My understanding is that flight limitations at ORD are not based on demand. There is more of an issue of operations. The limited gate availability works OK when everyone is on-time but fails with tardiness. Maybe this can subside as the terminal moves toward completion.
100% its the gates/operations - but we'll have the new terminal and concourses by 2034. 🙄

There are limits to how you can book.
Multi-City trips involve only two destinations, not three.
International flights often require a clear departure and return ticket. Southwest may wait until you are at the ticket counter to check when there is uncertainty. One-way'ing the non-international portion may work best.

The company years ago had it out with SEA-TAC over costs and threatened to move to Boeing Field which the Government did not allow. Service was curbed in response. I would have to look-up SEA Tac's current rate to see if they are still expensive. Southwest forgave Denver and then married them. Maybe there is hope for the Puget Sound.

Maybe its because they 100% should fly that route. Why they have not is anyone's quess? New England needs to become better connected to the rest of America.

In Chicago, airlines often buy property for their crew layovers instead of using hotels. Maybe the Hou neighborhood can get some investment.

It took Southwest 50 years to become a true national carrier. It is the only one to do it post regulation and it did it in its own way. Why take that away? The company has money. It's been putting it to use instead of handing it over to investors. While network changes may be required, huge cuts would just give share to other carriers and make it harder to profit as other carriers expand.

So it seems that some of the cities within the former Wright Amendment Boundaries are riding lightweight. Heritage is important but Dallas is near capacity on flights although it can handle more people. Could some of the Dallas thru passengers be rerouted around Dallas and some longer range direct flights be added. Miami, Raleigh, Chicago O'hare, Boston, Ontario, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Columbus, and Louisville amongst others all appear underserved. DFW has been mentioned but its huge. Can Love tighten up?
Note: Minneapolis-Saint Paul seems ideal with some Non-Stop(s)- and some thru service via MCI which is not offered today.

New York, Boston, Atlanta, DC , Atlanta, and Miami to San Francisco, LA, San Diego and Seattle are all huge routes. What if there a same plane 1-stop service across the vast majority of the schedule considering slot restrictions and the use of only 737-700, 737-800, and Max 8? Can that be marketed? All really need a stop to be a profitable route given current prices. For instance, a universally known Lax-MCI-LGA, or a Oak-STL-DCA or a LAX-MDW-BOS or a LAX-DAL-MIA. Maybe crews have to get off for lunch and jump on the next one. Jetblue would have mastered it if they had the N/S with the right plane. Why not create a variant?

Long Beach flights are technically not in direct competition with LAX so 1 LGB-SEA non-stop seems feasible. It may make sense for them to add 1 PDX-LGB non-stop as well.

Would it be cool to see this celebrated by bringing back direct service to Pittsburgh. Price suppression may have shorted the revenue on this route in 2006 but Southwest carried 500 people which is 2 daily round trips in today's operation instead of 6.
