Can someone explain how your family is being separated (if your family size is less than six) as a result of the "open boarding" system if your family is standing in line one member standing behind another member? Are a lot of you not doing a good job keeping your family together when the "boarding announcements" begin at the gate podium? Don't all members of a family get the same letter when they check-in?

I wish that both past (San Diego) and current (San Antonio) could have been filmed and posted as a "YouTube" video, so we can see and get the full flavor
of each of the methods. The San Antonio method places connecting passengers at an advantage and those who are flying out of PHX, MDW, LAS, HOU, you will notice that you won't get your A-1 even if you are logging in 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds before your flight. Example: If I'm flying to Austin from Sacramento and I select "1131/125 PHX/1" I will be picking off your A-1 (on Flight 125 Phoenix to Austin) at 10:55 AM as a connecting passenger from Sacramento.

We are now about 4 weeks before the one year anniversary of this topic. Is IAD living up to Southwest's expectations to this point. Will Southwest be getting a third gate? Will they move up to number of departures to about 20?
With the election season coming up will we start seeing Dulles to/from Manchester non-stops? Or will most Southwest's growth come when "Dulles 2" is completed?

Just looked at Southwest Vacations and noticed that there are three packages available. One notable problem. All three packages ran
the air portion of the package through BWI not IAD. I understand
that they (Southwest Vacations) are NOT a company owned or
controlled by Southwest Airlines but don't you think they should
be encouraged to run packages through IAD?

Hi Ray, I just finish watching coverage of the Space Shuttle launch tonight and made a note of when the launch occured and then went to Flightaware
and checked to see if there were and Canyon Blue and Red Boeing 737s in the area. I noticed that there were two good candidates. One is Flight 1705 which took off from Orlando at 6:35 PM CDT (3 minutes before launch) and was 10,000 ft above the Econlockhatchee River Swamp area (28.32 degrees N and 81.08 degrees W) at 6:38 PM CDT (the time of liftoff). The other Flight in the area was flight 1326 which took off from Fort Lauderdale at 6:10 PM CDT for Long Island. This flight was 35,000 feet above and area near Winter Park (28.58 degrees N 81.37 degrees W). My short question is do you think either of these two flights had a view from the window seat of a Boeing 737-700 of the Space Shuttle launch?

The reason why you get questions about Southwest going to Mexico was because earlier this quarter there was media speculation about that. I'm guessing that the service would have been through ATA (they go to Cancun but this is not currently SWA codeshare supported). Keep up the great work. Regarding checking in, are the only two methods still either showing in person or going online or is there another method that doesn't involve you guys (since you said earlier that you don't). See you in OAK on Halloween.

Just tried to add SFO to my "list of up to 10 airports" for DING earlier today, SFO's not there yet. When will SFO be "live" on DING? I wouldn't expect an SFO-BWI nonstop until at least another OAK-BWI nonstop is added first. Also, when can we expect an announcement for additional service for IAD?

Just got done reading the New York TImes about a "Super GrandMa" who uses Southwest to get the job done. She flys up on Flight 2 on Tuesdays and returns on Flight 53 on Wednesdays every week. If this super Grandma were to take full advantage of her frequency of flying she would be getting a "Rapid Reward" every 8 weeks. And if she plans far enough ahead, she can (including her awards) fly for 60 weeks for just over $6,000 including all junk fees. Very Impressive.

With the weather currently 7:17 PM CDT) 0017z 050307) approaching Love Field, The question I had was how much extra fuel do you guys allow on your HOU-DAL runs in case you have to circle for an extended amount of time. See Flightaware tracks of SWA48, 53, and 50 for May 2nd illustrate that they had to circle for a while.

Another great post Ray, looking over both posts reveals that you bid to be up with the roosters rather than the night owls. This time of the year I don't blame you for bidding for the earlier legs of the day. Looks like if I'm going to stand a chance of flying with you I'd better book a 6 something (AM) flight if you overnight here. Continue to keep the red side down.

Jim, the "DUNKS" portion of your question is the name of the procedure from the departing airport. The PMM, OBK, IOW, STJ, FTI, and ZUN are either airports or locations of navigational beacons. STJ (is St Joesph, MO) IOW (is Iowa City, IA) , ZUN (is Zuni, NM) OBK, PMM, and FTI are codes for naviagational beacons. The "EAGUL1" portion is the name of the procedure for the arriving airport. The whole thing is the flight plan. Captain Starks in a blog called "what's your vector, Victor?" answers what the J70, J94, and J18 mean. But in summary, its the flight plan for this evening's flight 890 from Detroit to Phoenix. Which this evening tookoff from Detroit at 4:40 PM CDT and has an current ETA of 8:47 PM CDT in Phoenix.
