 2013, including $.03 per gallon in favorable cash settlements from fuel derivative contracts. Based on the Company's fuel derivative contracts and market prices as of January 16, 2015, first quarter 2015 economic fuel costs are expected to be approximately $1.90 per gallon, which is nearly 40 percent lower than first quarter 2014's economic fuel costs of $3.08 per gallon. As of January 16, 2015, the fair market value of the Company's fuel derivative contracts for 2015 was a net liability of $234 million, and an approximate $1.1 billion net liability for the hedge portfolio through 2018. Additional information regarding the Company's fuel derivative contracts is included in the accompanying tables.
Excluding fuel and oil expense, profitsharing, and special items in both periods, fourth quarter 2014 operating costs increased 3.6 percent from fourth quarter 2013, and increased 1.2 percent on a unit basis, primarily due to higher labor, depreciation, and advertising costs. Based on current capacity plans and cost trends, the Company expects its first quarter 2015 unit costs, excluding fuel and oil expense, profitsharing, and special items, to decrease in the one to two percent range, compared with first quarter 2014's 8.50 cents.
Operating income in fourth quarter 2014 was a fourth quarter record $621 million, compared with $386 million in fourth quarter 2013, resulting in a 13.4 percent operating margin 4 . Excluding special items, operating income was a fourth quarter record $679 million in fourth quarter 2014, compared with $418 million in fourth quarter 2013, a 62.4 percent increase year-over-year.
Other expenses in fourth quarter 2014 were $319 million, compared with $52 million in fourth quarter 2013. This $267 million increase primarily resulted from $293 million in other losses recognized in fourth quarter 2014, compared with $27 million in other losses recognized in fourth quarter 2013. In both periods, these losses included ineffectiveness and unrealized mark-to-market losses associated with a portion of the Company's fuel hedging portfolio, which are special items. Excluding these special items, fourth quarter 2014 had $11 million in other losses, compared with $21 million in fourth quarter 2013, primarily attributable to the premium costs associated with the Company's fuel derivative contracts. First quarter 2015 premium costs related to fuel derivative contracts are currently estimated to be in the $25 million to $30 million range, compared with $17 million in first quarter 2014. Net interest expense in fourth quarter 2014 was $26 million, compared with $25 million in fourth quarter 2013.
For 2014, total operating revenues increased 5.1 percent to $18.6 billion, and total operating expenses were $16.4 billion, resulting in record operating income of $2.2 billion, compared with $1.3 billion in operating income for 2013. For 2014, special charges (before profitsharing and taxes) associated with the acquisition and integration of AirTran were $126 million. Cumulative costs associated with the acquisition and integration of AirTran, as of December 31, 2014, totaled $536 million (before profitsharing and taxes). The Company expects total acquisition and integration costs to be approximately $550 million (before profitsharing and taxes) upon completing the transition of AirTran 717-200s out of the fleet in 2015. Excluding special items, operating income was a record $2.4 billion for 2014, compared with $1.4 billion for 2013.
Balance Sheet and Cash Flows
As of January 21, 2015, the Company had approximately $3.1 billion in cash and short-term investments, and a fully available unsecured revolving credit line of $1 billion. Net cash provided by operations during fourth quarter 2014 was $203 million, and capital expenditures were $467 million. For 2014, net cash provided by operations was $2.90 billion, capital expenditures were $1.75 billion, and assets constructed for others, net of reimbursements, were $53 million, resulting in free cash flow of approximately $1.1 billion. The Company currently estimates its 2015 capital expenditures will be in the $1.6 billion to $1.7 billion range. The Company repaid $561 million in debt and capital lease obligations during 2014, and is currently scheduled to repay approximately $180 million in debt and capital lease obligations during 2015.
During fourth quarter 2014, pursuant to an accelerated share repurchase (ASR) program executed during the quarter, the Company returned $200 million to its Shareholders through the repurchase of 3.8 million shares of common stock, representing an estimated 75 percent of the shares the Company expects to purchase under the ASR program. The specific number of shares that the Company ultimately will repurchase under the ASR program will be determined generally based on a discount to the volume-weighted average price per share of the Company's common stock during a calculation period to be completed during first quarter 2015. At settlement, under certain circumstances, the third party financial institution may be required to deliver additional shares of common stock to the Company, or under certain circumstances, the Company may be required to deliver shares of its common stock or may elect to make a cash payment to the third party financial institution. During fourth quarter 2014, the Company also received the remaining 1.1 million shares pursuant to the third quarter 2014 $200 million ASR program, bringing the total shares repurchased under that ASR program to 6.1 million. In 2014, the Company returned $1.1 billion to its Shareholders through $139 million in dividends, and the repurchase of $955 million in common stock, or 33 million shares. The Company has $380 million remaining under its existing $1 billion share repurchase authorization.
