Dancingdavid....I'm not sure I've ever flown Southwest, but I happened by this blog so I posed this question since it seemed to be a good place to ask.
The mouse house welcomes you always and thanks for the response.
Southwest did do what you were describing until about five years ago whenthey stopped providing peanuts onboard. However they don't have full oversight of everyone's private snacks on board so if a customer brought their own peanut items onto the plane there isn't a control for that.
A mask might help, but the person could also need to eat or drink something, and as @tappingmom1 described it is a difficult situation.
Just general message board practice would be to start a new thread if you have questions as opposed to replying to such an old post which in this case turns out to have a lot of outdated information.
Since it is a Southwest message board I incorrectly assumed you had a question about flying a Southwest flight - this board wouldn't have any information on the other airlines necessarily although I think there is an industry-wide trend to get away from serving peanuts. Maybe try FlyerTalk.
Hopefully visiting the Mouse again in 2025! Always a great time.

I was able to use it for my outbound flight but not for my inbound flight because I ended up changing my travel to leave one day earlier. Because the EBCI is non-refundable, Southwest is unwilling to give me a refund. I have already taken to Twitter to express my displeasure about this and will never again waste my money for this product. I will simply wait ask at the boarding gate when I arrive if there are any more A zone slots available. I would rather pay $50 for that than waste the $25 for EB and get nothing. The closer to 36 hours pre flight time you get, the worse the value of your EBCI. Why - because EBCI positions are allocated based on when they are purchased. If bought within 24 hours of flight time it is worthless. 'As far as EBCI refundability goes, you yourself said "Because the EBCI is non-refundable, Southwest is unwilling to give me a refund." so you seem to understand that it is nonrefundable. You do know what nonrefundable means -- don't you? You may not like it, but that is the rule.

Hello Lindsey: we have a Schnauzer 18 pounds who we need to start taking on our trips to Orlando. But all of the places I read it's so confusing about the dimensions of the carrier. One or two inches can really make a difference. I don't want to get to the airport and find out that I won't be able to take him without the option of placing him with the luggage when I know I can have him under the seat. Please advise. Thanks.

I got a new premeir card in Oct 2016 with $2000 being spent in the first 3 months getting 50,000 bonus points. I had a disputed charge made to my account in October 2017 that put me over the $2000 mark in month 2 (November) that was credited back to my account in November however the points were still awarded in November after the November statement was paid. The net payment gave me a credit balance on the card of $269.99 which was the amount of the disputed charge that was refunded since I paid the balance on the card on the due date in early November. I was trying to qualify for the companion pass in 2017 but since the 50,000 hit my account in 2016 I don't see how I can make it. When I read the terms on qualifying it said that if I hit the $2000 point and had funds credited that would take me back below the $2000 that the rewards points would not be awarded until the balance of the next statement was paid that took me over the $2000 point range. I made the purchases that would take me over the mark in December of 2016 but the December statement did not process until late December so it did not hit the account until 2017. The way that I am reading the terms and conditoins, I think the rewards points should be awarded in Jan of 2017.

I wish I had the options you have. After years of traveling with excellent compassionate service from Southwest Airlines I arrived at the SkyCap and asked for assistance with a wheelchair which I had preordered. I was told that due to abuse of the system there was no longer assistance for handicapped people. I was pointed to stand in the end of the line with only my walker and no where to sit. By the time I made it to the front from there I no longer had time to call a wheelchair. I missed my flight. I was given a boarding pass for a later flight. In order to be allowed to board that 8:55 flight I would have to be at the gate 30 minutes ahead plus two hours for the wheelchair service meaning that I must be to Southwest Airlines by 6:25. They politely parked my wheelchair at the gate almost 2 hours before the flight with no access to bathroom, drink, or food. I cannot move the wheelchair by myself. Are there any planned changes to boarding for the truly disabled? Or must we still be pushed to the back behind those not needing assistance?

We were told today going to Jamaica we didnt have to stand in the line but that we can do curbside check in for international flights if we are flying individuals or groups of 8 or less travelers. Please confirm if this is true.

Hi @Catalina95,
Yes, we are able to accommodate your boyfriend's guide dog. When a Customer has a large service animal, we recommend that you visit with one of our Customer Service Agents at the gate and let them know you require a seat in the front row, where there's a little extra room. They will provide you a preboarding document that will allow you to get on a little early and get comfortably situated.
Looking forward to having you onboard!

I fly about twice a month and love southwest but the one source of aggravation every flight is the pre-board and family boarding....mainly family boarding! I was B1 and at least 25 people boarded after A. One kid and the parents and both sets of grandparents board with them? Ridiculous! Board them to the back or limit it to just the parents. How about have them pay to board with A like I have to? Arrrggg....so frustrating.

