Oh, Nona (or anyone), will I be taken off the list for stand-by after a certain number of flights, or do they keep me on until I ask that they take me off for that day? Okay, that's my last off-topic question (I hope!) Grin 🙂 By the way, I'll be flying from (& obviously back to) Tulsa.

Twice when I've flown, the pilots had to re-route while in the air because of a thunderstorm. Another time, when I was coming home from Peru, it started storming after we landed & taxied off the runway in Miami. I forgot all of a sudden where it hit, but lightning struck somewhere (I believe it was the radar), & the airport had to be temporarily shut down. All we could do, of course, was sit there where we were. Once the storm passed, the airport reopened, & we made it up to the gate to get off, go through customs, & board again. I love thunderstorms-I really do! 🙂

Hi, Judy, & thanks! I'm very determined & I agree, even though I don't yet work for SWA, that it's the best company to work for.
My parents have told the waiters/waitresses before that it was my birthday in restauarants at home & on vacation. They brought me out a birthday cake & sang to me. 🙂 Fun times, fun times! If I were flying on my birthday, I'd tell the FAs!
Judy, I have an off-topic question but want to ask while I'm thinking about it (anyone who knows can answer). I'm flying standy-by, round-trip, for my group info. session. I've seriously flown thousands of miles, but never stand-by. My letter told me what to do, & when I made my reservations, (I'm going the day before) I was told to check 2 days before on the status-which I'll certainly do. When I check in & get my transfer pass & documents, don't I just go up to the gate & go ahead & board the plane unless I'm told otherwise? I chose a morning flight going, so if I don't make that one, I have other options (including having my parents drive me down later in the day, just in case; I hope that doesn't happen!); coming home the next day, I chose the last flight out. I'm prepared to stay an additional night, JIC-Just In Case!

I'm curious about that, too! My 30th birthday is this month-it really is! I'm flying Southwest again next week, but it won't be on my birthday; I'll be attending a group info. session in Dallas for flight attendant position, which I'm seriously more excited about than I am my own birthday!

Thanks for the tips, Robert. That helps. I heard that after the group interviews, they'll be doing one-on-one interviews, too; even if I'm not asked to stay then, it doesn't mean that I won't be called back. I was told it could be 2-4 weeks. I've thought it would be neat if I got a letter or call on my 30th birthday, which is July 26th, asking me back for a second interview. That would be a nice birthday present! It will be nice, though, if I get asked to stay that day, too. 🙂

I cannot wait until the day comes when I become part of the Southwest family! I haven't even been asked back for flight attendant training yet-I have a group information session in Dallas on July 13th, so I know it will be awhile before training-but I'm continuing to think positively; I imagine myself as part of the SWA family everyday! 🙂

Congratulations, Darlene! I received a letter today inviting me to attend a Group Information Session for Flight Attendant position July 13th in Dallas! I seriously don't know how I can sleep tonight, I'm so excited! I interviewed with SWA in 1999 & had both group & one-on-one interviews; unfortunately, I didn't do well enough with the second one to be asked back for training. If you have any helpful tips for m, please share them. Again, congratulations! Maybe we'll work together someday!

I thought of one I could say when I'm an FA, & that is (when we arrive at the gate), "Okay, let's make like a banana & split!" Ha, ha. 🙂

In addition to sending a card & poem to Company Headquarters, I went to my home airport late afternoon on SWA's birthday with some goodies & the same poem. One of the awesome, LUVing CSA's showed me around, including the gate they had decorated! She & another CSA gave me some cool things, such as a copy of Spirit magazine with the article about your 35th birthday, a commemorative Coke bottle in a cute box, a pair of wings with "Southwest Airlines, 1971-2006, 35 years of LUVin' you" on it, two pens, & a package of playing cards! I also have pictures of me with these two CSA's, as well as at the gate! It was so much fun! By the way, the names of these two CSA's are Shannon W. & Jennifer S. :)
Southwest LUV & mine, always!

