(in other words, "not before January 2021" is not referencing confirmed schedules, as far as I can tell. But - whatever. Let's not parse words about this, and could be semantics or misunderstanding due to the vague language.)

Right. The schedules were clearly unconfirmed when that statement was made because it didn't happen. Does this really matter now? Thanks.

So, to the point being made about airlines not releasing schedule info until it's confirmed, they said back in 2020, they would resume international service no later than January 2021...so...not exactly the case.

The generic information found on that link is vague and non-specific to destinations with regards to Southwest's plans to resume. Unfortunately, not helpful. I'm also looking for any industry reporting/news.

Just read through all of these and, while I understand the "industry standard" blah blah blah, I don't care. Frankly, Southwest has distinguished itself by NOT being like all the other carriers. As well, I would need to see an ATC/IATA ruling about not allowing these funds to be used at the consumer's direction to buy that as a rationale. The bottom line, in my opinion, is that Southwest should allow the funds to be applied as dollars to another ticket by the purchaser - who, you know, paid for the ticket in the first place - rather than converting those funds to points. My original intent in paying for someone else's ticket (aka, our two daughters traveling as college students) is to buy a ticket, not to buy points. I earn points for buying their tickets on my SWA Rapid Rewards credit card but I'm not really interested in having to use any of my points to recoup my spend for a plane ticket that needs to be canceled. Again, I do appreciate that SWA has a provision to reserve the travel funds for a canceled ticket in my name. That's awesome. I just think it should also apply for a canceled ticket that I clearly purchased for someone else.

OK, now we're well past January 2021. Any news on resumption of international flights for Southwest? Not seeing any current news. I'm specifically looking for Liberia, Costa Rica, and Grand Cayman.

While I appreciate Southwest's policy of holding travel funds for non-refundable cancellations, I'm frustrated by the limitations for later assigning those funds. I often buy tickets for two of our daughters, traveling to/from college, which have resulted in occasional cancellations for a variety of reasons. It's really annoying to pay for their tickets on my SWA Rapid Rewards card and then not be able to access those funds for myself or my spouse later, if our daughters are unable to reschedule for the same general timeframe. Southwest really needs to tweak this policy so that people can assign/direct their travel funds to be used by someone else within the one year timeframe! Why would they not do this?