As long as you are not saving an Exit row seat, you are usually OK saving a single seat next to you. It is not cool if you save an Exit row seat, as people pay extra for that opportunity. There is an unwritten code of seat saving, and that is a no-no. Besides, if he is 12, he can't sit in that exit row anyways. If you take a row in the back half of the plane and save the middle seat for your kid, people will move on and it is not a problem.

According to TSA's website: "If you are able to stand with your arms above your head five to seven seconds without support, you may undergo screening through advanced imaging technology or the walk-through metal detector if you are able to walk through without support." You can find more about tranveling with disabilities and medical conditions on their website here.

When my daughter was an infant I always traveled with her on my lap. When I was traveling from Guatemala with my 5 month old son that I adopted, he traveled on my lap. Very safe. In December I will be traveling with my grand daughter who will be 7 months old. I made my reservation online and then contacted customer service. They added her to the return trip and also told me to bring a copy of her birth certificate, which they use to verify age.

After traveling to Los Angeles, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and Orlando, I decided it was time for something a little more adventurous and daring. After hearing of the “East to West Challenge,” two other interns and I decided to take on the challenge. We decided to have breakfast on the East Coast (Washington, D.C.), lunch in the Mid-West (Kansas City, MO), and dinner on the West Coast (San Francisco, CA).
We had breakfast at this great hole-in-the wall called Lincoln’s Waffle Shop. After that, we hopped on some bikes and explored the D.C. area, stopping at the U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and the White House. We made sure to visit the National Archives Building to check out the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.
After returning our bikes, we were on our way to the airport to catch the next flight out to Kansas City, MO. Since we were originally supposed to land in Chicago, we were not sure where to eat. We decided on a delicious bar-b-que spot called Pork & Pickle and grabbed some ribs, brisket and smoked sausage.
Our next stop was San Francisco, CA. Once we landed, we got in an Uber and went straight to our last stop for dinner, Gogi Time, a Do-It-Yourself, All You Can Eat Korean Barbecue restaurant. It was interesting being able to cook your own meat and vegetables right at your table.
This was definitely a trip of a lifetime. I am now able to say I went coast to coast and had a meal at each in just one day. This is one of the trips that I will definitely remember from my amazing summer internship with Southwest Airlines! I cannot wait to see what else this summer has to offer and to learn even more about this amazing company.

Actually, you CAN bring a (FAA approved) car seat on board. But there are a few things to keep in mind. 1) It must have "FAA Approved" on it somewhere (usually a sticker; I think mine is on the side). 2) There must be an available seat for your car seat. This means you need to purchase an infant fare (see here: https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/family/baby-on-board-pol.html) which you must call to get. OR there has to be an empty, available seat that is not purchased already. 3) Car seat must go in the window seat. (If you have two, I think you can sit both in one row, so long as they aren't blocking the row in any way. Google the FAA regulation on car seats.) You cannot bring your stroller aboard, but they will gate check it for you (same with your car seat if you'd prefer) and tag it so that it will be waiting for you in the jetway when you arrive at your destination.

Sports equipment may be checked on Southwest. A kayak, other than a sea kayak, will be acceptable as Checked Baggage but will require a $75 charge each way. Bicycles, depending on size, may either count as one of your two free checked items or if too large will require a $75 charge each way. You may board the plane during Preboarding. Please see the gate agent for a Preboarding pass. Your crutches may be checked at the gate and you will receive them after landing at your destination. Unfortunately, in case of an emergency, you are unable to sit in the emergency exit aisle for extra leg room. In case of an emergency, it is important to have someone that is willing and able, without assistance from the flight crew, to open the doors and assist others off the airplane.

Punta Cana is the only non-U.S. that has a FlyBy Priority Lane for both the ticket counter and security. The only difference between boarding is that you will have to board and deplane using through the use of stairs. Also, in some instances, you may have to travel by bus from the terminal to the plane.

At Love-Field, you can check yourself in at any one of the "Self-Service Kiosks". Remember, you are able to check-in 24 hours prior to your flight. This will help with receiving a better boarding position. If you plan to check bags, you can also do this at our "Self-Service Kiosks" that print the bag tags. After correctly attaching the bag tags, you will drop your bags at the Customer Service Check-In desks.

Arrive to the gate as early as you can and try not to be late! If the stand-by list is longer, they will delete your boarding pass in order clear people off of stand-by. I recommend, the latest you should arrive is 15 minutes before departure.
