i will be sure to say hello... yes walking on land was a joy. One day down the road i will be able to say "we are heading home." As for now the work continues and its well worth it. I believe our country will be better off for the sacrifices our troops are making over here. have a good weekend..

I enjoy calling you guys. Last December when i was going home on leave for Christmas our ship arrived early. I wanted to fly home that day the only problem was there were no more flights available. The reservation agent did everything possible to assist me in getting home. I enjoy being on hold and hearing those funny voices.... GO RESERVATIONS!!!!!!!!

Mr. Zaho,
I am not sure what you mean when you say don't "predetermine" or we might pose a bigger threat to civilians than our enemies. No one likes war, especially me. But if you look back at our countries history we started out fighting for our freedom. This is why many of us joined the military so that we as a country can continue to live in freedom and hopefully other people in this world can enjoy the same freedoms that we have.

TO ALL:
For the past few days I will have to admit that I had some anger in my heart towards those who decided to use this particular blog to beg for a job and to complain about assigned seating. While i don't blame someone for wanting to work at Southwest or if a customer was inconvinenced then by all means voice your concerns. This is one of the reasons why we fight for our country so that we may all speak freely. But we are a nation at war. All we ask is that for one day out of the year we can all reflect on those who have given their lives all so that we may live in total freedom. I think of my good friend Dennis who left his wife and kids one cold morning and headed to Iraq not once but twice. I think of my two friends from our division who volunteered to go to Iraq to assist the Marines. I think about the parents of the fallen and what they must be going through when they recieve word that their loved one has died. I think about the people on our ship who have left loved ones back home, who won't get to see the birth of their first child, who recieve a red cross message that says they have lost a loved one, or perhaps we can think about those sailors who were barely waking up that one December morning at Pearl Harbor, their lives were gone in an instant. I think about our troops on the ground who continue to give it their all and do it without complaining. We need to all realize what we have in this Country. I want to personally thank all of those that continue to pray for us and our safe return. May God bless this great country of ours...

MR. ZHAO,
I can see your fustration but i am not sure how Southwest Airlines ruined your MEMORIAL WEEKEND? With all due respect to you sir, Memorial day is a time to reflect on all of the brave men and women who have fought and died for this country. As a member of the military i would love to trade places with you, perhaps you could come out here in the 120 degree temperature and i could go over there and wait 45 minutes in air conditioning for my plane to arrive. We take so much for granted yet we have so much to be thankful for. While the assigned seating policy can be a hassle to some, Southwest Airlines isn't like the rest of the industry. No company is perfect but Southwest truly values their customers and their employees. I am sure they did not intend to ruin your weekend...

Phil,
thanks for sharing. 150 miles!!! You guys must be in great shape. You guys did it for a great cause. I am sorry to hear about your team members mom. Congrats on finishing. One of my favorite charities is the Navy Marine corps relief society. Just the other day one of our guys grandma passed away. He was allowed to go home but imagine purchasing a plane ticket from the middle east to SAN at the last minute.. The relief society bought the ticket for the sailor.

John,
This was a happy birthday story not a why doesn't Southwest e-mail kind of story. It is the 21st century, however i must say i enjoy getting a personal letter from Southwest than some system wide apology letter. Not that they owe me an apology for anything... We should all be grateful that they do things different.. mmm like putting their employees and customers first. as far as e-bay goes... the ad must stay... it serves as a reminder that we are free to move about the country...

Nice pictures of SAN!!!!!! Oh i miss that view, especially when you are flying in on a good day. It would seem that landing in SAN would be a bit tricky, especially with the marine layer and the fog. in addition to that the runway seems small... but i guess that is why you are a pilot and i am not. next time you fly into San Diego you can see the USS REAGAN on your left hand side... its parked in our pier...