Fleet
During 2014, the Company's fleet decreased by 16 to 665 aircraft at the end of 2014. This reflects the delivery of 33 new Boeing 737-800s and 22 pre-owned Boeing 737-700s, as well as the retirement of five Boeing 737 Classic aircraft. This also reflects the remaining 66 AirTran 717-200s being removed from service during 2014. As of the end of 2014, the Company had converted 47 of the 52 AirTran 737-700s to the Southwest livery with Evolve configuration with the remaining five in conversion. For 2015, the Company continues to manage to a baseline of roughly 700 aircraft and an approximate six percent year-over-year increase in ASMs. Additional information regarding the company's aircraft delivery schedule is included in the accompanying tables.

Brent crude oil average market prices as of January 16, 2015, were approximately $51 and $55 per barrel for first quarter 2015 and full year 2015, respectively.
(2)
The economic fuel price per gallon sensitivities provided assume the relationship between Brent crude oil and refined products based on market prices as of January 16, 2015.
(3)
In response to the precipitous decline in oil and jet fuel prices during the second half of 2014, the Company took action to offset its 2015 and 2018 fuel derivative portfolios and is now effectively unhedged at current price levels. While the Company still holds derivative contracts as of December 31, 2014, that will settle during 2015 and 2018, the majority of the losses associated with those contracts are substantially locked in. However, if market prices were to increase or decrease significantly related to the 2015 positions prior to these contracts settling, the losses incurred at settlement could be slightly lower or higher than currently expected amounts during that period.

NOTE REGARDING USE OF NON-GAAP FINANCIAL MEASURES
The Company's unaudited consolidated financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP. These GAAP financial statements include (i) unrealized non-cash adjustments and reclassifications, which can be significant, as a result of accounting requirements and elections made under accounting pronouncements relating to derivative instruments and hedging and (ii) other charges the Company believes are not indicative of its ongoing operational performance.
As a result, the Company also provides financial information in this release that was not prepared in accordance with GAAP and should not be considered as an alternative to the information prepared in accordance with GAAP. The Company provides supplemental non-GAAP financial information, including results that it refers to as "economic," which the Company's management utilizes to evaluate its ongoing financial performance and the Company believes provides greater transparency to investors as supplemental information to its GAAP results. The Company's economic financial results differ from GAAP results in that they only include the actual cash settlements from fuel hedge contracts--all reflected within Fuel and oil expense in the period of settlement. Thus, Fuel and oil expense on an economic basis reflects the Company's actual net cash outlays for fuel during the applicable period, inclusive of settled fuel derivative contracts. Any net premium costs paid related to option contracts are reflected as a component of Other (gains) losses, net, for both GAAP and non-GAAP (including economic) purposes in the period of contract settlement. The Company believes these economic results provide a better measure of the impact of the Company's fuel hedges on its operating performance and liquidity since they exclude the unrealized, non-cash adjustments and reclassifications that are recorded in GAAP results in accordance with accounting guidance relating to derivative instruments, and they reflect all cash settlements related to fuel derivative contracts within Fuel and oil expense. This enables the Company's management, as well as investors, to consistently assess the Company's operating performance on a year-over-year or quarter-over-quarter basis after considering all efforts in place to manage fuel expense. However, because these measures are not determined in accordance with GAAP, such measures are susceptible to varying calculations and not all companies calculate the measures in the same manner. As a result, the aforementioned measures, as presented, may not be directly comparable to similarly titled measures presented by other companies.
Further information on (i) the Company's fuel hedging program, (ii) the requirements of accounting for derivative instruments, and (iii) the causes of hedge ineffectiveness and/or mark-to-market gains or losses from derivative instruments is included in the Company's Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2013.
In addition to its "economic" financial measures, as defined above, the Company has also provided other non-GAAP financial measures, including results that it refers to as "excluding special items," as a result of items that the Company believes are not indicative of its ongoing operations. These include expenses associated with the Company's acquisition and integration of AirTran and collective bargaining contract ratification bonuses. The Company believes that evaluation of its financial performance can be enhanced by a presentation of results that exclude the impact of these items in order to evaluate the results on a comparative basis with results in prior periods that do not include such items and as a basis for evaluating operating results in future periods. As a result of the Company's acquisition of AirTran, which closed on May 2, 2011, the Company has incurred substantial charges associated with integration of the two companies. Given that the AirTran integration process had been effectively completed as of December 31, 2014, the Company does not anticipate significant future integration expenditure requirements. However, to the extent the Company does incur integration charges in future periods, it does expect to treat the charges as special items in its future presentation of non-GAAP results.
