Is carrying a hair dryer in your luggage permitted? We plan a trip in August 2017. If I purchase my tickets now;then, something comes up and we are to cancel, is there anyway we get our money back?

At a recent Corporate Culture Committee quarterly meeting, Ann Hancock, Manager Special Events and 30-year Southwest Employee, and Captain Dick East, retired, tell the story of how Southwest Airlines began its association with Ronald McDonald House. As with so many things at Southwest, this now-historic corporate/charity union was the result of an Employee just looking for a way to give back to his community. This was part of what we call a "Rocking Chair" event ... a group of long-time Employees, active and retired, just sitting together and talking about the history of our Company.

As a "retirement" gift to her fellow Employees, and to all the Shareholders and Customers of Southwest, Colleen dreamed of and inspired the creation of a new video about "Relationships." It is her belief that "life is all about relationships" and that they are the principle building blocks of our Culture and of the success of Southwest. In this video, you'll hear Colleen and some of the producers of, and participants in, the video talking about what it was like to plan and make the video.

Anonymous,
OLD! Yes!! Older than dirt :-)
Brian in BNA,
Water balloon volleyball isn't the important part. It's doing something ... anything ... FUN with your co-workers that allows you to get to know them, and understand them, in ways you just can't in the typical work environment. Gook luck!

In a recent video blog, Christi Day told you the history of our 25-minute turns. But in this video, you'll see a 50-second turn (beginning at about 1:21 into the video). This video uses a time-lapse technique that captures 1 frame per second, which makes the resulting video 30 times faster than "real time." It was shot from the roof (deck) of Southwest Airlines Headquarters and begins with a segment at 6:00 a.m. as Dallas Love Field and our Headquarters are waking up. Then, it switches to mid afternoon. Enjoy!

This video tells the story of a Culture visit to our San Diego Provisioning facility. It begins with a visit to San Diego's "Old Town" for dinner. Then a quick trip to the airport, decorating with a touch of Mexico, and serving fajitas, frijoles, and SWAgaritas (Gartorade) to our Provisioning folks.

On Thursday, May 9, our Corporate Culture Committee showed some LUV for our terrific Ground Ops folks at Dallas Love Field. There were burgers, brats, hugs, and lots of SPIRITed conversation all day long. The event had a bit of a circus theme, so you might notice some of the servers wearing funny glasses, hats, and big red noses.

Sam and Gwen will forever be two of our favorites.
I LUV them both -we ALL love them!
They will forever have a special place in my heart!
Here's a little trivia for you! Did you know that our very own
Sam Cohn, retired SWA Captain is an award winning basketball Star
on the Senior World Circuit? Yep... hardly retired! They placed first in the world - the USA team won the gold! Congratulations Sam!
AND...watch those Dr. Key Whitman ads! Sam is their model!
He covered a full page ad in the Dallas Morning News two weeks ago.
Since his Eye surgery to correct vision.... he has yet to miss a shot!
(I am not kidding!)
How do I know all of this?
Flight Attendants talk about all the big news while on the jumpseat
and I saw the ad for myself!!
To all of our special retired friends... we miss you!
You will always be remembered.
LUV,
Your SWA Flight Attendant Friends

In my opinion pat boustead, the most likely airline that Southwest would consider getting together with would be Airtran since their fleet is closest in type to Southwest. USAir has Airbuses and that is something Southwest to this point isn't willing to take on.

I have watched the TV Program (Reruns) of Airline (I too wish that A&E would renew the program... Great material of seeing people act like themselves) and really have a desire to work for this company. After seeing this video, It makes me more than ever want to be a member of this company. Too all the current employees... See you all soon.

I'll never forget Halloween 1998 (or was it 99? 00?) when I worked in the Headquarters Systems Department and we did "The Wizard of SWAz". It was so much fun and everyone was involved in some way or another. All of us were dressed up and, when we weren't doing our bit during "skit time", we were over at Love Field hitching rides on flights. Imagine a Customers face when they saw Dracula, Raggedy Ann, or an Alien on their short hop to Houston Hobby. What fun!
Cheers,

This is one of many reasons why I want to (& will, because I'm determined & not giving up!) work for SWA! 🙂 It's nice to see an airline that does good work for others. I don't know why, but this post reminds me of volunteer work one semester when I was in college. The first semester (I was a transfer student), I did volunteer work once a week at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, which is in a small town half an hour away from where I was attending school. The only times I didn't go were when I had a test coming up & during breaks/holidays. I went on Wednesday afternoons, after morning classes, for three hours; it was rewarding & fun 🙂 & I miss it. 😞 After that semester, though, my schedules weren't were I could continue; plus, I was even busier with school work.
Question to ponder: Why is it called a sandwich when it's not made out of sand? :)
SWA LUV! 🙂

It used to be called the Red River SHOOTOUT, and there was nothing wrong with that. I realize SWA had nothing to do with that name change, but I don't have to like the ongoing political correctness pervading everything these days.
Makes as much sense as changing the name of the Washington Bullets.
*sigh*

Kim,
The incident to which you refer involved a charter airline and the Port of Oakland. Southwest wasn't involved. We do work hard to help our Troops because many of our Coworkers are in their ranks, and we have Coworkers, who were our friends, give the ultimate sacrifice in the name of our country.
