Congrats to past Hero's of the Heart... I was a part of Systems when we won in 1998 (still have my coveted black jacket too). Few can beat Southwest Airlines when it comes to recognizing it's employees. Still miss u guys.

Thumbs up on the inflight internet access! A few thoughts:
- don't require FA's to be all-knowing, techno-geeks
- turn on only above 30,000ft and off before descent
- make it easy to access. easy to find the network. no user id or passwords neeeded
- not only filter Skype but also other bandwidth hogs like massive multiplayer online role-player games (World of Warcraft, SecondLife, etc)
- highly, highly encourage headphones
Thanks so much for keeping the info flowing! :)

I'll never forget Halloween 1998 (or was it 99? 00?) when I worked in the Headquarters Systems Department and we did "The Wizard of SWAz". It was so much fun and everyone was involved in some way or another. All of us were dressed up and, when we weren't doing our bit during "skit time", we were over at Love Field hitching rides on flights. Imagine a Customers face when they saw Dracula, Raggedy Ann, or an Alien on their short hop to Houston Hobby. What fun!

This brings back such good Southwest memories.
I worked at SWA HDQ Systems back in the late 90's and the "cube pranks" were infamous. Once, for a birthday, we wrapped taped over the cube "door" and filled it with packing peanuts. The cleaning folks were real happy with that. Another birthday, we turned everything in a cube either upside down or backwards or both. I think the best was when we switched users keyboards and mice. When one person moved their mouse, it moved on their next door neighbors screen.
Thanks so much for the wonderful memories SWA/WNCO. And I'll be checking my cube closely tomorrow. (-:

Thanks for explaining another behind-the-scenes operation rarely noticed but truly appreciated.
Much LUV.