The Company has also provided free cash flow and ROIC, which are non-GAAP financial measures. The Company believes free cash flow is a meaningful measure because it demonstrates the Company's ability to service its debt, pay dividends and make investments to enhance Shareholder value. Although free cash flow is commonly used as a measure of liquidity, definitions of free cash flow may differ; therefore, the Company is providing an explanation of its calculation for free cash flow. For the year ended December 31, 2014, the Company generated $1.10 billion in free cash flow, calculated as operating cash flows of $2.90 billion less capital expenditures of $1.75 billion less assets constructed for others of $80 million plus reimbursements for assets constructed for others of $27 million. The Company believes ROIC is a meaningful measure because it quantifies how well the Company generates operating income relative to the capital it has invested in its business. Although ROIC is commonly used as a measure of capital efficiency, definitions of ROIC may differ; therefore, the Company is providing an explanation of its calculation for ROIC (before taxes and excluding special items) in the accompanying reconciliation tables to the press release (See Return on Invested Capital).

Southwest Airlines adds Leinenkugel's® seasonal craft beers and Dos Equis Lager Especial to onboard offerings
Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) announced today that two new beers will be taking to the skies. The airline will stock Leinenkugel's seasonal craft beers in addition to Dos Equis Lager Especial onboard every flight with a price point of $5 or a valid Southwest Business Select or Rapid Rewards drink coupon per beer. And it's not just beer that's taking off—Southwest Airlines is also transitioning to honey roasted peanuts that Customers can enjoy throughout 2015.
"We're always striving to improve our Customer experience onboard, and the addition of these two beers gives our Customers unique options while on our flights," said Mike Hafner, Southwest Airlines Vice President Cabin Services. "Dos Equis is the perfect beer to complement our new international service, and Customers will be able to sit back and enjoy Leinenkugel's seasonal offerings."
Leinenkugel's will be the first beer Southwest offers on a rotating seasonal basis. Each season, the airline will replace its offerings with the current seasonal beer from the Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin brewery. Carrier Obtains Rights to Two Additional Gates at Dallas Love Field, New Flights to Begin in April 2015
Southwest Airlines® (NYSE: LUV) today answered the call of the many thousands of air travel consumers who have benefited from lower fares and the convenience of long-distance flying from Dallas Love Field by announcing it will add new destinations with more nonstop flights made possible by acquiring the rights to two additional Love Field gates.
The new flights will be made possible through a long-term sub-lease agreement that will transfer usage of two gates in the newly rebuilt 20-gate facility from United Airlines to Southwest Airlines. Terms of the deal are confidential. The transaction was reviewed and cleared without conditions by the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division. The City of Dallas, the owner and operator of Love Field, also has approved the sublease.

With a commemorative salute, AirTran Airways final flight from Atlanta to Tampa Bay marks new era for Southwest Airlines as integration nears completion This release contains: 1 Related Document, 11 Photos, 1 Video Southwest Airlines® (NYSE: LUV) embarked on a new era today as it celebrated the last AirTran Airways revenue flight. At 10:25pm EST, AirTran Airways Flight 1 departed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Tampa Bay International Airport.
"With this special flight, we are celebrating history and setting our sights on a bright future for all of Southwest Airlines," said Bob Jordan, Southwest Airlines' Chief Commercial Officer and AirTran Airways President, who was on the flight to Tampa. "The work of so many People culminates in this moment as we salute the enormous accomplishments of AirTran and Southwest. For our Customers and Employees, we now move forward with one airline, one Customer Experience, one flight schedule, one Rapid Rewards frequent flyer program, and one award-winning Brand."
More than 400 AirTran and Southwest Employees and special guests gathered in Atlanta Sunday evening to commemorate the milestone. AirTran Flight 1 retraced a route that is a nod to AirTran's first commercial flight in October 1993. Flight 1's flight crew consisted of longtime AirTran Employees, including the airline's Chief Pilot, Floy Ponder, a 19-year veteran of AirTran Airways. Each of the flight's 117 passengers, consisting of many former AirTran Employees, retirees, special guests, and aviation enthusiasts received a special keepsake celebrating the historic flight.
"As we've grown in both the domestic and international markets, I can't help but think about all the doors the AirTran acquisition has opened for Southwest Airlines," said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines Chairman, President & CEO, who was in Atlanta for the send-off. "The most important things—which cannot be measured and are irreplaceable—are the great People of AirTran who have worked hard to achieve this milestone, and are all soon to be part of the Southwest Airlines family."
