After traveling to Los Angeles, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and Orlando, I decided it was time for something a little more adventurous and daring. After hearing of the “East to West Challenge,” two other interns and I decided to take on the challenge. We decided to have breakfast on the East Coast (Washington, D.C.), lunch in the Mid-West (Kansas City, MO), and dinner on the West Coast (San Francisco, CA).
We had breakfast at this great hole-in-the wall called Lincoln’s Waffle Shop. After that, we hopped on some bikes and explored the D.C. area, stopping at the U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and the White House. We made sure to visit the National Archives Building to check out the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.
After returning our bikes, we were on our way to the airport to catch the next flight out to Kansas City, MO. Since we were originally supposed to land in Chicago, we were not sure where to eat. We decided on a delicious bar-b-que spot called Pork & Pickle and grabbed some ribs, brisket and smoked sausage.
Our next stop was San Francisco, CA. Once we landed, we got in an Uber and went straight to our last stop for dinner, Gogi Time, a Do-It-Yourself, All You Can Eat Korean Barbecue restaurant. It was interesting being able to cook your own meat and vegetables right at your table.
This was definitely a trip of a lifetime. I am now able to say I went coast to coast and had a meal at each in just one day. This is one of the trips that I will definitely remember from my amazing summer internship with Southwest Airlines! I cannot wait to see what else this summer has to offer and to learn even more about this amazing company.

An unaccompanied minor is a child ages five through 11 traveling without an accompanying passenger ages 12 or older. Unaccompanied minors will be charged $50 each way in addition to the air fare per child and must travel on nonstop or direct flights. Sports equipment may be checked on Southwest. A kayak, other than a sea kayak, will be acceptable as Checked Baggage but will require a $75 charge each way. Bicycles, depending on size, may either count as one of your two free checked items or if too large will require a $75 charge each way. You will not be able to bring either on board. But, you may check both, either at the gate or while checking in. These also do not count towards your two free bags per customer. One stroller and one car seat are able to be checked, free of charge, per infant.

You may board the plane during Preboarding. Please see the gate agent for a Preboarding pass. Your crutches may be checked at the gate and you will receive them after landing at your destination. Unfortunately, in case of an emergency, you are unable to sit in the emergency exit aisle for extra leg room. In case of an emergency, it is important to have someone that is willing and able, without assistance from the flight crew, to open the doors and assist others off the airplane.

Punta Cana is the only non-U.S. that has a FlyBy Priority Lane for both the ticket counter and security. The only difference between boarding is that you will have to board and deplane using through the use of stairs. Also, in some instances, you may have to travel by bus from the terminal to the plane.

Unfortunately, TSA Pre-Check is a separate entity from Southwest. Traveling in a wheelchair will not automatically grant you TSA Pre-Check but you are eligible for Southwest Preboarding. Please see the gate agent for a Preboarding Document.

If you are flying from a domestic location, a government issued identification or Passport is alright to use. If you are flying from an international location, a Passport is required to enter the United States.

Yes, you can! If you would like to change to an earlier flight, see the Customer Service agent at the Gate desks. They will be able to assist you in changing your flight and inform you of any change fees (if applicable). Although Southwest does not charge for flight change fees, you may have to pay the fare difference between the two flights.

When you check-in to your flight, you will be able to see if your flight has WiFi service available. There are different levels or WiFi for purchase. At Love-Field, you can check yourself in at any one of the "Self-Service Kiosks". Remember, you are able to check-in 24 hours prior to your flight. This will help with receiving a better boarding position. If you plan to check bags, you can also do this at our "Self-Service Kiosks" that print the bag tags. After correctly attaching the bag tags, you will drop your bags at the Customer Service Check-In desks.

When booking your flight, please book by phone and advise the customer service agent of your peanut allergy. There are specific procedures set in place to make the flight enjoyable for everyone, but it is important to inform the customer service agent while booking so they are given enough time in advance to accomodate you.

Arrive to the gate as early as you can and try not to be late! If the stand-by list is longer, they will delete your boarding pass in order clear people off of stand-by. I recommend, the latest you should arrive is 15 minutes before departure.

Unfortunately, EarlyBird Check-In does not promise an A boarding pass. EarlyBird Check-In will automatically check you in to your flight and you will receive a better boarding pass letter than the other customers who have to check-in manually. You may receive A letter boarding but you may also receive B or C letter boarding; it is dependent on how full the flight is.

Carry-on bags are 10 x 16 x 24 inches. Anything larger, must be checked. Flying Southwest, you are allowed TWO FREE checked bags. Checked bags must be under 50 pounds and under 80 inches in size (L + W + H). If it is too big once you get past TSA, you will be asked to check your bag planeside before boarding.

There are three tiers within the Rapid Rewards Tier Program; A-List, A-List Preferred and Companion Pass. A-List status is achieved by flying 25 one-way qualifying flights or earning 35,000 Tier Qualifying Points. You will receive Priority Boarding, earn 25% more points on each flight booked, Standby Priority, Fly By Access and a Dedicated A-List Member Phone Line. A-List Preferred status is achieved by flighy 50 one-way qualifying flights or earning 70,000 Tier Qualifying Points. You will receive everything from A-List status in addition to Free In-Flight WiFi and 100% more points on each flight booked. Companion Pass status is achieved by flying 100 one-way qualifying points or earning 110,00 Tier Qualifying Points. You will receive everything from A-List and A-List Preferred status and a Companion Pass which allows you to select one person to fly with you for one year.
