The "Fly By Security Lanes" are great for frequent solo flyers. This is NOT
for family travel because the spouse and children of Business Select or
A-1's can't go with them UNLESS the entire family pays the Business Select
fare.

I notice you often fly "when the airline is sleeping" to both PAE (Paine Field) and DHN (Dothan, AL) . Are these where the "outside" maintenance is done? Are there additional "outside" mantainance bases I don't know about?

Happy Friday, it looks like Southwest has resumed full operations at Houston, an incredible recovery given the circumstances. I hope you are able to help those in Galveston "get away" since they can't as yet go back to their properties yet.

Yes, it would be very nice that if HOU becomes unavailable for an extended time that you could keep your "Wanna Get Away" rate if you move your reservation to AUS or SAT, or if MSY becomes unavailable to move your reservation to JAN or BHM and keep you "Wanna Get Away" rate, or if FLL becomes unavailable to move your reservation to a different Florida airport and keep your "Wanna Get Away" rate. However, this is not realisitic in the Houston case because Austin and San Antonio have LOWER frequencies than Houston and cannot support the 20,000 people per day that were inconvienced. If they would have allowed Houston customers to move to Austin or San Antonio at "Wanna Get Away" rates because of airport unavailability they would have in effect caused both markets to be locked up (full flights for days). In this envirorment, Southwest could not afford just to give away money. They were already losing money ($2 million per full day) each day the Houston airport was completely closed, they are continuing to lose 6 figures per day from their current "limited" schedule because of curfews. So while your situation is bad, having to return to Houston because of children returning to school. We now know this is a peril of traveling during hurricane season.

kathy, the current (9/16) travel advisory for IKE says that you can rebook at the same rate as long as it is within 14 days (Oct 3rd). If you can't, then you can get back you credit (to be used prior to 1 yr from booking date).

I have noticed lately a number of flights that usually go from
a focus city (PHX, MDW, and BWI) and then goes to a AFB or two.
Today McChord AFB in Tacoma, WA received two 737s on Aug 22nd that
then flew on the Camp Douglas, WI (Volk Field).
.
How does serving the military bases directly differ serving the military
at SWA airports?

Is there a way of getting to a list of tail numbers that have winglets (I following
the addition of winglets to the 300s) and the completion of the Canyon Blue
repainting project (which tail numbers are still carrying the Classic color?), I
saw a couple N77*SW's come in to SMF in the older paint color today. Thanks.

I'm sure that WestJet and Southwest will begin working together in '09 to create scheduling opportunites from points further north as well as add to SWA focus cities that aren't currently served. I can see Westjet adding DEN, BWI and MDW as additional cities they serve to better link up Southwest's lineup (Westjet already serves the following focus cities MCO, PHX, LAS). With regard to the family that attempted to try one of the most gruling travel plan in the Southwest schedule, Trying to fly DTW to SEA as a PHX/1 (which is only offered on Saturday at last check) would be very hard on a large family (9 hours and 5 minutes from first takeoff to last landing). That doesn't excuse the behavior of the children, but if I was a parent I would have pick one of the MDW/1 plans and avoided the PHX/1 plan.

Since I have never used an airline that imposed a miniumum stay requirement, what happens if someone books a plan that does NOT have a miniumum required stay length. Another reason to fly Southwest, since each trip is handled on a one-way basis, NO Miniumum stay requirement needed or charged.

It's great that Dallas has a great partnership between the city, airlines, and the airport. Hopefully there still time to straighten out the differences that you guys have regarding the new planned terminal here in Sacramento and Southwest's role in it. Thank you for the new service to Denver from Sacramento as well.

has earned non-stop service to/from Denver. It was good to see with today's announcement that Sacramento is being rewarded with 2 non-stops flights to/from Denver beginning August 4th.

Southwest's "West Coast" strategy of NOT flying non-stop from Southern California to the Pacific Northwest is a conscious business that is still another reason why Southwest (at least in the first quarter of 2008) is the only profitable airline in this country. If you want the fly non-stop from Southern California to the Pacific Northwest you can use the Seattle-based airline but understand that the route is now highly competive and has lower margins.

I would on Monday the 28th, to call the main number at the Corporate Office at Love Field using the 214 area code not the toll free number and ask to be transferred to the Internship Department and ask number one, did they receive your package that has your cover letter, resume, transcript, letters of recommendation and your "Why Southwest Airlines" essay in it. Most of Southwest's jobs gets more far applicants than openings but hopefully they will fill you in as to where you application package stands when you call them on Monday.

Which is probably why Southwest Airlines and the producers of Airline (correct me if I'm wrong) decided to stop the show since during the last season or two, the show (Airline on A&E) only seemed to focus only mostly on negative customer contacts. Since Southwest Airline's intent for the show was to give a behind-the-scene exposure to the airline in such a way that some one watching the show would want to book a flight the show during its later season was no longer giving the intended exposure to the airline, an mutual agreement to stop the show was reached. Correct?? Brian.

There's another reason to come to Nashville. I watched the Great American Country channel this past Saturday and learned that Carrie Underwood will be inducted as a member of the Grand Old Opry on May 10th. A couple can flight out of Love Field on Thursday the 8th at 6:30 AM on a 1-stop to Nashville and get there at 9:10 AM (on Flight 294) and come back to Dallas on Flights 3678 Nashville to Houston and Flight 16 Houston to Dallas (leaving Nashville at 8:10 AM and getting back to Dallas at 11:25 AM) The Air Fare portion for two people is only $457 including all fees as of Sunday at 11 PM CDT. Something else to think about regarding Nashville.

Earlier in the week, I made a post about whether Southwest's customer backed up their words with their actions (by not traveling during March) if you all look at the March traffic is seems that many of you are NOT backing up your words with your actions. Early May, we will see how you all did in backing up your words with your actions (by voting with your feet and wallet) when we see the April traffic report. For those of you who are saying that this airline should get in front of this and apologize and correct their procedures are simply not paying attention. Some of the corrective procedures include the hiring of third-parties to analyze their changes and this airline has issued mulitple apologies since March 7th. This airline is well aware that they have significant bridge building to get their MX procedures in order. However, Congressional hearings have never been the best place to get to all of the facts, historically. If we want to truly get to bottom of this, other fact finding forums need to be set up.

This morning at roughly 7:45 AM Texas Time, Southwest reported its first "traffic report" since the recent FAA issue came up. With most of March being a period where the media was covering the 737 inspections and so far. We get a first look at how customer voted with their feet and wallet. According to that report Southwest's RPMs for March of 2008 (revenue passenger miles) rose 9.8 percent while Southwest's March 2008 ASMs (available seat miles) rose 5.6 percent. It is plain to see that Southwest's customers have at least for March have forgiven Southwest Airlines for their past maintenance issues and believe that they will continue to correct their procedures to insure that the airline's safety continues to be better. Great Job Southwest. Continue to keep up and improve your high quality service.

On Saturday March 29th, Southwest Flight 2836 which was scheduled to leave its gate at Love Field at 4:20 PM CDT left the runway at 4:30 PM CDT. 9 minutes later at 4:39 PM CDT, the 737-700 aircraft experienced an engine problem (with only one of its two engines), as it approached Denison, TX. Even though a Boeing 737 CAN fly safely on one engine, because the remaining engine does not have a backup it is procedure to turnaround, because it is the SAFE thing to do. However, I hope that Southwest goes ahead and takes the opportunity to do a full inspection before returning this aircraft back to service and any other aircraft that should experience this problem as well. All data provided is available on Flightaware.com. There isn't a reason for Southwest won't be able to reform its maintance procedures and put this behind them.