The acquisition of AirTran was a unique opportunity to extend the Southwest network into key markets it didn't yet serve, such as Atlanta and the greater Washington, D.C., area, via Ronald Reagan National Airport. The integration gives Southwest the opportunity to serve Customers from 93 airports in the U.S. and near-international destinations, providing Customers more low-fare destinations as it expands the well-known "Southwest Effect" to hundreds of additional low-fare itineraries for the traveling public.

Air Transport World selects Southwest for extraordinary and consistent standards of service, financial performance, safety, and environmental and corporate responsibility
Southwest Airlines® (NYSE: LUV) is the 2015 Airline of the Year, according to Air Transport World (ATW), a Penton company. In selecting Southwest as Airline of the Year, ATW editors cited Southwest's extraordinary and consistent standards of service, financial performance, safety, and environmental and corporate responsibility. In particular, for the first time in 14 years, Southwest achieved its 15 percent return on invested capital target, before taxes and excluding special items, reporting 17.1 percent1 for the twelve months ended June 30, 2014. Southwest remains the world's only airline that can claim 41 consecutive years of profitability. And, it has maintained the highest of standards through its merger-acquisition with AirTran Airways, marking Southwest's transition to serving international destinations.
"On behalf of the People of Southwest Airlines, I am delighted that our airline has been selected by ATW as Airline of the Year," said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines Chairman, President, and CEO. "This is a prestigious honor, and I am proud for all of our Employees. They have done an extraordinary job transforming Southwest over the past decade, which has culminated in a year of historic achievements. Because of their Warrior Spirits, Southwest now flies to international destinations; Dallas Love Field has been set free from the Wright Amendment; AirTran will be fully integrated in just days; and LUV has reached lifetime highs. We celebrated this year with a bold new look to our brand and aircraft livery. This award is, truly, icing on the cake!"
"CEO Gary Kelly's leadership has allowed the airline to become the USA's largest in terms of originating domestic passengers, as well as one of the world's safest airlines. With Gary at the helm, Southwest said goodbye to the Wright Amendment and hello to international destinations—massive milestones. All of this while delivering a financial performance that is the envy of airlines worldwide and customer service that is renowned for its hospitality. I sincerely congratulate Gary and the entire Southwest Airlines team," ATW editor-in-chief Karen Walker said.
The ATW awards will be officially presented by ATW Editors at a gala dinner in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 25, 2015.

Tuesday, December 16, TWU 555 (representing Southwest Airlines' Ramp, Operations, Provisioning, and Cargo Agents) launched a press release, media blitz, and organized picketing campaign in various locations across the network. Informational picketing is a common practice during negotiations and such action has not impacted our operations. We have always supported our Employees and their right to express their opinions. Furthermore, we share the Union's sense of urgency to secure an agreement that is fair to all Employees, enables the Company to grow, and protects our position as a low-cost leader in the industry.
Ramp, Operations, Provisioning, and Cargo Agents at Southwest have the highest pay rates in the industry. Agents with less than 12 years seniority continue to receive guaranteed annual raises. Our top-of-scale Agents have not only kept pace with the cost of living, but they continue to earn eight to 45 percent more than their counterparts at other airlines. From 2000 until now, during which time our competitors slashed pay and benefits, our base rates for our Employees have increased more than 37 percent.
We've made multiple offers to TWU 555 that have gone unaccepted or ignored. Our proposals would put more money in Employees' pockets immediately, improving individual compensation by thousands of dollars per year. In exchange for increased compensation, the Company is seeking more operational flexibility in a manner that safeguards Employees from negative impacts in a competitive industry – helping preserve and add more jobs in the future.

Open call for design concepts from Chicago-based artisans This release contains: 1 Related Document The University of Chicago's Arts + Public Life Initiative and its Office of Civic Engagement have received a grant from Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) to reimagine a vacant lot in Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood and transform it into an active community gathering place. This project, which is commissioning design and production proposals from local artists, is located directly across from the University of Chicago's Arts Incubator and will complement its focus on providing active and stimulating programming for people in South Side communities and throughout the Greater Chicago region.
This is the sixth project to be selected for a Heart of the Community grant. Thiscompetitive and collaborativeprogram, in partnership with Project for Public Spaces, supports and revitalizes public spaces in the hearts of cities nationwide.
The vision for the new space in Washington Park will be created in partnership with the local community through placemaking – a movement and process rooted in community-based participation that involves the planning, design, management and programming of public spaces and capitalizes on a community's assets and potential to create vibrant destinations. Project for Public Spaces (PPS), the pioneering nonprofit organization behind placemaking, facilitated a series of workshops and events with the community over the summer to develop the preliminary vision for the new public space.