My friend has a United "MILEAGE" Visa card... boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I give him a hard time. If he would only use Southwest rapid rewards "we reward you based on trips not miles" visa he could get back to the east coast faster. We travel a lot since we are both in the Navy, but for some reason i have already recieved two award tickets compared to his well zero.. :(

Greg,
I am by no means an expert, but usually when Southwest adds a new city they grow as they see fit. It is not wise to grow too fast because lets say they opened dulles with 100 flights and half of those flights were empty, Southwest would then be losing a lot of money and would have to raise fares across the system. Southwest likes to grow gradually so i would say be patient.
Mary J,
sorry to say but we do not rotate, i like my schedule the way it is. I am used to working nights now, if they changed me to days my sleep patterns would be destroyed. You are right i wish the media would report some of the good, but sadly they report the bad. Your father in law has my respect, the Navy was by all accounts difficult back then. They had it much harder than we do. I am sure he never heard about a blog back t hen.
Laurie,
i will pass on the word to my mom or you can. She luvs to e-mail.... she could use an e-mail friend when i am away her e-mail address is yoliefaith@msn.com .. thanks for your kind words

So proud to be a "Navy" mom! Way to go Mi Amor, oh I mean - USS Blog Boy. I'm so proud of you. I guess all those years of me being a drill sergeant (mean mom) has paid off huh? The way I see it, the only difference between a mom drill seargent and the officers you're under, after your mom has reprimanded you, you do get a hug and a I love you. With all kidding aside, I respect and admire you and our military so much. I can't thank you and our troops for all the sacrifices you are making for our freedoms. I'm so blessed that God gave your dad and me the opportunity to go out to sea with you on the USS Nimitz last September and to see first hand how you live and breathe the Navy. I thank the United States Navy for having family days and encourage families to try to experience this at least once. Although it's very difficult to say goodbye when you leave, for this deployment, we have more respect and understanding of what you and all the troops on the USS Nimitz go through. I encourage you to keep working hard, it's going to pay off in the long run. May God continue to bless and protect you and those around you. I miss you terribly (especially the laughter) and I love you very much. You're a great son!!!

ABQ IS ONLY WINDY DURING THE MONTHS OF MARCH, APRIL, AND EARLY MAY... THOSE MOUNTAINS YOU SPEAK OF ARE THE SANDIA MOUNTAINS. 🙂 NOW EVERYTIME I FLY FROM SAN TO ABQ WE ARE COMING FROM THE WEST AND I WOULD ASSUME THAT WE WOULD BE LANDING ON THE WEST-EAST RUNWAY, INSTEAD WE BANK RIGHT AND LINE UP TO LAND ON THE SOUTH NORTH RUNWAY WHICH I HATE BECAUSE THE VIEWS ARE NOT THAT GOOD.. WHAT GIVES? ALSO I NOTICE THAT MY EARS HURT THE MOST EVERYTIME I FLY INTO PHX, BUT NOT AS MUCH WHEN I FLY INTO SAN... WHAT GIVES?

Micah,
oh ye of little faith. I want to remind you that Jetblue has posted a loss the last few quarters, while Southwest has posted a profit for the past 35 odd years. why change something that has been working for so long? Also i want to remind you that Southwest hasn't had any layoffs, nor have the filed for bankrupcy. On top of that Southwest continues to have the lowest walk up fares in the industry. Their walk up fares are capped. Southwest continues to keep their costs low and yes they have raised their fares to offset the price of gas. But i want to remind everyone that we live in a pro-growth economy, prices will go up Has will hourly wages. Southwest carries more passengers than any other airline in the world all without having Direct TV onboard. As far as the load factor goes, think about how many daily flights Southwest offers compared to the other airlines and also think about how big Southwest fleet is. The other airlines have higher load factors because they have downsized their fleet and now offer less flights, yet the demand for air travel is stonger than ever.

gasp!!! Thanks for clearing that up for me.... yes we all have common sense, we as in those that fly this wonderful airline.. If you go to the blog that Brian mentioned, some people left some nasty comments about Southwest... They obviously enjoy being stranded on a runway for 8 hours..

The greatest generation that ever lived. I could not imagine all that these men had to endure. Everytime i watch a documentary on war world two i get choked up just seeing the great loss of life, and yet their perseverance to continue to defend our freedom. Our country has come along way when it comes to abolishing racism, but we still have ways to go. I salute these fine men, and i thank them for paving the way so that all of us can live in absolute freedom.