Even though I'm not yet ( but hopefully will be; I'm thinking positively still!) a SW flight attendant, I agree it's harder than it looks. I imagine there are many people out there who think all they do is the safety demonstration & pass out drinks & peanuts. When I helped serve peanuts on a recent flight home, I started serving in row 7 on the first flight, but don't remember now if I stopped after a few rows, knowing that the last several had already been served, or if I went clear to the back; on the second flight, the FA had me start in row 3 (which is where I sat again), & even though I could tell which rows had been served as I got closer to the back, I still asked if they wanted more. I did this by myself on both flights, too!

I was on a flight home from AUS in March, with a plane change in DAL. One of the flight attendants on the flight from DAL home said as we were just about to the gate, "On your mark, get set..." Then he said when we stopped, "Like your mom said when you're 18, get your bags and get out!" Also, the pilots were having fun too, making funny noises in the cockpit. I could hear them over the PA system.

I fly frequently (I've flown thousands of miles, seriously!) & only twice have I experienced bad turbulence; both experiences were several years ago. The first time it happened, my parents & I were flying home from Chicago, & we had a rather bumpy take-off! I don't remember if the pilot was able to bring us out of it, or if it just stopped. The second time, I was flying home from Baltimore & changed planes in Atlanta. On the flight home from Atlanta, we had some bad turbulence for a little while. After I got back, I saw lightning off to the west when my parents & I were leaving the airport. Not long after we arrived home, it started storming. My mom said I made it home between storms, so I bet that explains the turbulence.

I wish I could fly Southwest everywhere I go! Believe me, when I have a choice, I fly Southwest. It really is a fun airline, & definitely my favorite. I'm trying again to get on with them as a flight attendant. I know it is hard work, but I'm not afraid of that! Plus, I LUV to have fun, laugh, smile, & be the very outgoing person I am! I know I will have so much fun, & I can't wait until they day comes when I'm wearing my flight attendant "uniform" (aka khakis & polos) & my wings with my name on them. I'm determined for my long time dream & goal of this happening to come true! 🙂

I should have added this to my comment earlier, but last summer, I was flying home from Baltimore (not on Southwest, though I could have & should have; not that the airline I flew is terrible, but Southwest is my favorite!). On my flight from BWI to DAL, a mother & her early elementary age looking daughter sat across the aisle from me. After we landed & taxied off the runway, this girl unfastened her seat belt & stood up on the floor between her seat & the one in front of hers. I don't think the Captain had yet made his announcement to keep selt belts fastened, but the mother never told her daughter to sit down & buckle up! That irritated me, & I wish we had been sitting close enough for the flight attendants to see it & say something!
This question may be off topic, but how many of you flight attendants serve Deaf customers? I sign (my BA is in Deaf Services with a Sign Language interpreting minor; plus, my church has a Sunday School class for Deaf & Hard of Hearing that I'm a member of & we have an interpreter who comes twice a month to interpret Sunday School & the second worship service at 11:00), & I hope to serve some Deaf customers when I become an FA!

I fly a lot & really, really LUV it, & I notice that a lot of passengers-Customers-don't watch the safety demonstration.
Even though flying doesn't scare me, I still always watch. As for me, my two pet
peeves when flying are when Customers don't watch the safety demo, & when they unbuckle their
seat belts before we've arrived at the gate & the Captain has turned off the fasten seat belt sign.
This message has been brought to you by a future Southwest flight attendant!
Southwest LUV!

One of the many SWA items I have is the video, "The Just Plane Fun Shuffle, " which I seriously have memorized! I read in my book Nuts! (which I know was written several years ago) that they show that video to new hires. I've been wondering if they still do. If so, someone will have to tie me down to a chair & tape my mouth shut because if not, I will be up dancing & mouthing the lines the whole time; I do that at home, but live alone so my parents obviously don't see me! That may sound silly, but it's hard for me just to sit & watch it, & not mouth the lines & dance!
"Greeted with a smile, and we give them the facts!" "Serve em drinks and pass out the snacks!" "We show them what's safe and what to do if it's bumpy," "Have pillows and blankets to help em get comfy!" "After we arrive, we leave them with a smile, come back for more fun, Southwest style!" "Yow!" That's from the video.
**I meant to say I just have to prove to the airline I can!