As a continuation of this Placemaking work with PPS , the Arts + Public Life Initiative released a RFP for design and production concepts for a suite of outdoor furniture which will be used in the new space. The proposals, which are due on January 18, 2015, will be evaluated and a local artisan will be chosen to complete the project in spring of 2015.
"We admire the University of Chicago's efforts to leverage creativity and the arts to strengthen the local community," said Megan Lee, Senior Manager of Community Outreach at Southwest Airlines. "Southwest Airlines recognizes the power public spaces have to transform communities and is excited to support the efforts to revitalize this space in Chicago, a city we've been serving for nearly 30 years and our number one airport in terms of departures."
The Arts Incubator, which opened in 2013, is a vibrant center of artistic activity and public programming and has brought new life to Garfield Boulevard. It is now home to a residency program, which supports artists in all disciplines whose work will impact the city's cultural landscape, a design apprenticeship program for young people in the community and a rich array of public programs. Inspired by the vision of internationally recognized artist and urban planner Theaster Gates, director of Arts + Public Life at UChicago, the Incubator has already been the hub for dozens of events and thousands of attendees looking to further connect with the arts and their power to transform a community.
"My practice is rooted in the belief that the arts and culture can transform how we think about urban spaces, and drive change both by bringing in outside investment and by helping residents to reimagine what is possible in their communities," said Gates. "The Heart of the Community grant will bolster the work already underway at the Arts Incubator, and bring new energy and vitality to Washington Park."

Service between Houston and six destinations in three countries to begin in October 2015, subject to government approval: Cancun, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico; San Jose, Costa Rica; and Belize City, Belize This release contains: 1 Related Document
Southwest Airlines® (NYSE: LUV) filed applications today with the U.S. Department of Transportation requesting approval to serve six destinations in Latin America with new, daily, nonstop service from William P. Hobby Airport in Houston. After receiving U.S. government approval of the new service, Southwest will begin selling these flights at Southwest.com, offering Customers nonstop options between Houston (Hobby) and four destinations in Mexico—Cancun, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, and San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos—as well as flights to San Jose, Costa Rica, and Belize City, Belize. Service to Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City, Belize, adds a second destination in Central America, a seventh country, and the 96th city on the Southwest route map.
The new Houston flights will be made possible by the completion of an estimated $156 million five-gate international concourse now under construction at Hobby. The completed project will increase capacity for all airport functions and add a Federal Inspections Services (FIS) facility to streamline U.S. Customs and Border Protection screening and baggage processing for arriving international passengers.
"We're building our first-ever international terminal project to give Houstonians, visitors to Houston, and our connecting Customers exceptional value and legendary Customer Service in international markets for which there is great demand," said Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines Chairman, President, and CEO. "Service to Mexico will be the cornerstone of our international operation at Hobby and the four cities we are announcing today provide exciting travel and business options for consumers. Adding Belize to the Southwest network and growing our Costa Rica service continues our expansion to international destinations where our People and consumer-friendly policies can deliver as no other airline can."
The Houston Hobby International Terminal Project will add five new gates, enabling scheduled international service from Hobby. Southwest is working in conjunction with the City of Houston, which is preparing for the new facility with surrounding infrastructure improvements including a new parking facility, central utility plant and roadway improvements throughout the Houston Hobby Airport district. A study conducted by Houston Airport System estimates the Houston Hobby International Terminal Project would add 10,000 jobs to the region and provide a $1.6 billion impact annually to the local economy. The study also expects the expanded facility to bring an additional 1.6 million air travelers each year.
Southwest is currently selling nonstop service on Saturdays between Houston (Hobby) and Queen Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad, Aruba beginning March 7, 2015. The Aruba flights are made possible by U.S. CBP Pre-clearance procedures, which provide U.S. border inspection in certain foreign countries including Aruba. This will allow Southwest Customers arriving at Hobby Airport from Aruba to deplane without further CBP inspections into the domestic terminal, quickly claim baggage and depart the airport, or make seamless connections to many of the more than 40 domestic destinations Southwest currently serves nonstop from Houston (Hobby).
One of Southwest Airlines' original cities, Houston supports the fifth busiest operation in the carrier's network of more than 90 airports across six countries, with approximately 150 departures a day from Houston (Hobby). More than 3,200 Southwest Employees are Houston-based and foster community and business partnerships across greater Houston that, in 2013 alone, bolstered nearly 170 nonprofit organizations with more than $900,000 in local charitable donations.
