Oh, wow; yes, that is cool! I remember him from Full House, but rarely see pictures of him now. Do you ever get autographs? Maybe when I'm an FA, I'll see &/or serve some famous people & get their autographs & pictures!

I was born & raised in a big city in northeastern Oklahoma, but went to finish college in a small town about 2 hours (south & very slightly west) from home. Not counting college students, there are close to 16,000 in this college town. I also worked a temporary job in a small town, about two hours west from home. This town has a little over 47,000 people. There are two college branch campuses, but I don't think the population includes them. I've gone back to both places a few times since college graduation & moving back to my home town.
I have an aunt & uncle (my dad's sister & brother-in-law) who live in a very small community in the northwestern part of Oklahoma. My dad grew up in this same community, too. The only two buildings (besides houses) in this community now are the church where my aunt & uncle are members (I've been there, too, because I'm friends with their minister) & Fellowship Hall, which is right across the road. When I go to their house, I drive past the church & on a bridge over 2 railroad tracks; I see a few houses along the way, but other than that, that's it!

Hi, Nancy. I live in Oklahoma, but cannot be based out of my hometown. SWA has 7 flight attendant bases. They are Baltimore, Chicago Midway, Orlando, Dallas, Houston, Phoneix, & Oakland. I hope that answers that question, but I'm not sure if it does! Sorry if it doesn't. Here is what I can tell you about probation: The probation period for Flight Attendants is six months & begins upon completion of Initial Flight Attendant Training. Get to know your Supervisor-go into the office & introduce yourself. For the first month you will get a line (schedule) that cannot be altered. The next five months you will be on reserve status. You will be able to change your Base once during probation, but the Base must have available openings. You will be allowed only one occurence on probation. (An occurence can equal a sick call, no show, tardiness, test failure, or unable to contact while on reserve.)

Scott, I read an article in the newspaper about a SW plane that had to make an unscheduled landing in TUL (my hometown) because a passenger (Customer) stabbed another passenger with a ballpoint pen! This was on Flight 396 from LAS to LIT. According to the newspaper, the FBI said that the victim was treated by emergency medical personnel & released. It also says that it appears the assault was unprovoked, & that authorities "met the flight, and once the men were questioned by authorities, the flight continued on to Little Rock."
This made me start thinking of questions that I might be asked at my second interview, such as, "What would you do if-insert incident-happens?" & how I will answer. I may have been asked questions like that 7 years ago but don't remember. I certainly realize I'll be dealing with Customers who are great & sometimes ones who aren't on their best behavior, but this is not stopping me from wanting to be a flight attendant! In fact, one reason why I want to work for Southwest is that the airline has an excellent safety record!
I remember when I was coming home from Peru 7 years ago, & my plane had landed in Miami, where I had to go through customs. After reboarding the plane, we were taxiing out to the runway when the pilot came on & said something was wrong with the plane; I don't remember what it was, but it was serious enough to go back to the gate & have it fixed. I don't remember exactly how long it took, though it was a while, but then we were finally on our way to DAL to change planes! I actually missed my connection in DAL, partly because of that incident, but there was also a storm not long after we landed in Miami; the lightning hit the radar, I believe, & the airport had to be shut down for a while. I caught the last flight out of DAL that night!

Ha, ha! I've been wondering lately how some of these cities get the codes they do-for example, Orlando's being MCO! Now I see. I have quite a few memorized (& I'll keep practicing those, of course), but am working on memorizing the others so I'll be ready! :)
P.S. Richard, the senior minister at my church graduated from SMU, but I know it was before you did!

Some things I've done this summer are volunteer work at 3 camps for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, & CODA (Children of Deaf Adults) kids & teens, volunteer work at TSHA, Inc., I celebrated my 30th birthday last week, & I'm saving the best for last, which is flying Southwest to Dallas to attend my group interview last month, & I'm doing the same this month, this time to attend my one-on-one! Flying Southwest & attending my interviews are definitely the highlights of my summer; not that the other things I've done have been bad-they're not.
Who knows, Carinne & Nicholas, maybe one day I'll serve you on a Southwest flight! Carinne, my parents & I love Philadelphia!

I'm sorry Adam, but I don't know! 😞 I wish I did! Surely they stay at one close by.
Adam, can you tell me how long you waited after your one-on-one to hear whether or not you were going back for training? I wish you well, & I'm sure you & your class will do great! Have fun! 🙂

Can anyone tell me the age limit on when you can apply to be a SWA FA? What I mean is, how old is too old to apply? I know a lady who used to want to be one (she knows about my interviews), & I told her they're hiring now! I think she's worried that she's too old; I don't know her age, but I doubt she's too old.

You're welcome, Nancy! I know a flight attendant who commutes, & it is an hour long flight from her home city to her base. Here is some information I have from my group interview on commuting: Commuting is when you live in one city but are based out of another city. If you choose to commute, remember you will be traveling standby to your Base city. (Many of our flights are full, especially during weekends & holidays). During probation, it is highly suggested that you live in your Base city.

Andrew, Southwest Airlines is really the best! It is my favorite out of all the airlines I fly. I'm going for my goal again to be a flight attendant for this Company, & it's a dream & determination I've had since elementary school.

Nancy, I really don't think 42 years old is too old to become a flight attendant! There was a retired school teacher at my group interview for FA position this month; I'm not saying she's old. Go for it! It's been my dream to be a Southwest flight attendant since elementary school.
To those who begin FA training Monday, I wish you well!

That's very kind of Linda to do that! I participate in Race for the Cure every year & have quite a bit of pink ribbon merchandise. I save & certainly still wear my shirts from the Races, & I have a Fight Breast Cancer license plate. I don't have breast cancer, but a great grandmother of mine was a 20 plus year survivor of it; it was not what she died from. This employee will make it! I'll keep her in my thoughts & prayers. Linda, if you read this, thank you! You're very kind & compassionate.

Theresa, yes, you should keep on trying. When I didn't get asked back for training after my one-on-one for FA seven years ago, it was awhile before I got over my disappointment; I finally did, though!

I'm sorry if this is off topic, but can anyone tell me how long I should expect to wait after my second interview to see if I'm invited back for training? I'm just curious. Things have changed (though they're certainly not bad!) since I interviewed for (SWA) FA position 7 years ago.

I fly a lot & notice people who don't pay attention to the safety demonstration. That really irritates me! I always pay attention to it.
I bet there are people out there who think all flight attendants do is perform the safety demonstration & serve peanuts/pretzels & drinks; they're wrong!
Even though I'm not yet an SWA FA, I know it's a hard job; it's still what I want to do as my career! This is what I will be from the day I'm hired until the day I have to retire!

I was feeling creative again recently & came up with another poem about some of Southwest's history; I feel like it's more of a rhyme than it is a poem, actually, but here it is:
On the 18th day of June 1971, Southwest Airlines began to fly, with service to Dallas, Houston, & San Antonio,
three planes high in the sky.
Southwest's service later grew, along with an increase in planes & crew, and to more & more cities, more airplanes flew.
There is certainly never any need to frown, as from 1992-1996, Southwest won its yearly Triple Crown!
With Southwest's Positively Outrageous Service, there is absolutely no reason to be nervous!
Ever since I've first flown Southwest, I've known, without a doubt, that this airline is the best!
Southwest LUV & mine!

I will call Monday to check the availability, & even if it's full, I'll still show up for that flight (unless I'm told otherwise)-just in case. I've heard that since it's in the morning & the middle of the week, it shouldn't be too bad; two of my friends said that.
